The article you quoted says 211 SANFL games. How many of those were Escort Cup games? Did he reach the magical 200 eligible games? The timing is right, with his entire career played pre-1991. I agree that it seems odd that the AFC haven't mentioned him at all.

The SANFL eligibility rule, as it currently stands, says that the fathers must have played 200+ senior matches (H&A or Finals) prior to (but not including) 1991 - playing for Norwood, Glenelg, Sturt, or South Adelaide. There is no sunset clause, and the 1970 start date was also removed, so all senior matches played prior to 1991 are now included.
Hard to track the old night games. Legs had 1 night premiership he was part of so that would account for a few. I’d have thought those games count as senior games though but who knows. Big result if Crows could snag him F/S as he’s an absolute talent.

Around 17 mins in they speak about crows interest in Jordan Dawson

Night premierships don't count - that's why we had to wait until 2018 for Bryce Gibbs to become an Adelaide Crows player. That's why I asked if his 211 games included Escort Cup games, and if so - how many?

As per my post on the previous page, are Macca19 or GoSarge still around as it seems they prepared a list 15 years ago that had Michelanney on it but not Gibbs:

Hmmm - beyond my sleuthing. All I can see is 211 SANFL games, SANFL life member. 1 x night flag in 77.

The questions I'm asking are not rhetorical. I genuinely don't know the answers... and the answers will determine whether or not Max is eligible under the F/S rule.

No it’s fine I knew they were genuine. I’m trying to find answers but can’t.

Surely the Crows would be across it though

This might help if you've got time on your hands....the history of SA football by John Devaney...

Bloody good read for anyone interested in the history of SA footy

Port heavily into Brayden Maynard. They are a club who set their targets and go hard after them. We do not.

Recruitment
Speculation that Gibbs would be the No. 1 draft pick began early in the 2006 season. Although his father Ross Gibbs had a 253-game career with Glenelg, Bryce was ineligible to be taken by the Adelaide Crows under the father–son rule, much to the Crows' chagrin, because Ross had not yet played 200 of those games before the Crows entered the Australian Football League in 1991.

When Essendon and Carlton met in round 16 of 2006, the sides were firmly entrenched at the bottom of the ladder, with Carlton having lost its last seven games and Essendon a then-club-record fourteen. Speculation that the result would decide the wooden spoon (and hence the first draft pick) led to the game jokingly being dubbed the "Bryce Gibbs Cup" by some in the media.[3] The match ended in a draw.

Carlton ultimately finished last, and subsequently selected Gibbs with the first overall pick in the 2006 AFL draft (held on 25 November 2006). He was given the No. 4 guernsey, formerly worn by club champion and administrator (and later, president), Stephen Kernahan, who was also close friend and former Glenelg teammate of Gibbs' father.[3]

I still get mad reading that

I think if there was a chance Maynard was gettable we'd know about it given father Peter was our runner for a decent stretch and if Peter had played a handful more games for the Bays Brayden would have been an Adelaide F/S.

ugg..we don't want Maynard to lob there - he would be one of their best players at the back instantly. Hopefully they fail in their bid
We were very heavily linked with Brayden in his draft year and it's no secret he was our target with the pick we eventually used on Harrison Wigg.

The 211 games would be including night games. Given he played and was a regular for 13 years i'd say he's probably had 20-25 night games in that lot so would fall to about 185-190 eligible games

... which would make him ineligible.

... hence the lack of PR from the AFC.

Thanks for getting back to us Macca19.

Not sure he would have played 20 -25 but I think he may have stretched the 11 I’ll do some research

I know in the late 80s the night cup was a round robin series that usually had 4 rounds plus the final. If that was the case in the 70s/early 80s then it wouldn't have taken much for him to get to 20+ night games, especially as a first 18 player for over a decade.

But yeah, I'd say if Max was eligible as a F/S then we'd all know about it by now considering he's a draftable talent next year.

It was pretty obvious really after the hullabaloo we made over snaring Borlase with this kid really looking the goods and a better prospect than the former mentioned.

Looking at Brisbane

There first two years were full if pain with identical results to ours.

Year 3 is were they started to see bit if reward and an uplift in results.

My concern moving forward is our lack of quality experience and strong role players in that 24-27 age that gives the rebuild bit of backbone to support young talent coming through.

Brisbane?
Their first 2 years?

They’ve been rebuilding since the last days of Leigh Matthews

Jim has SANFL life membership- so doesn’t that mean he must have played 200 SANFL games? I know I should let this go ha ha
