So we need to improve the list so there is more quality in our top 10 players. That's not achieved by removing them for unders and bringing in late picks/DFA's to replace them.

If we can get into the position of Billings being the 15th best player on our list, we are going to be in a bloody great spot moving forward. What's not good is letting Billings walk, getting an average pick then someone like Dean Kent needing to stay around and being best 22 because it's either him or a kid who is not ready to play.

Like having a slow car so buying a bigger motor but selling the wheels to fund it. The guys we brought in recently in Hill and Crouch would be on more than money and are not an upgrade so it seems a weird thing to get all pissy about their value. It seems like they are getting punished for being disappointing.

I think we need to have a tilt sooner than later, in 2025 our current mature players will be winding up - Ross, Webster, Membrey, Hill, Crouch, Sinclair, Jones, Billings, Marshall, Steele, Wilkie, Howard all pushing 30+

The Herald Sun has an article about Jake, but I can't read it. I gather he's been told he won't get a contract for next year.

The club have done exactly the right thing with their offer. You and Billings seem to overrate his worth.

Butler was shit, Hill was terrible until they gave him a role for a kid and Dunny only had a late surge because he couldn't get a game.

Every time I start to think they are on a logical path they seem to wander off in another direction like a toddler after eating too much sugar.

We can move past Ross and dunstan without a problem, billings is incredibly underrated on here and isn’t the sort of player st Kilda should be moving on.

We have some young players I rate who can cover for Ross and dunstan but not billings as well. Ross and billings cover big distances loosing both would need someone who hasn’t been able to do that to step up or for us to go out and trade someone in.

If billings wants out and the compensation is right we may have shot ourselves in the foot playing hardball. I think Byrnes will get more midfield time and bytel would be an obvious choice, Clark probably moves into billings spot with Connolly getting the utility treatment.

Anyway when we get down to it all three are free agents so maybe in reality they all want out. I doubt Tom Morris has a hotline to the club and managers so he’s probably one jump ahead of bigfooty or just spitballing himself.

Tom Morris worked for us a media consultant prior to Fox Footy for at least a couple of years. I would presume this is a good base for links to the club plus whatever contacts he has built. He's historically been on the money with most things but especially so with St.Kilda news.

I think the way Morris summed up Billings is probably spot on - Saints want him to stay but on their terms. JB, Dunstan and Seb in the same boat here....earnt fat stacks when we were struggling to make up 95% min cap, and now are scoping things out cause they percieve our offers to be "unders"

Inevitable given his injuries...but a shame. Had some great games. I know he got under people's skins, but I liked the mongrel factor he had. The bloke was the only BadAss in the team there for awhile.

Hill was brought into the team because we were desperate for outside run - over paid yes , but one thing good about getting him is he lured Ryder to the club and Ryders contact to Howard helped us secure Howard on both modest contracts compared to some on the list if they say Billings is on 800k a year.

Crouch we pick up as a very good possession midfielder basically just for money and the cost was said to be 600k which is a bargain.
Also last season we had limited draft picks so to come away with Crouch was a very good get and it doesn't matter what anybody says , he improved our midfield - imagine if we never had him this year , we even had to fall bad on Dunstan who they had written off - suppose everyone had written off.

Both are massive upgrades to what we had and improved our squad and both are around 28 in there prime with more than a couple good years left in them.

If we lose Billings so be it , he was the midfielder we wanted in the draft but he turned out to be a half forward / Wing and no earth shattering player who we have been over paying for years - we are now getting the books a justed and bringing realistic contract values into the squad apart from Hannerbery and Hill all the rest have been astute purchases.

Most probably Billings and Ross have been taken back from there drop in salary but in reality they have been weakening our power to get more talented players when they became available.
Dunstan as we know is another story , he and everyone one else had written him off and he was most probably expecting to be leaving this year anyway.

Our squad is 100% better to where we were 3 years ago - with the additions of Hill , Crouch , King , Ryder , Higgins , Bytel , Byrne , Connolly , Sharman , Butler , Howard , Jones , Heath , Allison , Wilkie , Highmore and the improvement of Steele , Sinclair and even McKenzie I couldn't be happier.
