Exactly, the talent is there. The personal is there. Consistent efforts have the ability to bring a lot out of this group. Cannot be underestimated the importance of this off-season for some of our players. Cant complain with the new staffing choices, and our choice to go to the draft and stabilise our group post a tumultuous season after radical lost changes the last couple of years.

This is where we should see true team-wide development, and if we don’t, then we aren’t at the level where we can hope for the ultimate success some day. We just need to reach out and take it. Anything less then a competitive finals series would be a disappointment. I hope those standards are engrained at the club. And we’ll be able to tell if the team has bought in or not. If Steele’s still figuratively alone as the one who stands up when we need it most next year, then write it off. We failed.

Bleak, but I honestly think the ceiling is high enough on this group to expect much more then what 2021 provided. And that’s a great thing.

About the only interesting think that met Rendell said yesterday was that Melbourne's most important addition was Burgess, he got them AFL fit. He said when we got a fitness guy in post Blight it took us 2 years to get the players fit enough. I hope they absolutely smash them this year, we looked the most unfit Saints side in 20 years. Guys look noticeably less muscly than other sides and we look like we're gassed half way through the first quarter.

To all these posters wanting PM’s from George, stavro#4, Stewart66 or any other person that has heard a rumour from the club, surely you guys realise this is like opening a christmas gift days in advance, so you miss out on the surprise on the day?

FMD! I hate surprises, PM me too.
If you aren't a complete tool then we can extend an invite to join the PM club

Wow, people talk about vaxx/non vaxx “apartheid”
You’re doing the same with the “PM club”
😉

Really that's his thing, he plays best as a ruck who will take the clearance himself and adds another tall link up player through the mids. If he could get his tap work 25% better he'd be getting close to an elite ruckman. I think like you said though he might need to learn a new secondary role. I'm not sure he could play mid at that size but some kind of role that utilises his game when he's not rucking would be good. Doing the McEvoy defensive sweeper seems to work for some rucks.

Rucks can take a while.
Look at Gawn, its not like Melbourne drafted an elite AA Ruckman.
He's 29 now and just had his best season. It took him 5 years to get a reasonable amount of the ball and reasonable hitouts.
He probably didn't really stand out until 2018.

Without ever having tried to ruck, ( due to being classed as normal size outside AFL/Basketball circles ) i would think that tapping out is something you can practise and get better at.
Some of the big blokes will never be agile enough for the round the ground work.

Pretty happy that Rowan is not the lumbering type.

I think there's other things happening behind the scenes that are going to shake up the AFL massively.

I think clarko is tassie bound.
AFL if they had any smarts would pull the pin on the Suns and transfer their licence to TAS for 2023. with Clarko as coach.

That's true although some guys just never get it. It's a timing and strategy thing. Some guys never get beyond serviceable. I think Rowan could do what the Tigers got out of Nankervis with serviceable ruck work but an extra clearance player through the mids as well.

GC are doing fantastic for footy up there. Just not on field at the highest level. Footy participation now exceeds tassie and SA combined.

Clarko will be given a mint by the AFL (like Roos to Melbourne) to go to Fold Coast at the end of 2022 if they are still not finals quality.

It would also be a massive play to in an attempt ensure the likes of Rowell, Anderson, King, Rankine & Lukosius stay put

Shouldn't have commented. No wonder I don't go into these threads

That's it champ, go full drama queen. You too busy grooming men via PM to get on the threads at the moment?

Wonder if Ben Ronke is worth looking at as a replacement for Lonie. Had a really impressive debut season then had a bad run with injuries. Since recovering swans have a had a heap of quality smalls come on.

He'd be a low cost option in terms of picks and cap space.

Ah yes if it isn't the waddling w***er back at it once again. Took a few days to work up the courage to address me directly did it, big shot?

Maybe as a rookie. can't see him getting too much first team action.
