We have only started our full on rebuild three years ago when Lethlean arrived. Carlton should start to move up soon. Their list just needs time now, they have most of the pieces in place.
They don't have a midfield though. Walsh and then who. Cripps unfortunately isn't the player he used to be and Dow is a bust to many Blues fans.

Quite the opposite. it is absolutely no distraction to this year as it wont happen, which means we are concentrating on the draft, with somehow adding an extra top 15 dp, getting two quality junior mids and hopefully getting the two NGA's.

If anything it focusses our strategy for the next three years.

So what happens if we don't get B.King? We have two extra FRDP's (2022 and 2023) a lot of freed up cap space and a whole lot of other options. Free Agency n another missing piece and more quality kids? Or trades for more experience etc.

I think the strategy is sound. After two years where we brought in 8 immediate first 22 players (if I include Highmore) and got some real bonus youth quality in Byrnes, Connelly, and Sharman player excellent roles, I like the 'hit the draft' strategy.

I reckon this strategy was put together in 2018, probably tweaked after we missed King, and now we are going to at least execute the plan and hopefully reap the benefits of the youth coming in.

I don't want to have to wait another 10 years while we chase a feel good story over a premiership.

They have Cripps, Cerra will get there, they have Brodie Kemp who is a bit of a Bytel type injury bargain and Dow started to show that he's not a spud this year. If they can get some run out of Williams they might finally come good with some decent coaching and games into youth. The pieces look good on paper but they have to overcome the mental stuff.

Cripps is on the decline. Cerra's a good player. Never heard of Kemp. Carlton supporters I know were saying Dow is still a bust. Williams good. But they just sacked a coach, I don't think they are as good as you might give them credit for.

Spot on. I’d be more comfortable with Leo Connolly with ball in hand late in a big final than Luke Dunstan.

Back the kids in, we’ve got enough peak age talent to support them.

Its proof that our draftees don't need to be babied. Bytel's played just a few less games than those premiership players for the Dees. Clark has 60 games. Sharman has about 5 games. They're all ready to go. No reason they couldn't be in our best 22

According to Edmund he still thinks Ross will sign after how confident Ratten was in his last interview.

He did say he thought it would have been done by now though but hasn't heard of any clubs chasing his signature.

Unless he and his management are keeping a secret it doesn't seem likely he will leave.

this is probably the weirdest thing, this whole year.

i really rate Fisher

If fit enough Bytel, Connelly, Byrnes, Sharman would definitely be in my starting 22 for rnd 1.

I would also be opening an opportunity to Allison and Heath for a mid season debut, as well as any of our pick through this Draft.

We would like Ben King.. so what. Healy making a story out of nothing.

The first 3 will have to show improvement if they are going to be best 22 every week when we are fully fit.

If Sharman's form continues he's there.

I'll be surprised if either of Heath or Allison play next year.

Heath will be 2-4 years away given he's a ruck. he might get a game here or there though.

Allison i think could play sooner. i think he needs a big pre-season and some VFL form though. it could take him half a year to get that.

It's odd. I'm guessing they are just leaving the feelers out in case anyone comes knocking?

Either that or he's just trying to get the contract up a little.

lethers was very confident. then the baby stuff happened and since then dead quiet.

i'm wondering if he's going but hasn't been honest.

or he's got a conditional offer, based on some other stuff happening at other clubs.

Luke Jackson, James Jordon, Jake Bowey, Kozzy Pickett. All first or second year players who played the entire finals run and most of the year. Melbourne weren’t concerned about playing old farts like Jones there. They played the kids and won the flag. No reason our kids can’t just be good.

They did but they also had depth and no real injuries to get them either. Helps that they had a pile of high end picked kids too.

Some Clubs can afford the luxury of a first round pick not playing for 2 seasons. We are not one of those clubs..

I really liked his career. Should have been Norm Smith the one year ( can’t remember which of the three 😳) IMO.
Has he got anything left in the tank though?

No he's shot.

From memory Freo took it to the media through Peter Bell. He came out talking a massive game.

We offered our first pick and he laughed it off so we went to GWS and split it then traded with Port Adelaide before going back to Freo.

It was honestly one of the great trade periods. We went armed with a decent first and through splitting it, trading with port and then adding some fringe/old players like Acres, Bruce and Stuv we walked away with Hill, Howard, Ryder, Jones, Butler and Byrnes was picked up with one of the picks we got for Bruce

That trade period got me hooked. The season that followed it went alright as well 😉 ❤️🤍🖤

100%.
Think of the players we missed from the compromised drafts when we were near the bottom of the ladder. Nope. No sympathy. Sorry.

We don't deserve sympathy for that, we traded down picks in that era as well.

We had pick 12 and 13 (Goddard compo) in the draft in 2012. Swapped 12 for Tom Lee and 24 (Nath Wright), 45 (Josh Saunders).
Not done yet traded 13, 36, 55 for Tom Hickey and 25 (Spencer White) and 46 (traded for Trent Dennis-Lane).

Then did the same with Milera and Saad as well. Pelican started the trout era off with a bang by diluting picks in an era that the franchise clubs had already decimated.
