There's a guy by the name of Sam Walsh that goes alright

Andrew McGrath, Whitfield, Delidio...even Cooney jagged a Brownlow before his knee went. There have been some pretty good ones recently but equally some terrible ones.

the way i view the ladhams situation is its like your neighbor has this quad bike he uses every now and then. you've also got quad bikes, you fave one is better but its got a few issues. so you're wondering if you should get a cheapie as a back up. you've seen the neighbours one just sit there pretty much unused and wonder if you can get it on the cheap and use it when ya old one packs it in. or when ya wanna beat it up on some rough tracks. so you bring up your issues with your quad bike in passing to the neighbour, see if he's interested in selling it.

meanwhile the neighbours wife wants to buy a new car, they're cash strapped so she's like why don't you sell it to the neighbour, so i can go get a new car.

the only problem is because the neighbour is cash strapped he needs a pretty damn high price for the quad bike. so when they tell you the asking price, you're just like meh! why in the fu** would anyone pay that much money for a shitty old quad bike just sitting there unused...

anways you know if you wait long enough, they'll sell other sh*t, buy the new car, he'll get sick of the quad bike and you'll end up buying it for even cheaper as it depreciates more. that or you'll flog it when they're asleep and blame it on the other neighbour he hates.... the crows supporter...

TL;DR; we are getting Ladhams for "free"... port will be pissed when they find out... but we'll blame it on adelaide.
See now I just want a quad bike.

Yeah he’s obviously the best chance to be undisputed since Roo, but it’s way too early to call that one.

According to an article from 2-3 years back that I read recently “several clubs” rated Max the best player in that draft, and we started to see why late in the season. He looks the best chance to give Sam a run for his money.

Was that Naughtons year too? It was good draft. Bailey Smith had an ordinary year but is a gun as well.

No, Naughton was the year before. 2018 was the “superdraft” and I dare say Max would have gone pick 1 had he not done his knee.

Had 15 shots for goal in his only TAC Cup game that year!

It doesn't matter how many times others say we're better off with him delisted, we will need to find midfield cover. We are relying on hope not planning at the moment.
Just because you don’t like the plan doesn’t mean there isn’t one.

To have kept Luke we almost certainly would have to have offered him at least a two year deal, and on decent money, and that’s just too much for someone we believe is just going to be here for depth purposes.

Steele
Gresham
Jones
Crouch
Ross?
Clark
Bytel
Byrnes
Hannebery*?

Is enough immediate midfield depth and hopefully we’ll add more from the draft.

I heard someone saying how Geelong and St Kilda had set up those late noughties teams were built in a couple of drafts. Hawks got Mitchell and Hodge in draft and then over a couple of more found Buddy Roughy etc. Hopefully we do a bit of that against the flow.
It takes at least 4 good drafts to build a team (98 Hayes, baker and Schwarze, 99 Blake, 00 Roo and Kozi, 01 Ball, Dal Santo, Goose, Clarke, Montagna, 02 Goddard as a gift and lastly 03 we picked up Raph Clarke and Fisher)

Those 6 drafts at least had players who were in finals for us.

Using our current side (11 Ross and Webster, 13 Billings, 14 McKenzie, Lonie and Sincs via rookie draft, 15 Gresham, 16 Long, Battle and Marshall via rookie draft, 17 Coffield, Clark, Paton, 18 King, Bytel (plus hind who we traded) and Wilkie via rookie draft, 19 Byrnes and Connolly, 20 McLoed (who was yet to play) Highmore, plus Sharman as a mid year pickup.

17-20 could be key drafts for us if they develop well.

The list is still a work in process but it is shaping up.

Probably too early to say on McGrath's draft - Taranto and McLuggage might both already be ahead. Plus some others might come hard over the next few years - Darcy, Simpkin, Bolton

Franklin was in Delidio's draft so he isn't the best from that one. Whitfled would be competing again Macrae or Grundy.

I do think Sam is the best from that draft but just saying that Bytel was rated as highly as him based on that youtube doco I shared. If he can even poll half as many brownlow votes next year as Walsh did this time we'll be laughing our way to the bank

No Naughton was 2017
2018 will be one of the greatest drafts we've seen.
People are very harsh on Bailey Smith. He was a gun during finals. He's 20 years old
Also have to remember his role would have been partially taken with Treloar coming in this year and Dunkley sticking around.
Will only get better next year

Wines is also from the Whitfield draft.
I dare say Mundy has overtaken Cooney.

Fair call. Wines is obviously coming with a serious bullet tho.
If he could back it up, he could overtake them all because while Macrae and Whitfield are very consistent, they dont seem to have the overall accolades.

If Grundy can get back to the form that got him that huge deals, he would be the obvious 1 for me.

I’m pretty sure they have a plan - and his name is Bytel.

Let’s not forget the big possibility of Clark getting in on the midfield action and also Gresh returning.

How funny will it be if Norf do take Horne-Francis at 1 and Daicos is still on the board at 2, where Collingwood’s first pick would be, if they hadn’t offloaded it cheaply last year!?

If that happens they could have had two of the best 3/4 in the draft.

Might be the biggest draft blunder since we took a fat kid with diabetes at 1 ahead of the consensus no.1 pick in Petracca.

He can if a club is already losing a FA such as Adelaide, Sydney and Richmond it seems.
Some of those clubs may be waiting to see if they receive anything or what value it is before they are happy to sign him.
Best case scenario is that someone like Richmond want him to come in but dont want to lose Chol compensation.
Problem is we would need Chol compo to be an end of 2nd rounder (or better) for them to want to deal with us otherwise they would be better off losing their compo given how many early picks they have.
If it was an end of 2nd then we may be able to sneak 48 or 53 from them but dont see either of those happening.
Article on Fox Sports AFL on Richmond's plans for above

Him having now re-signed makes this the time that could actually get done. Prior to having re-signed he could have gotten there through free agency. Won’t happen though obviously.

Every year teams say they’re open to offers for pick 1. But it almost never gets traded because it would take an outrageously good offer to get it done.

That is an intriguing suggestion.

Matt Rendell's List Management Assessment of St.Kilda:
  • Blew it this year, after having a really poor preseason
  • Too much time spent on tactics, not enough on getting fit
  • Weren't fit enough to continue the same game style as 2020
  • Big loss was Gresham and Paton, Clark out hurt
  • Midfield is first class
  • Hill needs to lift, McKenzie had a really good year
  • Reckons West Coast were the same, lacking fitness
  • Balance of the list is generally pretty good
  • Only structural issue is the backline - heavy reliance on Dougal
  • Wilkie and Highmore did a super job, but really need a key back
  • We looked better with Jones fit and healthy - named the barometer
  • Reckons we should be going after Talia as a DFA for two years until you can get someone in
  • We should climb right back up the ladder - quite bullish on us tbh
SOS chimes in:
  • Our pressure dropped off, named Butler but wasn't the only one
  • Need to get more out of Clark and Coffield as high picks
  • A bit disjointed at times because of availability
  • Just as bullish on our hopes for next season

Really bullish being the 15th team he's named to make the 8 next year. Onwards and upwards!

In fairness, Rendell may be clueless on a lot of topics but he does seem to have a good understanding of our list that most in the media don't have. Hard to argue with many of the points he made about our list and needs.

My god made a bit of sense there. Not sure about midfield first class, need a bit of work before they are Melbourne or Bulldog good but over all not a bad assessment

Here is some goss and don't @ me just got PM'ed this:

Battle and a fourth rounder to Brisbane for pick 14 with a swap of future picks. Don't know all the details but thats what I was told. Is it true? Well it is the silly season, but take it for what it is.

losing Battle for a reasonable pick is a win
