Why are we retaining ROC? He doesn't seem to have done anything of note sofar.
Managed to get selected a couple of times.

We needed to see if he could be an AFL player before making a call on whether to recontract.Managed to get selected a couple of times.
Low bar, especially given our form in the last 2 yearsManaged to get selected a couple of times.

Yeah I think he stays on our list next year. Probably in rookie list form, but it'd be nice to see him get one more year of development and see how he growsI think O’Connor has some nice tools and potential to play a shutdown role at AFL level. Has a rare combination of height (he’s around 192), speed (he’s quicker than all of our current starting mids and from memory has a sub 3 second 20m sprint which is very rare for an inside mid of his physical stature) and a love of tackling (among the league leaders in this category in the SANFL). Just needs to work on his offensive / outside game and I think he’s AFL list-worthy. The perfect type to stash on the rookie list for another 1-2 years to see if his game can evolve IMO.

What the bit where his shoulder continually popped out? Good player, but liability imo.Say what?, exactly how much of Mitch Hinge's play have you actually watched?
A liability? What the bit where his shoulder continually popped out? Good player, but liability imo.
Still a far better prospect than Lienert... after shoulder surgery. What the bit where his shoulder continually popped out? Good player, but liability imo.
Not just Butts & Strachan - Butts, Strachan & Keays would all potentially need to be upgraded in 12 months time.We don’t no, but if we don’t, it would mean that we would need to upgrade BOTH Butts and Strachan in 12 months time, which likely eats up a draft pick inside 80, in a draft with more exposed form.
Butts has clearly established himself as a long term player at the club, so with a low number of viable draft picks available to us in 2021 and an uncontracted O’Connor, it makes sense to upgrade Butts now, and essentially give his Rookie spot to ROC IMO. That way only 1 upgrade is required in 2022 (Strachan), but we have the same players on our senior and rookie lists combined.
He signed for 2 years, less than a month ago. He's not going anywhere next year.I think if the Big Red can't get a foothold in the side at some point next season he'll be off the list.
But it's a fair point you raise
Hope so for his sake. Don't need another player's career cut short by shoulders always popping out.Still a far better prospect than Lienert... after shoulder surgery.
I think Lienert is a solid enough player, but we have younger players with more upside... so he isn't really a good match for us.Hope so for his sake. Don't need another player's career cut short by shoulders always popping out.
I am a bit biased to Lienert as I taught him a while ago now.
Has any junior developing player ever been dumped from an AFL main list to the rookie list after their initial 2 year contract to then subsequently bounce back and become an established AFL player?I think O’Connor has some nice tools and potential to play a shutdown role at AFL level. How many Adelaide draftees played no football in their 1st year on an AFL list due to Covid and then got dumped?Has any junior developing player ever been dumped from an AFL main list to the rookie list after their initial 2 year contract to then subsequently bounce back and become an established AFL player?
On the balance of probabilities I think we should roll the dice on someone new as rookie(s) - for both Davis and O’Connor. Better to find another Butts, Laird, Keays, ROC, Rutten, Mattner, Bock etc than being kind to another Nick Joyce, even if the greater likelihood is another Keenan Ramsay.
He was a rookie not an National draftee wasn't he?Just Ayce Taylor I believe
Desperately unlucky. Never got to play a game in AFC colours, at any level.Just Ayce Taylor I believe
Nothing but a gut feel, but reading those tea leaves I get the feeling this draft ain’t too popular after about 30-40. Might buy those 2 boys an extra year I think.Has any junior developing player ever been dumped from an AFL main list to the rookie list after their initial 2 year contract to then subsequently bounce back and become an established AFL player?

He was selected in the SSP, but he was on our rookie list. Not even that, SSP
Scorpus
Spud or not?
Have to seek your approval or not before I give my opinion?
A trade away from West Coast didn’t eventuate for Jarrod Brander. But he still hopes to land at another AFL club after being delisted. See every list change here.
West Coast utility Jarrod Brander will hope he can resurrect his AFL career in the draft, or as a delisted free agent, after he was cut by the Eagles on Monday.
Brander, 22, played 11 games this season and was linked to a potential move during the recent trade period but the Eagles confirmed they parted ways with the former Victorian draftee after four seasons.
“Following discussions with his management the club has delisted Jarrod, who is keen to explore other opportunities,” Recruiting and List Manager Rohan O’Brien said.
“We thank Jarrod for his contribution to the club over the past four years and wish him all the best for the future.”

Actually I also quite liked him at U18's level as a Centre Half Back where he played a similar attacking style to Nathan Bock for the Bendigo Pioneers/Allies, played both ends to quite a high level and lacks nothing athletically but it's hard to see the wing being his best spot, maybe they thought they could change him into a Charlie Ballard type?
Didn't West Coast play him out of position at AFL level on the wing? Seemed a bit odd for a 195cm guy. Surely a club down on forward stocks should look at him like Collingwood

Either way surely he now goes to the head of the class with this year's DFA's, surely he'll be snapped up quickly.
Most games i watched this season he was playing as a tall half back flanker. I didn't think he was that bad, but appears a little soft at the contest at times.
