Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

I am saying that it is untrue that he isn’t a worthy first rounder. Not saying he’s a lock for top 5.
This whole thing started ambiguously, but you definitely weren't just saying he should be a first-rounder. You've moved the goalposts.

A year or so back Sinn was projected as potential top 3. I’m gonna go with the guys that have jobs to gauge this stuff rather than personal opinions of him being ‘overrated’.
The kid obviously has talent and one big reason for Callaghan shining was that Sinn got injured.
This was your first comment in the chain, not replying to anything in particular but addressing the general discussion surrounding Sinn being a viable option for our pick. While not directly stated, you clearly inferred he should be an option with our pick, not simply him being in the first round. No one here, even when "underrating" Sinn, had him past the lions at 16. Furthermore, the same experts that had him rated highly currently rate him at around the same level as this board. If anything, you are overrating hi based on highlights.

Hugh Goddard was rated as the Number One Pick the year before his draft then end up going in the late teens just due to his underage performances, was delisted after ten games in 3 years.

Sinn wouldn't be in the discussion for the first round or even second round if it was based on this year's performances
This response, which prompted you to realign the argument around its points, came as a response to the idea that a player can be selected of bottom-age form. theiaofseed was not suggesting he would be taken in the second round, simply that players can stall in development, slip due to injuries or simply move back by standing still and having others surpass them. The point they were making was that a player can be over-projected based on small data sets or be subject to injuries that present an increased risk of the player's potential not being fulfilled.

In all fairness, Sinn definitely goes in the early-mid second round based on this year's form by way of his frame, athletics, and consistent accumulation alone, but that was a lesser argument in the overall point. He still isn't in my top3 options at our pick and we will have one of Ward, Hobbs, and Erasmus unless we end up with Callaghan. Those four should be locked into our minds, they present an opportunity to get consistency and reliable production out of a draft that sorely lacks both.

Not sure I moved the goalposts at all, that’s an assumption you have made and possibly due to a miscommunication on my side.

I’ve said multiple times in this thread that I want Ward at 5 then to somehow get pick 13 and use it on Sinn.
Sinn at our pick would be a major risk at our first pick, one I wouldn’t be that against if I’m being honest. I still rate him.
People consistently throw out the ‘you’ve only seen his highlights’ argument which is just not true (with all situations at least).

Anyway, don’t really feel like cramming up this thread with an argument that is pretty dumb 🤙

Hobbs doesn't have the imposing size or explosive power of Oliver. Oliver can also take a hanger, though I think Hobbs seems to be strong overhead for his size.

Did he do any testing? I'd love to know his sprint and agility times.

I'm not hating - genuine opinion on Hobbs.

FWIW - Knightmare's summary is pretty much what I see in the highlights.
I wouldn’t be too quick to align with Knightmare.

Would hate to hear your thoughts on JHF then?

Let me guess...

Hobbs reeks of Richmond for mine.
If Callaghan is gone Rachele is still my pick but I wouldn’t be disappointed if they pull the trigger on Sinn
Chesser, Soinse, Roberts would all be a great get at 21.
Alleer and Bazzo should be considered if available at 24 IMO as well.

Not enough love for Rachele at our 1st pick.

I really don't see Hobbs as slow . If we are doing comparisons he reminds me of Travis boak.

Most players improve their times in their draft year but this was his only March of last year

20m 3.16
Agility 8.15

That agility time puts him in the top 10 of this years crop for the National combine and an 83 running vertical jump puts him just outside the top 10. His lack of athleticism is massively exaggerated.

Josh Ward in comparison

20m 3.12
Agility 8.57
RVJ 69

Smart, works hard and runs hard, loves a tackle and uses the ball very well by foot.
Would be a nice pick-up. Which pick is he likely to be taken?

Projected early second round. Right around the mark where we have 2 selections.

Wouldn't be surprised if he went a little earlier to be honest. Has enough attributes and could be a surprise reach on the night.

Cheers, wasn't expecting he'd compare favourably to Ward there.

How far is Matthew Johnson behind Hobbs, Ward, Callaghan etc. Every time I looked at results etc he was always BOG. He’s a good size, seems a good user of the footy, gets plenty of it, what is it that puts him a rung behind the others. He just seems a great fit for us.
I haven’t had a chance to watch any underage footy, just curious.

“he averaged 34.3 disposals from his last three matches. His final game, against Murray Bushrangers, saw him win 37 disposals, 22 contested possessions and 11 clearances in a standout display.”

That’s a fair day out.

That’s some pretty poor results for Ward who’s not an inside bull like Hobbs. I don’t quite get why ward is so highly rated - yes he’s smart and has a big tank etc but 181cm guys without elite athleticism or elite contested ability is a red flag to me on ability to play mid at afl level. Reckon Ward is overrated in here and is more likely 10/15 then top 5.

He is probably not far behind at all . I just see no point recruiting a WA kid when there is potentially 2 Vic kids the club rates in the same group .
