There's already a very good chance Draper is available in any case as he's rated behind Motlop by most but I take your point. It'll be interesting who's available and who we take at that pick or even if we use it. Motlop seems a good chance and a logical chance as it's right in his predicted zone, he's local, a NGA of ours, and is a list need.
Clearly we have different opinions regarding Motlop in almost every level.

With Schultz, Switkowski, Colyer and Walters, small forward is a long way from being a need. That group of four still leaves out other smaller players who would in some sense compete for that spot in the 22 such as Crowden and Henry.

Being part of our NGA is nice in as much as we have the best intel on him, but at pick 21 it provides no other advantages and no reason to prefer him. We should purely be selecting him based on how he is rated.

In contrast, players such as Draper and Butler compete with the likes of Sturt and Banfield (perhaps Frederick and Henry) as medium tall options. None of those players are convincing in that position at this stage, with Frederick and Henry looking like they have been played there primarily for development purposes.

Motlop looks like a nice player to me but I'm not convinced by phantom drafts which cluster him around our pick (a pick we are likely to live trade). I will also be interested to see how accurate Twomey is. My thinking is that this is going to be one of the least predictable drafts in recent times.

I think it’s an issue, Schultz can’t kick or hit the scoreboard, Swit is always injured, Colyer is average at his best and Walters washed up

Knightmares phantom has been released. He's taken Amiss, Johnson, Warner and Greg Clarke for us. Roberts was still available at our last pick so I'd take him before Clarke but also Cripps, Schlensog, Serong. Otherwise I don't mind it.
Four picks and no Benning bid means a rookie selection which these guys, bar maybe Serong will still be available for.

Really don't see the wisdom of bringing in Clark when we'd already brought in Brodie and Johnson though.

I think 2 mids early is too risky that all the good tall forwards are gone by 21.
I agree. It is partly why I lean towards the likes of Draper, Butler, Goater who have potential to play forward/midfield as opposed to Hobbs who is a midfield specialist. But Amiss seems the only KPF contender for 8 or 10.

In a balanced forward line we are talking about 1 position, perhaps 2. Both Schultz and Henry have recently been extended haven't they? Colyer a high performer in the Doig. Walters needs the coach to clarify that he is now purely in contention for a forward role or the wafl.

I'm also expecting that improved forward line coaching will also improve the scoring of our fleet of small forwards. They are often being asked to perform at the feet of a depleted tall/medium forward structure.

There's simply no urgency to draft a small forward at pick 21, and there are reasonable options later.

I was the kid up at 4am opening Christmas presents so I just want it all to be done & dusted tbh.
But did you sit around with your siblings for weeks before Christmas speculating on what you would get? "I don't want Scrabble, Monopoly is much better". "If I get a Barbie I will be absolutely spewing". "I want a new iPhone just in case Spider McGurck gets one".

If so, did it impact on what you eventually got?

Under this scenario if they both go before our 2nd pick, who do you have still being available as a result (so I can answer) ahaha
If they're both gone I would expect one or both of Gibcus or Andrew would be available, and I think they might attract a live trade approach.

In addition, Wanganeen-Millera and/or Rachele could be excellent options.

Oh is it a different/better coverage on Kayo? I could start a Kayo free trial if required, but that's a hassle.

I think Fox/Kayo coverage would be better now. I remember being excited to watch the draft a years ago went around to a friend's house to watch.

It was the worst thing ever. There was a number of retired players which didn't know anything about the players barring the top few. Once they were gone they went to pre-recorded clips on when they were drafted ignoring the rest of the draft.

It was so frustrating, like we know when you were drafted 15 years ago, who cares we are interested in these new kids getting drafted.

But I'm sure they understand the interest in the Draft and put on knowledgeable commentators. But I don't think it would be much better than that streamed by AFL.com

I agree it’s not my preferred pick but I think it’s the weakest spot on the list

I was just happy with getting a lump of coal.

Curse you Spider McGurck, always getting better Christmas presents than me!!!

Your first line is spot on.

Motlop seems to have a touch more class and quality in comparison to the current small forwards that we have, all except Walters who is coming to the twilight of his career so will need replacing. A classy small forward is definitely a need.

Totally agree with the bolded bit. That should always be the case and think that it is.

I'd always take a local product that we know about than other interstate players that we know less about and are equally rated e.g. Draper
