Would a Richmond Premiership in 2022 make the team one of the best of all time?

Ah, the old Minor Premiership winners.

Like Adelaide in 2017, Geelong in 2019 and Port Adelaide in 2020.

Some extremely powerful sides amongst that lot 😮😮😮

Little bit tough for them to win flags when the 2017-20 Tigers were bagging the vast majority.

You're digging yourself further and further. 2008 hawks, half of them were gone by the time their 3 peat came around. Whereas richmond had something like 19 players from 2018 play in 2019/2020 GF. Give it up seriously.

Bloody hell, don’t ask him to give up AT. This is magnificent. Vintage classic Fadge anti-Richmond salt. He is the best source on the net 🤣

Go easy on the pies fans tigers. They are still trying to wrap their head around the fact the tigers have won more flags in the last 5 years than they have in the last 60.
Poor bastards.

OK.

On that basis, those 2019-21 Demons really were something else, weren't they?

(On the basis their 2019 squad was pretty much identical to their 2021 premiership team)

😮😮😮😮

According to the logic in this thread, Collingwood 2010 didn’t dominate the finals but Richmond 2020 did

But SuperSub, must I remind you, Collingwood did not even win the 2010 Grand Final. They required a second chance to get over some 15 win season, zero Premiership opponent, whilst playing on Collingwood’s home ground with the weak GF opponent on foreign soil. That is not exactly dominating my good friend. 😁

You don’t think Richmond actually losing a final then disqualifies them based on the same criteria?

We could also look at Adelaide playing on “foreign soil” in 2017 despite finishing higher on the ladder if we like. I’m not sure how many premierships the opponent has won plays too much of a part, but whatever helps you skew the argument I suppose…

Man, you don't get it Melbourne didn't win a flag prior to 2021, we did in 2017 and after 2018 (2019/2020) with the majority of our list.

Didn't Richmond get bounced by a 15 win no-flag team?

Pies of 2011 are one of the best teams ever to not win the flag imo. Should’ve walked away with two, if not three, from that era.

Why should they? they were beaten by a better team on the day. I can say the same we dominated the 2018 home and away season and finished on top by 2 games and if not for a mason cox show we could have nailed 4 premierships in a row, so the bottom line is no excuses you get beaten you ain't the best side in finals/GF. I must say you're disrespecting the cats they won the 2011 GF by 6 goals+

And beat the Pies three times in 2011

Cats were fantastic. Is it a disrespect to the Hawks if I say I felt the Cats were a better team in ‘08? I really rated that Pies team and I think some poor coaching + injuries at the wrong time ultimately cost them.

I wouldn’t argue against Richmond being the best side in 2018 either.

Well if losing a game does not stop you winning a Premiership, how much do YOU think it matters?

And yes, Adelaide were on foreign soil in the GF 2017 like St Kilda in 2010. The not insubstantial difference of course is, Richmond beat Adelaide by 8 goals in the Grand Final. Collingwood did not beat St Kilda in the Grand Final.

Of course Mulliganwood were a good and deserving Premier in 2010. I don’t think anyone here is questioning that. We are just pointing out this does not lift them above a triple premier who dominated their 3 Grand Finals and over-ran every GF opponent to the tune of 29.22 v 8.9 in the second halves of those respective Grand Finals.

Richmond weren’t the best side in 2018, they were merely the team that won the most home and away matches.

Same for Cats in 2008.

On both occasions the team that was best across the finals series won the Premiership. Just like almost every year. You will find the correlation between minor premiers and Premiers is nowhere near as strong. And given all teams know decades in advance the title goes to the winner of the Grand Final and not necessarily the minor premier, don’t you think you might be looking in the wrong place for evidence of who is the best team each season?

Not at all, but let’s not pretend Richmond dominated 2020 like you claimed then.

Well no, it doesn’t. I might argue that their best was slightly better (going 32-2 @174% over a period of 18 months, with both losses being by 3 points might demonstrate that), but ultimately Richmond timed their runs better and sustained their dominance for longer. So well done to them.
