Scenario 1: Future 2nd & Best 22 Player for Rankine.
Scenario 2: Future 1st for Rankine & Pick in 30's.
Scenario 3: Pick 5 & Future 1st for Rankine, Pick 7 & Pick in 30's.

I think Gold Coast would want a KPP in the Draft (Busslinger or Cadman) and/or Future picks. I expect they'll trade their picks 2nd Round and below for Future picks and/or for Brisbane's 1st Rounder. I think they'd also happily take experienced players that would improve their best 22.

Crows clearly want Rankine. They should be equally desperate for top end midfield potential, particularly big bodied midfield potential. Either their own pick 5 or Gold Coast's pick 7 in this years draft probably gives them a chance to tick this box.

It would be disappointing if we didn't land Rankine and also didn't have a top 10 pick in this years draft (unless we somehow get JHF).

Scenario 2 or 3 look quite possible. I like number 1 but struggle to identify a suitable player

I get what you're saying but guys like McCluggage and Brayshaw were pretty good contributors even in their first season.

Rankine was not good until this year

But he did show moments of brilliance - just no consistency or volume

Given GC have been building from a n extremely low base when he was drafted it is not surprising that it has taken some time

Look at Rozee - people started to say he want going to make a top liner and he is on the verge of being an A grader

On the verge? Credit where credit is due, Rozee is already an A grader. Will be a top shelf mid for years to comes while we get the pleasure of watching Jones and McHenry who between them probably don’t even know what a Sherrin looks like.

Just curious aside from the AFL, do we need to disclose the actual salary for Rankine to the Suns?

I mean it could be literally a lot lower than what has been reported and I do know that one of the reasons he wants to leave is to be closer to family.

It wouldnt surprise me if our offer is in the same ball park as the Suns.

No, on the verge is correct. He was pretty mediocre earlier this year, and needs a full year like his last couple of months before he's an A grader.

I dont understand the massive desire of Crows selling the farm for Rankine not in $ but in draft picks as a flashy spasmodic impact small forward ,when we used last years first high pick Rachelle who has higher ceiling than Rankine you would expect.
When we have a massive need for a X factor mid and KPP especially in defence
With only a 1st and 2 nd round pick as gave away our 3rd and no players to offer with any real trade value and too many very very average players with contracts for 1 or 2 more years our trading and decent draft picks is limited.

Maybe they view Rankine as a mid moving forward. Even if they don't the market isn't exactly flush with elite mids willing to come to Adelaide.

I don't think it's completely unrealistic to split our first pick (into two later firsts) and use a first and second on Rankine and the other first on Cox from Freo.

I’d say they view Rachele as a mid moving forward.. more than Rankine anyway..

I’ve said it before..

I hope (if we do get Rankine) our forward line next year looks like this..

Rankine/Rachele Tex Newchurch
Mcadam Fog TT

So Rankine and Rachele share a forward spot. When one of them is forward the other is in the midfield.. with Rachele actually spending more time in the Midfield.

Rachele needs to be in the middle.

That forward line has speed, x-factor, sublime skills, goal sense and a good mix of talls, very talls, mediums and smalls.. Newchurch plays a bit taller than he actually is IMO.. and I’d love to see him and rankine working together running around the feet of tex, fog and TT..

Recruitment and list management are two areas of the club that are very weak. I don't think they actually have a clue how to turn this club around so they just reach for that good news story instead. It's the only way the club can still suck people into paying for a membership.

It's funny seeing the general consensus opinion on the board gradually move from 'we must get Rankine at all costs' to 'we shouldn't spend our first on a forward pocket'. Ready for massive meltdowns when we do get him, as you'd think it would inevitably cost a first. Best case scenario would be 2023 first.

TBH watching Elliot and Ginnivan yesterday (and throughout the year) made me quite content in going hard after a player like Rankine to pair with Rachele up forward.

Rankine and Rachele to me is an infinitely more dangerous duo than any combination of Murphy McHenry Rowe.

I suspect Rachele to move into the midfield more throughout the year. But just having 2 small forwards with that level of talent, certainly gets the adrenalin going!

I’ve always watched young Izak pretty close since junior days. I think calling him a bit flashy and spasmodic was probably pretty fair early days.

I think what we saw this year was penny finally drop about what it takes to have a career in this caper. Not only did he kick 29 but he gave out another 18. That’s top 10 in the league. He got coach votes in 8 games out of his 18.

What that tells me is you’ve now got a kid who’s working hard, setting up him team mates and doing much more than kicking a few flashy goals. I think the crows will get him at just the right time.

You can have whatever fwd line you want, when our mids cant hit you on the lead and generally only bomb it in you ain't scoring.

Didn’t we trade our 2022 3rd rounder on Draft night last year for Melbourne’s Pick 43, which we then used to select Zac Taylor?

On SANFL form to date, that looks like a good investment to me. The kid can play and looks a much better prospect that most of our recent 1st Rounder midfield spuds.
