From here the AFL media engine will crank into overdrive suggesting we should pay massive overs for him and that it sucks for the poor Gold Coast and never should have happened

Meanwhile Victorian clubs pillage Gold Coast and GWS and that's all fair because they're "coming home"
I have a feeling I'm going to be very active on Twitter reminding all the journos that they said nothing when Lynch went to the reigning premiers, nor did they have an issue when Rankine was heading to Essendon...

ohh boy this will really piss off SEN

they've been on the "he's going to resign with GC" train all year

The club is going to offer JHF a monster offer as well. We are into him like a fat kid on ice cream.
JHF has no issue with the club at all.
JHF know we highly rate him given what we offered North last year so it was a very smart strategy by us laying the ground work and now he know we aren't afraid to throw big contract anymore as well.

Why does thread say requests trade to south Australia, when he specifically asks for a trade to the Crows?
Because that's how the gold coast camp said it. The AFL article specifically mentions the crows though.

Everyone says that, but surely GWS or North would have picked Dawson in the PSD? Especially North. Why is it so different this year?
GWS had no cap space, it's why they shed players every off season. Norf was in disarray but different this year with Clarko driving the club. Dodoro would be licking his lips.

You offer $4 mill over 5 years, you expect to pay at the trade table. Carlton for example target players with big contracts and are prepared to offer up high picks in good faith

AFL won't let it get done for unders, GC is their club, they are propping them up to make them successful, they won't cop us trying to low ball GC. AFL can control everything behind the scenes. They have the PP situation over Norf who will do their bidding if told. If we tried to pull the PSD threat in negotiations, you can guarantee years of shit draws and shit timeslots from the AFL, a sinister organisation who hold grudges and we aren't part of their boys club.

We've attracted Rankine, it's now on us to get the deal done quickly in good faith.

The reddit thread is predictably full of sooks now that one is coming back our way. Lots saying they feel sorry for the Suns. Don't remember much sympathy when we lost Davis, Gunston, Lever, Cameron, McGovern, etc, after developing them.

Jesus, does it have to be brought up in everything :p

And there's the potential downside to this great news - the priority for the Crows is, without question, an elite(or potentially elite) midfielder, so without Pick 5 I will be fascinated to see what rabbit is pulled out of somewhere to obtain the right fit. If we go with the same group in 2023 we will not progress at all.
There will be several pretty decent mids still on the table at our 2nd pick (if we still have it) Kobe Ryan, Coby Burgeil, possibly Adam D'Alioa, Nick Saddler, Hugh Bond etc or players like Lachlan Cowan and Henry Hustwaite for example that look very good possibilities to transition inti full time mids down the track.

Priority is now to get the deal done without involving pick 5. If this means we somewhat overpay, I can live with that.

We should be aiming for that high end mid this year (Phillipou). If we keep our future first for a mid next year we maybe end up with pick 8 or so and miss out.

If GC aren't interested in our future first, someone else might be and we should look to get creative.

None of which matters in the scheme of things....It's what North are prepared to accept for their CONTRACTED player and in that regard Powa have the upperhand IMO.

He would be one of those players that would make me eat my words
Honestly, I probably rate him more than a lot of people here, he's just not the type of forward that fits in with what Nicks wants at all. You could do worse than giving him a 1 year try out, he's crafty around goals and he will fit in a lot better with you than with us I reckon.

There's also the issue that GWS finished well above us last year so we would have got Dawson well before he fell through to them in the PSD :p

But no manager will let his player go to the PSD unless the result is certain ie the club has pick 1 (eg us with Jackson Hately). No way Dawson was taking his chances with us at pick 4 last year, and Rankine even less likely to do so this year with us having pick 5. PSD is an empty threat.
