Seems like Caracalla is on his way out, I wonder if Gia may be a consideration as per Cooney’s podcast earlier today.

Whichever way we go I just really hope we are patient this time, as long as the effort and intent is there each week the members will be happy to bide their time for regular success

I agree, but, do you honestly think we will gift them time unless the W/L record is heavily in our favour?

I think we have to now.

For as horribly as Truck was treated - and as much as he absolutely didn’t deserve it - Barham was right that you can’t have 5+ games a year where the team just doesn’t show up. You can have one, maybe two at absolute max. Truck was clearly at least partially a scapegoat, but he coached a team that about once a month totally and completely threw in the towel. You can’t have that at this level.

Whether people like it or not, Truck let that happen. He came out, after an atrocious second half against GWS and an atrocious 4 quarters against Port - said he wouldn’t accept those effort levels - and then let the same side play again and, of course, lost by 11 goals.

We’re not going to be a winning side for a while, no matter who’s coaching - but the players need to learn that effort can’t just be applied when they feel like it. It’s a non-negotiable.

Do we have the depth to stop that from happening though, regardless of who we drop and subsequently bring in? Who could we have dropped and brought in that would have stopped the carnage, and possibly blowing the margin by even more, against the Tigers?

The only player that I though gave a **** on the weekend was Zach. To me, that was disappointing. As others have pointed out though, there are current Premiership coaches that have had multiple blowouts during their initial coaching years.

I'm not saying Truck was the answer, we will never know now. What I do believe though, is that if the board are looking for a more experienced coach to replace Truck, there are slim pickings. So you know who we will end up with, don't you!

I’d love to get a look at Steve Johnson as an assistant. Has done stints at Sydney and GWS. With the changes there at the latter, it could be a chance for him to come home to VIC. Plus he always had a bit of mongrel and high footy IQ.

Edit: as an assistant.

It's comical but also sad , seeing so many in the media saying we need new ideas and a non-Essendon guy to coach but nearly everyone knows it's going to be Hird.

It was interesting revisiting (with Lyon, Brown, Roo) how Dunstall was tasked with hiring a new coach for them and went with Clarko (obviously a non-Hawthorn guy) and he had to clear out a lot of friends from various roles during that process. I wonder if an ex-Bomber could do that? or just hire Dunstall for us and hope he wouldn't deliberately sabotage his old rivals in the process!

Dunstall and the Hawks coaching committee chose Wallace. He knocked back the job and went to Richmond instead.

Clarkson wasn’t their choice, they ended up with him when Wallace snubbed them.

It’s often not mentioned.

Also Eade snubbed them for the Dogs. It was down to Clarko and Ayres, Dermie wanted Ayres and Dunstall Clarko. Interesting at the time of appt there was huge board upheaval with Don Scott group looking to oust the board and even threatening to reverse Clarko decision if they took over. Clarko brushed off concerns

Still a couple of years away from senior coach imo. Only been a full time coach since 2018.

What was his excuse this year? It seems like he’d checked out and exhausted all avenues to success so threw in the towel with some bizarre coaching moves and playing players out of position which ultimately ended his tenure. Appears burnt out to me.
That is why I started with I doubt he coaches right now. He had run his race at the Giants.

Melbourne 2019. 105 , 98 , 68 , 61 , 54, 54 losing margins. 2021. Flag. Same coach.
Not saying it is not an issue but if you go back through any club trying to build something there are always 4 or 5 games that totally fall apart. They have parted ways with Truck which is okay as I think the mistake they made was appointing a bloke from within and the message was not there for some senior players after 4 years of listening to him in some form but big losses come with sides trying to change.
In Clarkson's second season.96,75,65,53,52 losing margins. It can happen in a build.

Hey do you mind speeding up your coach selection, we need to appoint another assistant who won’t upset Kenneth Hinkley next year so he can ride out into retirement at the greyhound track.

On a serious note, if Yze is rated so highly why isn’t he getting a top job as yet? He sounds like Scott Burns a bit, highly rated but stuck in assistant land. Did people consider Kingsley in that way in Victoria? Seems more like the quiet achiever.

Apparently Ken was on a plane to Melb by the way. Keep the doors shut.
