We’ve strengthened our list which made top 4, but are no where near top 4 quality again.

Ok 🙄
We are short a tall defender and Howe nearing the end. Elliott is our best forward.

Five of our best players are nearing the end.

Credit to all concerned last year, but the standard wasn’t flash and we were ‘dropping putts from everywhere’.

If Mihocek and Howe are rejuvenated, Dean and Kreuger have good years, young fellows keep progressing - with the addition of Mitchell - we could very well improve, coaching panel very impressive, but realistically 6-10.

We’ve added Frampton and will have Dean competing for that spot too. We’ve got more tall defenders available now than we did for almost the entire of last season. Added to that, Murphy would be a very good 3rd tall interceptor, despite being a bit slower than Howe.
Five of our best players are nearing the end.
Until they actually start dropping off significantly, that’s not really an issue for the coming season.

Yet we made top 4, absolutely belted a “contender” in Freo in the finals, missed the grand final by a whisker and were the only team to actually get near to the eventual premiers.

Fixed that last line for you.

I continue to hear rumours that Essendon are open to trading number four so they can then trade into next year's draft. Take with a grain of salt.
I wouldn't be trading out next year's 1st.
We need a couple more years of 1st round selections to continue building our list, top end talent is so crucial.
Not sure how Pies pull that off if we're super keen on Bombers pick.

Can someone remind me if the first round only covers the top 18 selections or goes to Geelongs pick. Feel it is the latter. Our pick may potentially blow out to 19, which would be handy in the first scenario, as the first pick on night 2.

what kind of behaviour? Clearly matured, I met him last year. Very down to earth and friendly.
I read it on BigFooty when I suggested we draft him at the MSD (wouldn't be the stupidest thing to do). Apparently not very mature, did some stupid things. Working as an agent has been good for him.

What I meant by that, poorly expressed, was we trade them our three picks, they give us pick four.

Then, Essendon will on-trade 25+27 to gain a selection next year.

Sounds great to me, but don't clubs have to make three selections as a minimum in the ND?

First round goes to Geelong’s (now with GWS) pick.

That would be with draft picks. We need ours to replace Pendlebury, Howe, Sidebottom etc etc. Paying for contracted non-FA players will have to wait a bit, after we develop the young fellows and see what position we find ourselves in.
Which is kind of the interesting point. Why are people so preoccupied picking for ‘needs’, we have needs in every position…

We broke all sorts of records winning close games to make it, new coach and strategy will need to revised next year…question on whether we get that right. Aging stars and all we need is some key injuries and some bad press and we are out of the 8. It’s a tough game and we don’t have depth.

So yes I would not be trading away our first pick again!

They’d only be interested in pick 4/5 in order to land Tsatsas… given he’s expected to go top 5 and is an Oakleigh player… who the pies have a strong recruiting history with

But as others have said… I wouldn’t trade out next years first

If the kid is keen on the pies we can trade him in once his first contract expires

Given they want to trade down the order AND land Phillipou, we couldnt deal with something like that. Saints more likely with their pick 9/10

Essendon is open to a draft night trade that would push the Bombers down the draft order while still securing their No.1 midfield target, but it would take a compelling offer.
The Bombers are determined to nail a draft night strategy that could see them nailing a powerful midfielder like Mattaes Phillipou to round out their onball unit as well as selecting a trio of exciting Indigenous talents.

They have picks 4, 22, 54, 68 and 72, and ideally would use the early pick and selection 22 before a club lodges a bid on father-son prospect Alwyn Davey Jr.

Clubs are likely to consider Davey from the late teens onwards, and Essendon will surely match that bid, but would love to secure a bonus player at pick 22 before his name is called.

But before that they will have a decision on the No.4 pick – set to drift to pick 5 after Will Ashcroft’s father-son selection at Brisbane.

Essendon is interested in Phillipou, an exciting 190cm, 89kg Woodville West Torrens mid-forward equally adept in the centre square or pushing into attack with his strong overhead marking.

But if they believed they could secure him with a pick later in the top 10 it could allow them to secure a second selection – likely in next year’s draft – as the price for easing down the top 10.

St Kilda is one club at pick 10 who has ambitions for a higher draft selection.

Exactly right, bring him in after they’ve trained him up.

On the flip side we were up there with both grand finalists during the finals.

We had a tough run home, I think we were one of the best 4 teams in the league in the last third of the season - once we'd tightened up our defence and had our game plan begin to click and I think we've strengthened the group since then. I'm bullish about next year.

I’ll be interested in how sides like; Brisbane, Carlton, Port and Footscray progress. You’d think Fremantle 8-10th.

Pardon the intrusion, but I daresay any trade with Collingwood would more be in line of 23 (at the time), 68 and our F2 for 17 and 51. Pick 65 will end up quite a few picks earlier so you wouldn't be too far off where 51 is.

Only clubs I can see us trading with for pick 5 are Hawthorne, St Kilda, Carlton or the Dogs, for a variety of reasons, and even the last two are pushing it

Yeah, nah thanks

How far is Tstatas likely to slide if essendon dont pick him? Would Hawthorn? Geelong/Eagles wont. Saints/Carlton may have other priorities.
Maybe targeting a pick around there woud be more realistic.
