Did anyone listen to Parker interview 2 weeks ago? (its on the Swans website Official AFL Website of the Sydney Swans Football Club. All the latest news, videos, results and information.). He said (para phrasing), numbers of stoppages are going down and the game is turning into a transition and turnover game.. so the Swans game plan will follow.

A lot of talk about needing a 'clearance king'.. been a lot of talk over the last few years about needing to draft/trade a big bodied inside mid to be such a player. While praising Beatson and Dalrymple over the last few years for their picking of bolters.. has anyone stopped to look at the type of player they're drafting? Are they a step ahead in drafting players (with pace, endurance, kicking skills over Braun) for where the game is heading as opposed to where the game used to be?
I reckon the game is changing in ways that us fans cant quite keep up with, cant quite see..
Interesting that last year a team with a midfield of two very young and relatively small (rowbum, Warner) midfielders + Mills (brilliant but not a 'big body') + Parker (experienced and tough but only 183cm and 88kg - hardly a 'big bodied' clearance beast) finished 2nd! Dont forget Collingwood, who finished 18th in clearances over the last 8 rounds also finished very high up the ladder

Im backing our midfield of Warner, Rowbum, Mills & Parker.. add the outside/inside/'transition' players like Gulden, Stephens, JMac (Campbell, and all the others pushing for selection) to take us to the finals again.

Definitely think we need to continue improving our centre clearances & contested work.

Thanks for pointing us to that Parker interview SGBeach.

It's arresting to hear Parker describe Logan as "one of those awkward guys... He's a medium tall but he gets up and down the ground really well. He can get be a hard match up on". It's a bit more tempered than I'd hope for. Even describing him as a "medium tall" makes me sit up. I know he's not a 200+ cm giant but I thought he was a legitimate tall (in contrast to those 192 cm ish types like Francis, Gould, Tom McCartin).

The comparison through juniors was always to a Reiwoldt, not a monster tall.

And Logan is 6 foot 5 - hardly a little bloke!

Personally, I reckon he could become the new Simon Minton-Connell (minus the departure to Hawthorn).

28FEB23: Swans Daily Media
Around the grounds health check with the Swans ruck division mentioned...but hey at least we don't have an injury list like the Saints, and the season hasn't even started yet.

For general discussion , but rucks are not like they were , look at the Cats , that's why i liked Edwards debut , big and quick .

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the use of the preface 'at least' when talking about RJ being out for the first few rounds sounds a little ominous.

Recent interview with Rowbottom;

What is the secret to Sydney's sustained success over the past two decades?
Sydney midfielder James Rowbottom attributed it to "transitional culture", which the football world know as "Bloods culture".
“I think it’s been the transitional culture that gets passed down from generation to generation," Rowbottom said in an interview with The Sporting News.

On Longmire;
"He’s [Longmire] unbelievable. He’s one of the most passionate and loyal people of this footy club and would do anything for us and he’s incredible to play under,” Rowbottom said of his coach.
“The way he’s transitioned as the group's changed as well has been a massive credit to him. My first year, we had over 1000 games of experience retire … and a new generation of Swans footballers coming through. John’s changed with that and that’s been incredible.

GF Review;
"We touched on it [what went wrong in the Grand Final]. What the boys were expecting would eventuate and how it would pan out. And when it didn’t go the way we thought it would, people just went into their shells. Reflecting on that when we got back to the club, we’ll learn from that and try not do that again.”

28thFEB: John Longmire interview/RSN

report on RSN interview with Longmire.

On Buddy;
Sydney coach John Longmire has told fans they will have to be patient with Lance Franklin, who he says will take some time to build into the AFL season.

“It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to say we don’t expect him to play every week, every minute of the game … at 36, it can be a real challenge to do that,” Longmire told RSN’s Breakfast with Harf program.
“He’s had a bit of a restricted pre-season – he only played a half last week.
“He hasn’t been going at full power through the pre-season, so the plan is to build him up again this week, and it will take a few weeks for him to hit his stride.”

Talks up Campbell's and McAndrew's prospects
Young halfback Braeden Campbell, who was the medi-sub in the grand final, and 209cm rugby union convert Lachlan McAndrew were named as two players Longmire could see breaking into the senior side in the early stages of the season.

“I’d like to see the continued development of Braeden Campbell. We think that he’s played a bit of footy for us now but we’ve seen bits and pieces of him, and we’re really looking forward to him coming on,” Longmire said.

“We expect with Tom Hickey at the moment having a calf injury that (McAndrew) will certainly be looking at some game time at some point early in the season, and that will be great for Swans fans to see as well.”

McAndrew, who led the Swans’ ruck division against the Lions, was benefiting greatly from working with a fellow former rookie-listed player in Dean Cox, Longmire said.

Mod note: hairy biker I've removed the Herald Sun link and added the Swans website link which also contains the podcast interview.

"....a fellow former rookie listed player in Dean Cox"

Clearly the fact that Cox was a rookie makes all the difference.

I like how they didn't even say who rucked with Hickey and Ladhams out. Is it that hard to mention big Stretch

Great interview 12mins with Ben Matthews(assistant coach at the Swan).

Talks a lot about the players especially with regard to the 2 preseason matches.

Some good bits about Gould, Roberts, injuries to talls, Francis, Sheldrick and more

Matthew’s sounds like Andrew Gaze. It’s uncanny.
