That's interesting, because we've played Kelly and Heppell together since Langford went forward in about Round 3, and we've played either 2 rucks and 1 tall forward, or 2 rucks and 2 forwards, with one of them being subbed off for a small forward or small defender almost every week. That's our preferred set up that has won us most of our games 🤔

I do think the structure is a bit messed up, but it's more to do with the number of smalls in each part of the ground – in particular we dropped Menzie (fwd) for Parish (mid), and D'Ambrosio (sub fwd/def) for Menzie (fwd), so effectively 7.5 forwards down to 6.5, while the midfield has increased by 1.

That should mean that Hobbs (or Caldwell) were playing as a pressure forward, but that's not where they play their best footy.
Unfortunately there are only so many mid spots

Also Hobbs and Caldwell are very good as half forwards aswell

Which inside mid from last week wouldve you dropped for Parish to keep it the same?

What i would do

Ridley - Baldwin - Laverde
Mcgrath - Zerk - Redman (Hind)

Durham - Parish - N.Martin (Massimo)
Draper - Zerrett - Stringer (Hobbs)

Caldwell - Weideman - Wanganeen
Menzie - Wright - Langford (Byran)

In: Draper, Massimo, Menzie, Wanganeen, Baldwin, Hind
Out: Phillips, Perkins (VFL mid for 6 weeks), Snelling, Guelfi, Heppell, Kelly

Laverde - SPP
Baldwin/Zerk/Ridley - Finlayson/Dixon/Marshall

From the VFL.
Hind and Mass good.
Baldwin pretty good most of the day.
Voss okay although missed some shots.
Wanganeen had a good third quarter when he was on ball for a bit.
Walla average.
Davey unsighted.
Monty not as good as he has been.
Cox. Soft.

Maybe this is his go? Was really good on ball a few games ago as well.

We haven’t been playing 2 players like weid and wright with 2 rucks all season…
I’d rather have a look at a smaller forward line with langford being the 2nd pseudo tall/ Draper resting ruck.
Heppell didn’t start the season in defense, and the last 3/4 weeks when Kelly has been our backline has looked a lot more balanced.

Has certainly helped him to get into the game. Not sure he has the tank to sustain it right now and he was a bit behind pre season.

Not what I said.
You said Hobbs and Caldwell dont play their best footy forward, suggesting they play their best in the midfield? No. Which is the case for a lot of players playing half forward in the comp

Generally there are only 4 onball spots or main players at CBA. Parish, Zerrett, Stringer and Caldwell were those players for us

Guelfi, Snelling, Perk, Langford and Hobbs were the non tall forwards

Still not sure why we dropped Hind for Kelly this week? Would prefer Hind or Mass in the side over him.

Kelly generally defends better than Hind or Mass.

Seeing how Suns performed after their bye and comparing it to now. Noting Hawks are coming off their bye this week. it’s a world of difference.

Bye rounds have been poorly planned this year and have caused some havoc with results/performances.

Let’s see how we go this week.

In: Baldwin, Menzie, Massimo
Out: Kelly, Weideman, Guelfi

Sub: Guelfi

Bryan was ok. Deserving of another week. Just needs greater game sense to remember that winning the aerial duel is only half the battle. Still need to tap it to advantage or a contested space, not to the opposition mids.

Want to see Langford deployed as a deep forward targeting different channels to Wright.
