For his age dow showing more than a lambert did -- he will be useful for another side next year .. I don't worry his previous shortcomings as can see his progression - his disposal and composure ball in hand is totally opposite to past years I and his ground coverage is Eqaul to our other mids outside of Walsh -- it's a real credit to his commitment to the task ahead of him .. whether he plays AFL for us or not isn't my worry as I'm a supporter not a selector but wherever he ends up I will be happy to see him do well he has earned my respect ..
Agree with you though not about him leaving. But its not so long back he was being claimed a Silvagni dud hereabouts.

Anyway, missed the 3rd qtr, but from what I saw...

Mots got into the game more in terms of intent, and got his hands on the ball

Binns was a standout, 2 way footy at its finest, developing nicely and isn't far off

Durdin should be elevated, plays tge shutdown role Weitering back to intercepting more

Cowan built through the game well, more overlap and taking the game on was good to see

Plow was reliable, didn't make too many mistakes

Carroll faded a little with his impact, but was moving better than recent weeks

Huddo is a competitor, 7 tackles as a ruckman is a great sign

Lemmey got better, showed more intent, despite coming up against a smaller opponent

Feel for Dow getting concussion and or a possible broken snout

Marchbank must have played a half of footy in total

From that game, I would consider, Durdin being elevated and Binns, Cowan if a spot opens up to poor outings or injuries

Enough is enough. Ed Curnow has been a great servant and one of my favourites over the years, but he should not now named in the AFL in preference to Dow. Would love to know the real story as to why the MC plays this ridiculous game. Driving a young guy with real potential out of the club, and we'll get virtually nothing back. Why?
It’s weird, in that he is mates with and lives with Sam Walsh so not as if he is disliked amongst the players

LOB says hi, was far more assured than recent outings. Decent game.

Didn’t see much of O’Keeffe at the back end if the game, might be considered a sign that we will require ruck coverage in coming weeks.

Once again Lemmey looked much better up the ground. I am thinking he needs development behind the ball or in the ruck.

Marchy is all class, but still so far off game ready. I have been one of his most optimistic supporters, but have to concede the end is nigh…

Forgot about LOB. While he braced a little better around a contest, didn't have the impact he should have in that type of game. Behind Binns for mine

Had to miss this game.
Did Marchy play a full game and how did he look?
Not great, they didn’t have a lot to do & conditions pretty avg. Durds was the stand out back, looked awesome early, hit some challenging kicks to open play (& did so quickly) was taking good grabs with smart positioning & body work

Same size as Hollands!
Binns is harder than Cowan & Hollands, made 4 efforts on one play & goes every contest. It’s early but I see Simmo level fighting out out of his weight class and winning, seems surprisingly strong for his size. If Dow didn’t tear the 3rd quarter apart he would have been best on.

Hope people don’t get too excited by Mott’s kicking 4, was lazy AF early, still not getting front and centre & was a rather large seagull for parts.
Did stick some tackles, laced out a couple leads & hit the score board.
His overall vision & decision making is still iffy, only sees the blatantly obvious & doesn’t work to help team mates.
He’s only young, but needs to put his head down & work his ass off to be the player we need.

Where Paddy has become elite is the timing of his push on an opponent at clearances. Most stoppages today he had an opponent facing him with arms out yet he manages to release himself at the perfect moment to shark a hit out.
I doesn’t matter what level. That is elite.

Still charging in. When 80 points up in the last seconds of the game. Hope that final collision hasn’t done too much damage.

Add in his ability to judge when an opponent is going to grab him at a clearance and take a step away from the player is definitely elite. A lot of our mids just try and barge through rather than take that side step.

Dow clearly BOG. I can't understand why he is not getting a game. He offers something we don't have in the midfield. Ed Curnow won't be on the list next year and we aren't playing finals this year.

Will end up the recruit of the year which ever club he goes too.

Just got home from the game...should take about a week for my toes to thaw out!!!

Brilliant effort by the boys, although the opposition wasn't really up to scratch...reckon the poor ol' Bullants haven't quite been the same since Finbar crossed over to Williamstown.

All you good people here have pretty much nailed it.
  • Paddy D was sensational, someone's going to get a bit of a bargain the end of the year
  • Binnsy did what Binnsy does - perpetual motion, and a just a natural footballer
  • Cow was awesome down back...fearless in his approach to the ball - is he really only 18yo?!?
  • loved HO'K's game - getting better each week, loves the physicality. Came off with a leg injury though.
  • Mots still playing a bit of U18 football - he'll learn hopefully, but wonderful skills
  • Carroll has me a little confused - still not sure if he's gonna make it or not
  • good to see Marchy get though the game - reckon we'll see him get a call up in the next week or two
  • Nigel - get him in the senior side soon Vossy!!
  • Lem was competitive - still think he needs a few pre seasons to fill out and start crashing packs
  • LOB - much more competitive this week - not convinced though.

Ramshaw and Dozzi watch:
  • Dozzi started the match in a blaze but came off early with a leg injury early. On crutches.
  • Ramshaw - does he ever play a bad game? Some of his creative handball out of traffic was sublime. Bit quieter though in the 2nd half.

I headed over to the Gardiner Stand side for the final quarter near the interchange bench so got a close up view of the Dow collision - it was a fair old whack. Not sure what the cameras showed in the aftermath, but he ended up coming off the ground unassisted. Looks like he probably has a broken beak, although for a few moments I was nervous it may have been a broken jaw.

Would be surprised to see him over the next week or two....which of course is gonna make the match previews a little boring

Dow is not a penetrating kick.

You must have been getting a cup of tea when he slotted one from the 50 from a handpass from Cowan in the third......

He was unquestionably BOG, ran all day and still went in hard at the death when he was concussed, convenient reason why he will be unavailable next week.......

So that’s a no, kicked it 60 on the run, flat and hard today - definition of a penetrating kick.
Was the only player kicking it well against the wind when they played down the bay into a gale. Barely hit it from the set shots he kicked today.
He kicks the ball bloody hard these days.
I wish people would start watching the games & actually paying attention to what he’s doing now vs their preconceived ideas.

Not sure what you were watching his movement from the kick ins to
Force inside 50 turnovers was elite. Directly responsible for 3-4 goals plus many more attempts at goal just from this action alone.

I really hope Carlton re-sign Dow for atleast another year. 23 years old. He’s growing exponentially. When he finally gets a full game he won’t leave the senior side. Nor should he. His forward craft is improving too. I’d easily have him in the seniors ahead of Curnow, Kennedy Cuningham Fogarty and Hewett right now.

I know he owes the club nothing but he may look back on these last few years glowingly if he finally gets a decent crack. I don’t want to see him flourish in a st kilda or Richmond jumper. He’s the biggest bargain in the afl right now.
