Strategy Draft assistance 2023 [Twomey: NMFC get #19 in 2023, x2 end of 1st rd picks in 2024, and x2 extra rookie list spots in 2024; no Sanders/#11]

Just once what I'd love to hear from someone running this angle is what compensation they think Buddy should have generated. Same with Frawley, same with McKay. Just tell us how you think the system should work

Probably some expert commissioner gets to place a draft value against a free agent. So McKay is worth pick 30. Frawley is worth pick 20. And Buddy gets pick 1 for the next 5 years.

The Rawlings bashing on here is completely out of hand and based on very little evidence.
It really is incredible. People on here think he makes decisions on his own. It'd be Rawlings, Thursfield, Clayton, Clarko and Viney all coming to a group decision on the move and then it probably gets ticked off by the CEO/Pres/Board as well.

Me too. I'd prefer to go to the nearest active volcano, get a bucket of burning lava and pour it into each ear if it meant I could avoid hearing this drivel.
Pretty much this, but with two goats instead of one...

-Both, in a huge surprise, against what we got
-Banged on about us 'continually' getting assistance, we put ourselves in the situation and other greatest hits
-Edwards somehow tried to make the Hawks winning flags after priority picks as a reason it was unfair the Clarko should try and do it again at North (it made even less sense than it sounds!)
-Also, somehow had a whinge about Buddy only getting her Hawks pick 19 a decade ago

Quality listening 😂

The absolute audacity of Chris Scott. Arguably no club has benefited more from the Father/Son rule than Geelong. And then last year their rorting of the Salary Cap dump which gave them Pick 7 as well, yet he is happy to spout his rubbish. He should be ashamed of himself.

If there was no F/S rule then we would have had Nick Daicos, a far better Pick 1 than mummy's boy from the 2021 Draft.

We might well have taken Will Ashcroft last year, though I am more than happy with Harry. Irrespective, no F/S rule would have meant that West Coast would have taken whoever we didn't take out of Harry and Ashcroft.

Take away the NGA and we would have had a third choice, being Cadman and in 2020, Ugle-Hagan would have gone to another club.

If people are going to get all salty about things like this, then they should call for all compromised draft situations to be abolished and then his comments would become valid, in that the natural order of the draft rewards you for being at or near the bottom of the draft.

Imagine how last year (2022) we might have performed if we had have been able to draft Nick Daicos instead of s***forbrains. I don't think we would be needing to ask for assistance if we hadn't had to compete in a highly compromised situation.

This is the thing.

You cannot point to just draft assistance and say it is unfair and at the same time Gold Coast can pay for a couple of top 10 kids and another from the first round with a combination of picks in the 30s, 40s, and 50s.

If people want to complain about the system being manifestly unfair then it is the entire system that needs to be overhauled rather than just an aspect to it.

The AFL have no interest in overhauling the system because it allows them liberties that a "fair" system would not.

The AFL is sports entertainment. it has little desire in being anything other than that.

So get this folks... Nick Riewoldt just had his say on Triple M. He thinks we should receive nothing because there are other equalisation measures that the AFL had available and they have chosen the wrong one and we don't deserve it because we did it to ourselves and we played 8 finals in the last 10 years compared to the Saints etc etc. This coming from a person whose entire career unfolded as a result of being a priority pick at a club that played in a grand final just 3 years prior. FFS, irony much?

A lot of cherry picking going on here. No finals in 7 years would be more relevant.

So Nick is able to quote the misinformation he heard from Bill & Ben on 360 last night?
Well done Nick, good listening mate

Repeat something enough and it becomes accepted fact.

Just putting this out there that MAYBE the media and Clubs via the AFL are playing 5th dimensional chess with us here on Bigfooty, remember when we thought we were being shafted via no pick 11 and no access to Sanders and offered some s**t second round picks as a consolation prize AND NOW we are lapping it up like kittens on crack milk because the media and clubs are salty as all hell.

WE ARE BEING PLAYED FOR FOOLS WHERE IS OUR ACCESS TO SANDERS AND OUR PICK 11 YOU *erS 🤪
I still think it should have been 4, Saunders and 11 next year (tradable).

Couldn't give a damn about the media narrative.
We've got 3x early second rounders to play with. If we keep them they'll realistically turn into a good player, a serviceable player and a miss.
I do subscribe to the theory that it would be best to trade the two future picks however as the AFL will take them away if we significantly improve (which is actually a possibility praise be!).
Therefore, do we use them for players or to upgrade picks?

C.Scott is so wrong.

I said this ages ago, finishing down the bottom and getting an early draft pick isn’t enough to get you off the bottom anymore. Not when any team can snare a FA for nothing, or pick up a f/s for cheap points, or an academy player, or the reverse and pick up an early draft pick for cheap points.

It’s the AFL’s own doing the way they set up the expansion clubs. With all the consessions given they just become feeder clubs for the popular teams. The player & pick dump to Geelong was the final straw of a truely ****ed up system.

Gil is on 360 tonight.

Apparently Robbo is going to get stuck into him over the draft assistance.
