I have no idea where Curtin is playing. Just seems to bob up all over the ground, sometimes he's up forward, sometimes he's on the wing, then he's suddenly mopping up in the defensive goal-square??? He had a good game, great to see him get reward for effort today. You'd take 15 touches and 2 goals every week. Draper a little quiet, but does so many nice little things, and two goals from him is also great reward for effort.
Great write up!

On Curtin, I thought he was very good and all his touches counted. He was involved in setting up a few goals, with the most impressive being Draper's first - Rankine sold him into trouble by kicking into a 3 on 1, but he somehow got it out to Thilthorpe to Draper - a nice display of or recent first rounders working together.

O'Brien, Milera and Sholl were exposed. We don't even need a dominant ruck, just one that isn't a liability.
Agree, on all three. Among our worst 5 players today. Add Keane to make that 4. Borlase, five.
O’Brien exposed???

He was really good. This hate of Rob is getting silly now.
Funny how we watched the same game/player and disagree so strongly.
I don't "hate" RoB, but I thought he was a dud today; supposedly had 32 hit-outs (Xerri 28), but only 7 to advantage compared to 14 for Xerri (Fox Sports). That's 22% compared to 50% to advantage, RoB:Xerri.
As always, his kicking was awful --- at the ground when O'Brien had the ball Crows supporters around us were yelling "Don't let him kick the ball!" to general merriment.

AnB & Soligo are serial offenders according to the Roos Board.. also we're the umpire's pets, gahhhd gotta love footy! 😉
Soligo had one where he exaggerated high contact.
Not sure a supporter group who cheered Lindsay Thomas can say anything though.

Milera is the same. I’m fine having him if he’s taking on risky kicks and setting up breakaway transition, however these days he takes the safe option with the few times he gets it, and gets caught trying to fend or break tackles. Not sure what Nank has to do.
Milera's first possession was a quick/slick handball ...
...
straight to a grateful NM player.
He didn't get any better after that. Drop Milera.

I still can’t get over the amateur-hour guesswork we all put up with from the video umpire.

I don’t care if some dickhead upstairs thinks he can see a fingernail on the ball.

Tip of the finger is a goal. Everyone knows that.

Don’t be going upstairs for a graze of the fingertips, nobody gives a f*ck and it’s still a goal. Those are the rules.

I agree with all but this, with respect:
Actually credit to O'Brien I thought he beat Xerri at the very least was even with him today and that's a player who dominated Gawn last week.
HITOUTS: O'Brien 32, Xerri 28
HITOUTS (to advantage) O'Brien 7 (22%), Xerri 14 (50%). <==Fox stats.

I caught as much as I could while at home then driving then in the pub

I thought Milera struggled and while I didnt notice RoB be terrible some of his taps - especially to Crouch - were superb.

I also felt we had a comfortable grip on the game - even 8 points up - and while North played well and frustrated us we had just enough to be better

In my preview I said North were going to be a worry - and they have a lot of positives

It was the kind of game where a lot of good a lot of bad played out and the great was we grinded out the win when in a bind

Oh damn did we get two marks paid that were a metre out of bounds? Oh right that was the Roos.
& we took 2 marks on the 2nd attempt that were not paid marks.

Has the umpiring standard ever been worse?

At least the goal called after cannoning into the post was overturned.

Interesting to read on the Roos board that many thought it was our pressure game that was the difference... I gather leading to them turnover the ball more.

There was 1 poster who thought they controlled the game more, but to be fair only 1 & we have delusional posters too.

The goal Tex kicked from Ruck, Southern End was clever.

Norf Ruck did not want to engage physically. Instead looked to want to come in late and tap without contact

Tex engages as the ball is in the hit box. Taking that advantage away. Outbodies and wins posession.

It was smart Footy.
Smart Footy x 2.
2 of his goals were from ruck contests
