Thats a pretty fair reflection. If Riley had nailed those early shots, I suspect he gets BOG as he would have kicked at least 5 goals and completely dominated their defence

Swap Butters and Rozee, and I agree. Port put us to the sword in the clinches, and Butters was a big reason why.

If TT nails those shots, this game isn't close.

He must have hated Robbie Gray, Wanganeen.

Of the current team, Rozee, Butters, JHF and DBJ must be pure scum.
JHF isn’t a stager is he? Can’t remember him ever being a flopper, I’d suggest the opposite he cops whacks and gets on with it?

Also means a 2nd ruck - as in back in my day - is no longer feasible UNLESS they bring something else ie forward craft

Yup, 2nd ruck is a completely dead position.

It's part of why I was really interested in Draper as a FA in the upcoming off-season if he was decently cheap (though post-Achilles, I pass). The only club that was clinging to that model in recent years was Essendon and it's not a set up conducive of good ruck performance.

The fact we played pretty poorly, quiet games from some of our better players in Dawson, Rankine, Soligo and Neal Bullen and still managed a win can only be a good thing. Especially so when the A graders from Port, Butters, Rozee and Wines and to a lesser extend JHF all fired.

They played well, we played shit and they still couldnt win, they are cooked without Butters.

Was thinking the same thing today, we should thrash them in the next Showdown later in the year.

All their prime movers had great games and as ABAB said even Finlayson played out of his arse. They won't get anymore out of their best 4 play makers - even got a Monfries bounce goal and they still couldn't get over the line.

Whereas our prime movers were well below average, we won't get any less out of our 4 play makers ever again.

A lot of our players were down compared to their's, even DBJ and Finnalyson looked good for them.

He most definitely is, I actually think his recent haircut is going to get him less frees.

Him and butters are the kings of dropping the knees and flinging the head back.

I mean we don't want to have to rely on Riley to have to win us games too often (ie we want the load shared), but to now have a genuine monster key forward that can take big contested marks and hit the scoreboard and win games for us is almost a luxury

It was really obvious that we had Port on toast in that last qtr. Then our stupid campaigner of a coach simply panicked and went way too early in shutting it down.

Now, I think they learn from that.

But after hearing Nicks talking like a politician this morning (saying a lot without saying much at all), it’s prob likely the players are just confused. All the time.

Hands down the worst coach in our history.

7 Zak Butters PORT
3 Miles Bergman PORT
2 Josh Worrell ADEL
1 Mark Keane ADEL

Hmmm.....

Which effectively means there is a lot of upside.

Collingwood also won yet didn’t dominate the stats. And that makes for an intriguing match this week.

Wow, what an amazing coach.

Crows lose the stats but win the Showdown.

Nicks is so clueless.

Not really. We want to be going through Thilthorpe as much as possible, he is the club-defining talent after all. The challenge for Adelaide is getting the number of shots up to 5-7 per game, which puts TT in position to challenge for the Coleman and tear teams apart on the regular. He's at 4.1 per now. The good news for us is Fogarty was born to be a foil for a star key forward.

But really, the statement was more about hitting those extra 2 goals early from Thilthorpe probably deflates Port, and seeing how unreliable they are, it's a good chance they regress into an easy-kill from the hot start. Whereas we kept the game alive by our early wastefulness/ill-discipline and nearly got punched in the throat by Butters/Wines as a reward (though thankfully, Port saw our wastefulness as a challenge).
