Even if he'd played well in the VFL this week (but no one lists him in the better couple of players), I don't see where Poulter would fit. Buku has the flexibility to play forward or back (better as a forward) and the (very) occasional pinch hit at CBs as a ruck. I've never been sold on Poulter tbh, and with Darcy and Naughton, then West, VDM, McNeil (or Garcia, unlikely after only 2 games back), and Kennedy, Bont and Joel F rolling forward, how/where does Poulter fit?

Poulter is the very definition of a depth player. Could possibly string a couple of decent games filling is as a third tall or wing if we are depleted otherwise VFL.

One thing that was impressive in the VFL was his leadership and direction that you don't really notice at most grounds but at tramways you are right on the fence

From last nights team the players who are not locks for the rest of season are.

Coffield would not be in my team need Jones back
JJ Seems to be a light of other days
Hynes Will be player but not ready yet.
McNeill Enough has been said but seems to be a favourie
Harmes Nearly a lock but does put in too many bad ones
VDM I think he has been a lot better this season but like Harmes to many quite ones
Bulu Would be a lock in my team unless JUH comes back

Bramble until last night was marginal but think he is lock now.

JJ might not be the player he was but he is certainly a lock. He will build form and there is nobody putting any pressure on him.

Time to blood someone?

Would have just made one change / Khamis in and McNeil out and Garcia in.

But - Was interesting to watch Khamis when he came on. Was at the game and he was right in front of us. He could have made a real impact but he just won’t go for the ball. Great in open space leading out but had at least three opportunities to just go for it and he stops back and waits / no aggression. Same problem he used to have and the move back was helping a lot but seems to come back.

I think our best team has him in it but he has to fix this - he can literally jump small buildings - so if he throws himself at contests he can give us the space we need. Sydney double teamed Darcy all day and weren’t made to pay for it - it worked even after losing McCartin and then Rampe that could have cost them the game.

Forward line should be:

Khamis Darcy West
VDM Naughton Harmes

Hynes on int.

Hynes goes every time - he just has a real competitiveness about him. And he is developing beautifully before our eyes.

After Libba then West - Harmes was the most competitive when the heat was on / really lifted the team and is getting back to his early form.

Mids looking good.

Backline has a few cracks - Coffield seemed OK? But looks like he is not there - focussed on defence but was absent rebound wise and his kicking is slow and easy to intercept bd Williams, Dale, JJ or JOD who put a lot more speed on the ball. Duryea is a better player but isn’t a longer term solution anymore. Coffield “should” be if injury free. But our best team has Jones in it and would rather play JOD as third tall (understand he is developing really well and has had one bad game - which I am fine with) but right now best defence is:

Dale Lobb Williams

JOD Jones JJ

Int: Bramble

Give Jones didn’t play VFL (does anyone know why?) maybe Buss gets a go?

But north mix is different and we probably should keep as is

  • Lobby to Larkey
  • JOD to Darling
  • Williams to Zurhaar
  • Coffield to Curtis

Feels right.

So only changes - Khamis in. García for McNeil but through Sub.

Meant to say - who I would blood? Can’t make it work? Jacques has been pressing. He was OK in VFL but not as good as previous / he is a but slight and too easily pushed off. Walker was brilliant but ran out of puff and needs a few games. Selwood was injured.

Garcia was good again - seemed to slow at the end - maybe was disheartened when Poulter called off to rest for AFL?

Poulter and Gardner were great again but can’t see why they would work now after very recent AFK games that exposed their weaknesses

Harry Sheezel will undergo scans on a shoulder concern picked up in yesterday’s loss to Hawthorn

If Sheezel is out, Wardlaw was concussed and 5 day break for the Roos this one should be a percentage booster even if Tim does not play. 100 Plus win will gives about a 7% boost in percentage and if it comes down to the crows and us for top 4 this is important, they have a 4% advantage before the tigers game.

TBH i like to see JUH back in the side he can be a star if you like ,Mcniel can be hot band cold ,Harms if gets going he can be damidgeing when he gets going What Hynes needs is a full game in the midfield

If these players are under injury cloud then we have too wait and see but yes percentage boost should us top 4 now that's with out me getting carried away any thing

Vandemeer needs a run at VFL level. He’s just not up to it, neither is McNeil.

Harmes wasn’t great. Nor was JJ.

What should happen:
IN: Garcia, Buss, Poulter
OUT: Vandemeer, McNeil, Harmes/JJ

What will happen:
IN: Baker
OUT: Khamis
I don’t know you can come to the conclusion that Buss should be in after his poor VFL performance

If Tim doesn’t play do we blood Smith or does go first Darcy ruck ?

Can’t see many other options apart from Lobb but prefer him back

Tim did not play against North last season in round 23 las t season and Rory moved to the ruck Smith would get monstered against Xerri.

I’d still be giving Smith a game in that scenario. He’s playing reasonably well and it’s impotent to provide him with an opportunity if it presents itself.

Our other options in Lobb & Darcy would be on the field anyway so if he’s getting monstered then we have options.

Start Buku as sub again as he can cover either end if Smith needs to be subbed off.

Romantic as it would be to imagine Lachie Smith coming in for an injured English and giving Xerri some brave competition I just can't see it happening and I don't think we should take that risk. It could turn out to be a catastrophic selection error if Xerri - possibly the best tap ruckman in the league - went to town.

I'd much rather Smith was debuted against a weak team (North WCE Richmond) in a support role such as an extra tall in defence and given just a few rotations through the ruck to see how he fares. Then at a later date we would have a better sense of how he'd go if we had to give him the #1 ruck duties.

I wonder if Libba could play as a small defender against Curtis. Likely their most dangerous forward, if libba could keep him within arms reach I think he'd do well

Curtis would have him for speed over the course of the game

Jones was said to be out with general soreness but then on twitter with calf strain
