The Rachele decision to be subbed off was definitely interesting. I wonder if he sustained some minor niggle that fans aren’t privy to? Considering he’s been in hot form in recent weeks. Doesn’t seem to fit with any of the past trends to sub off one of our best players very early on in the second half.
He had a bad corkie the other week but to be fair there were a few times he didn't chase, stopped chasing and let someone else take over or didn't put in a second effort today.

Nicks mentioned it in the presser that they thought the game was won, and it was managing soreness. We did similar with Thilthorpe against West Coast Sydney*, so not the first time at least.

If it's for that, I'm willing to let this one slide.

*Surprised I got that one mixed up.

I missed seeing the first half, that’s why I was surprised to see him being subbed off. It really does make sense that he’s likely to be off the pace with some niggles.

There was a short bit of footage of them (Nicks & Rachele) walking off of the ground together talking with Rachele smiling at the end. I doubt there is much it beyond being managed

No I meant we rarely sub off an in-form player of prior weeks early in the 2nd half. Because it doesn’t make any sense to do so.

Yup, even at 3 quarter time, Rash seemed to have put away feeling aggrieved. Not that I blame him, these games can be the difference between having a stat line that gets you an AA jumper or not.

Good:
  • Curtin has arrived. The first of many BOG performances to come. Will be a star.
  • Filthy a marking beast
  • Worrell has to be in AA consideration
  • Maxy with his best Shane Ellen impression

Bad:
  • Tex is proper cooked.
  • Richmond
  • The crowd

Ugly:
- Tom Lynch. Probably 3 seperate incidents that should be looked at by the MRO. Being ignored is the incident with Butts was the SECOND TIME he attempted to roundhouse punch him in the head. He did it about 5 minutes earlier too, but failed even more miserably. If the AFL is serious, it’s a month off minimum. If he connected Barry Hall style, it would be 10.

It seems about par with how we've used the sub in blowouts. Though there seems a bit of a bias towards small forwards getting pulled earlier than key forwards.

Rankine had 42 minutes on the bench after being subbed against Essendon
Thilthorpe 31 minutes against Sydney
Taylor had 48 minutes against West Coast.
Rachele 49 minutes against Richmond
Tex had 46 minutes against Saints
Nankervis had 41 minutes against Carlton.

It is quite possible that we saw one or two poor chases and decided to pull the plug knowing soreness was there. We seem much more proactive with managing our star players in blowouts compared to recent years (though, there weren't many)
