2.2 and 16 disposals is a pretty good return from an ageing key forward, sure Walker is turning the ball over a bit and struggles to put forward defensive pressure on but the return is there, I’m not sure who you replace him with and how does Fogarty go if he’s got a better defender or double teamed? I’m not sure this can be answered until Walker is rested for a couple of games or retires.

Maybe he should have told Josh and it didn’t come as a complete shock to him, also a bit of a coincidence the role Murphy played was the same as Rachelles
Why should he consult with Rachele? It's not a democracy. Perhaps he saw Rachele baulk a couple of times instead of chasing and added that to the knowledge he pulled up sore after training. He had the luxury of being able to take him off because the game was essentially won when he did. Some of you were speculating in the game day thread that Michelanney was played forward so that he'd be the easy sub for Murphy. Well that didn't happen... so then you get pissed off at something else.

He just has to adapt and play to his strengths NOW rather than what he once had.

It was interesting at the game, and particularly in that first quarter when we appeared to have NO forward structure AT ALL. Tex took it on himself to try to choreograph traffic in the last ten minutes or so (you could hear him barking instructions pretty easily because of the lack of Richmond supporters making noise). We looked much better in the forward structure department from that point on in the game.

I recall it was Dawson's idea to go to Nicks and request time in the middle.
I could rubbish Nicks for not seeing either move, but he gets kudos from me (surprised?) for going with the player and admitting it.
I'm mildly surprised, but not sure if it makes him a worse or better coach in your opinion or if the two facts neutralise it.
Butts has got the stoopid long-fringe haircut (and a Lynch-fist imprint on the back of his head now too :madv1:).
I enjoyed the fact Jordon was laughing as he lay on the ground having milked an easy free kick.
Well, except for MM? :sneaky:
Yep, beautiful kicking action.

Yes, it isn’t a democracy but given what occurred last year between these two, this just adds to it.

Personally, reckon numbnuts had decided pregame who was going to get subbed.

And giving Murphy 4 CBAs in just over a quarter. What is that about?

The awkward part about this is T Murray and Welsh are injured and Burgess is not really the same type of player as Walker. Less of a lead up forward and more of a contested marking forward. He's basically a depth version of Thilthorpe.

Someone raised an interesting idea of trying Nick Murray up forward. Bloke can demolish a pack and take a good grab. Could be worth developing Murray as a swing player for when Tex departs. Keep Butts in the team.

Nicks has accountability for selection. It's not like Murph is being selected against his will because he's bending the knee to a panel of people that work underneath him.
Same applies in reverse though - there's nothing to suggest that this is just Nicks' call and that the rest of the selection committee are in violent opposition. They are collectively responsible for the stupidity of selecting Murph.

Lol, if Rachelle was sore you’d think he would look so pissed off? My comment referred to maybe he should have consulted with Rachelle and told him he was sore. Clearly the fact Nicks had to get him on the phone and explain it gives it away.

Who said Max would be the easy sub call for Murphy?

He is 22 years old. I am sure he can finish a game out. If not then he was too sore to play

Because its Nicks
He's a valuable resource. Like, super valuable.
We're smashing the 2nd bottom team and rest him for a quarter. I have no problem with that.

Could similarly have done it with anyone else, sure.

Head coach has the final say. Have you listened to his selection pressers where he pumps up the senior players and talks down the younger ones? Murphy’s selection clearly fits in with how Nicks wants the side to look, it’s on him.

It's gone mainstream.

Can't see Murph retaining his spot this week (famous last words, I know)

Interesting that this is raised by professional commentators and not fans (who supposedly know nothing).

Now is the club going to have a dip at ESPN (Owned by Disney).

Perhaps they will ban Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

Don't think anyone's absolving Nicks of blame. The conversation is more around what role the broader selection committee play in this, and what level of responsibility they have. Some would have us believe that Nicks is selecting guys like Murph in spite of huge opposition from the selection panel, when there's no evidence to suggest that this is the case.

If the selection panel as a collective were doing their job properly, Murph should not be getting games - it's that simple

Imagine if it was the other way round and Nicks has been trying to get rid of him for years?

Not good enough. It's just stubborn willfulness and laziness on some of your parts. You've gotten into such a bad habit of hating on Nicks and our Club in general, that you've forgotten how to enjoy it! Honestly it is just so ****ing depressing coming onto this board AFTER A WIN!
Is someone making you do it?

bigman reported previously that Rachele was absent from the Match Sim this week. This may be consistent with the soreness/management narrative.
