Balta probably needs to go forward ay
Dusty &co were also young players and probably didn’t have much talent around themWas looking at round 1 2017 recently.
Butler played very well, as did George. They were helped enormously by the quality players around them. Dusty could have kicked a simple goal but handballed to Butler instead for his first ever AFL goal.
If those 2 players began their careers this season, I doubt they would have succeeded at AFL level.
The support they received from the experienced A graders when they began their AFL careers was invaluable.
Has me questioning the wisdom of throwing all the newbies to the wolves. I realise we probably didn't have a choice given all the champions who retired since 2020, but with the likes of Taranto and Hooper not offering much support to the kids, I am concerned that we are ruining rather than developing AFL players by playing them in the depleted seniors too soon and for too long.
The sporadic senior appearances by Prestia, Balta and Lynch exacerbates the problem.
It is putting enormous pressure to perform on everyone at the club, none more so than the new draftees.
Will this make them or break them..............

No brainer. Our backline is fine. Blight and Miller with Broad as 3rd tall. If Geelong go tall then bring in Young who had a great game in the VFL.Balta probably needs to go forward ay
Ross got 23 possessions and most of them went to advantage. He is a very creative user of the ball and strong in the contest. He should be in the middle most of the time rather than the 3 usuals. It is going to come to a crunch when McAuliffe, Lalor, Hotton and with a bit of luck Smillie come into the side. There is no room for all of Hopper, Prestia and Taranto and those mentioned above. Something has to give as those 3 are awful users of the ball. (Prestia has been good but age is not on his side).
Banks is our new Houli, Rioli HB who times his run perfectly to receive the handball so that he is at full tilt running forward when he gets it. So much better than Short in that regard. Just need Brown to start backing himself as well. Attack comes from half back these days so Brown needs to be given more licence to leave the defensive 50.
When Lalor, Hotton and Algar are all in together, our forward line will be so much more potent. All three are good in the air, read the play like natural forwards and are quick. Green has lost all confidence, Sonsie is slow and does not put his head over the ball, and Mansell is not a forward.
Adelaide is a very good side on the rise and I feared for a real pasting before the game. 70 odd points is a pasting, but it wasn't one way traffic. Until we sort out our midfield, and injuries to Lalor and McAuliffe and Ross being squeezed forward hasn't helped, we are going to struggle against the top sides. Papering over cracks when we play avarage to poor sides because our midfield can hold their own.
If Lynch got just half the umpire calls other forwards from opposition clubs get, he won't be so frustrated.
the man gets no support, 2 defenders hanging off him each week and the umps don't give a damm.
He's not sooking, he's frustrated!
Well he's a mid not a half forward where he was spending most of the game. Last two weeks he's been put back in the midfield and much better. He was still behjind Prestia, Hopper in Taranto, but hopefully not this week. Hopper can start on the benchGood to see…a few weeks back he was putting in very ordinary performances
How shit is Ross when Taranto, Hopper, Prestia are in front of him, the midfield is diabolical .Well he's a mid not a half forward where he was spending most of the game. So shit that he showed upstaged them two weeks in a row when Yze finally put him back in there. Even then he was missing for the start of each Q and for long periods. It's not about Ross, it's about how Taranto, Prestia and Hopper are given green card every week no matter how we are travelling. How shit is Ross when Taranto, Hopper, Prestia are in front of him, the midfield is diabolical .
I do and he's shitSo shit that he showed upstaged them two weeks in a row when Yze finally put him back in there. Even then he was missing for the start of each Q and for long periods. You obviously don't watch the games or you would make such a statement.
Well he was head and shoulders above every other of our mids on the weekend, so that makes them even shiter.I do and he's shit
Why bring Rioli back in. Yse will just play him on the flank and he will get to watch Hopper Taranto and MacIntosh kick the ball to his opponent, then everyone on here will scream that he failed just like Sonsie and Green and want him dumped again.3 ugly performances in a row, time to swing the axe I reckon.
Out: Lynch, Lefau, Sonsie, Green, Mcintosh
In: Sims Short Lalor Rioli Tresize
What is your opinion of Hopper Taranto MacIntosh and Prestia and should we keep them.I do and he's shit
758 times bitten 759 times shy what with them throwing Lefau into an afl game“Sam passed all of his tests last week, but we made a decision that the best thing for him going forward for his long-term career was to just get a few more football exposures before we throw him back into AFL football,” Serpell said.
Maybe Lalor sits out the year in order to get some exposures
I don't know what you base your assessment on. Adelaide tore us to bits on turnover and the two biggest turn merchants were Taranto and Hopper. I only watched the match on TV, but the number of times Hopper and Taranto got the ball out of clearance and kicked it to an Adelaide player was incredible. We would almost be better not to have those two not win the clearance. He IS a good midfielder at VFL level. He was not at any centre bounces that I recall, but he was at stoppages in the backline and forwardline so it is safe to say he was playing onball compared to previous games where he was predominantly full time forward.
Take sonsie out of the side and the margin would still have been 10 goals. Take Taranto or Hopper out the side and it would be closer to 100 points. I've seen enough of Sonsie and I'd much rather see Prestia sign up for another year.
Macintosh and prestia , finishedWhat is your opinion of Hopper Taranto MacIntosh and Prestia and should we keep them.
Or we could try something different, even for short periods. Unlucky with MacAuliffe, and I won't mention Ross, but why not throw Mansell in there to see what he can do. You couid go really left field and put Balta in to bust things up a bit.Macintosh and prestia , finished
Hopper , Taranto we have to keep unfortunately untill Lalor, smillie, hotton, maculf are ready,
I think that's why they have in at half because he is one of the few that is capable of kicking the ball inside forward 50 to the advantage of the forwards.Have to give it to Ross he doesnt panic. So many of our players had the fumbles and just wanted to make the ball someones elses problem. Ross at least takes it upon himself to make things happen.
Why?How fast is Shorty?
Could they throw him in the midfield mix as an outside runner/kick i50 type? Our midfield is already shite so could be worth an experiment?
coz our midfield is slow as **** and absolutely useless ATM. we need some outside runners and a change upI think that's why they have in at half because he is one of the few that is capable of kicking the ball inside forward 50 to the advantage of the forwards.
Why?
