Sorry to do this, but it's hardly bragging.

Not having played for about 5 years, in my first C-Grade game with a new Club:
--- I didn't get a bowl (although picked as a bowler; the Captain ignored me, the newbie)
--- made a duck off 3 balls
--- dropped 4 catches
Count them, FOUR     , all in slips off one bowler, a 40yo Club hero who threatened to kill me (nice!) and had to be held back after I dropped the 4th one.

Immediate nickname, Nacker (NACA, Not A Cricketer's arseh*le).
Strangely, when I was selected again; the Club hero quit, in protest/disgust.
In his absence, I took 6-for and was off and running.

I'm surprised that:

(a) they let you play in the slips in your fist game; and
(b) they left you there after your first couple of drops.

Great story though.

I had trained well during the week in slips practice.
I actually could catch, just not on that day. To be fair, only one dropped catch was a sitter but still ... four.

Yes, very odd. I was about 24 and too dumb to ask to be moved.
Great story though.
It gets weirder. I was promoted to B-Grade (as a bowler) 5 games later and 3 games into the next season I was playing A1 Turf.

Poor bastard Konstas --- doesn't bowl, batted poorly and dropped two catchable balls at slip that could have handed Starc his sixth wicket, before some sloppy ground fielding allowed a costly single.

"Costly" because it let the Windies go from 26 to 27, dodging the equal-lowest score in Test history.
On the plus side is Kiwis still hold the record

For all the criticism of the Green selection, he actually ended up with the 3rd most runs this series (out of all 25 players). He ended up well ahead of Webster in 4th and only 3 runs behind Carey in 2nd.

Boland is a very unlucky cricketer in that he would be one of the first picked in basically any other side in the world.

Boland is doing well now, but it’s taken a long time to get there. Didn’t peak until 30 and keeping the load light seems to help

Pink ball and minnows, his favourite combination.

Not so good with the red ball or against decent opposition.

Probably ranks up there with Hayden’s 380 for credibility.

You don't get 400 wickets striking at what he does if you're 'not so good with the red ball or against decent opposition' you ignorant clown.

321 wickets, averages 29.52, strike rate of 51 with red ball.

In India, 53 average and 89 strike rate
In NZ 43 and 63
In UAE 53 and 100
In Pakistan 34 and 77

Funny, only away against West Indies and Sri Lanka does he have ‘elite’ figures

The one-series sample sizes in each of those four places aside from India are very definitive

I feel like you learn a lot about someone if you drop a catch off their bowling, I mean no one means to drop them of course, it's part of cricket, look after your team mates etc.

And yeah in park cricket you get moved up a grade maybe because of your batting but there's a pecking order. I got moved up to C grade, you'd assume for batting because I never bowled, and slotted in at 10, I made a shithouse 8, thanks ha ha

Green is a very cool and calm cricketer, I feel like he could work himself into a variety of roles. I do believe he's more of a top order player than middle order, his technique is as good as any I see from current Aussies. I mean until a Pucovski comes along we need to be flexible with the top 3 unfortunately.

I’m not sure where the narrative that Green can’t be our number 3 for the foreseeable future has come from.

When moved up to 4 in NZ he was exceptional, and he’s now had a really good series in the Windies batting at 3.

From memory most of his Shield runs came higher up the order. I think he is clearly better suited to spots 3-4 than 5-6.

Long term, I think he’d be better off at 4, but if they want to keep Smith there than 3 is the second best option.

Does anyone else think that Starc is actually kinda underrated? 400+ test wickets and he seems to be critiqued more than praised.

For me he has gone past Lee and Johnson.

I think the criticism comes from that he was fairly inconsistent early in his career and maybe lucky to keep his spot in the team a few times.

The knocks on Green are;

He’s a poor starter because he doesn’t move his feet early in his innings and susceptible to the moving ball, which is why he’s a bit better lower down the order where he is less likely to face a new ball

Like I said earlier, I think his technique is as good as any top order bats in Aus, he's as good a top order bat as we have I reckon. I think from 4-6 you want more of a strokemaker which I don't think he is at Test level. We'll see I guess, he'll get a good crack at first drop I'd think.

Personally, I think he’s the logical replacement for Smith at No.4 as I am led to believe that his bowling going forward may be very, very limited. His innings in NZ says he’s as good a stroke maker as any of them. He’s batting 3, because Labuschagne lost form and there’s no one else. Not because they want him there. Head is locked in at 5, Webster gives them backup and variety at 6. Smith won’t move again until he’s finished.

We’ve still got to find top order players (1-3) and quickly.

I honesty think that Marcus Harris should be given another opportunity as Australian opener. 32 first class centuries at an average of 40. Very good recent form in English county cricket.

Congratulations West Indies - welcome to the Great Wall of Shame - Lowest Scores at Every Level of Cricket
(I wont mention the local teams because they all know where I live)

Modern Test - West Indies 10 wickets for 27
Victorian Turf CA Final 10 wickets for 34 Herald Sun story
Williamstown District CA Final 10 wickets for 32
Williamstown District CA Turf H&A 10 wickets for 13
Lowest Score Ever (Under 12s, Western Suburbs United Churches CA 8 wickets (All out) for 4 - (all runs were extras)

Harris has been batting at 4 in England I think but I would still consider him as a opener as long as he gets runs in the early shield games.
