Walked away from the G tonight pleased with the effort that we put forward against a team aiming to be premiers. Fielding a side with a dozen under 50 games, and giving up over 60 games per player to the Pies in experience we were able to play a decent brand of footy, that gave enough glimpses of what we're trying to implement. We also saw some of the fringe players starting to feel more comfortable at the level, where they started to attempt things they normally haven't wanted to try because they were scared they'd make an error and then find themselves out of the side because of it.

We saw players taking on those 45 degree kicks to get the ball back into the corridor, we saw them running at the opposition rather than being hesitant and unsure, we saw not conceding in our back line, but instead trying to run the ball out at times and sure we made errors while doing these things, but unlike earlier in the year we didn't go into our shells because of them, we instead fought on and then tried it again the next time we had the chance to do it and sometimes it came off, which then breeds confidence to keep doing it.

Getting better at the execution side of the game style we're trying to perfect is going to see us continue to improve and it's why I've been so glad that even when things weren't going well Yze stuck with the game plan and structures he wants to use long term so that we can learn from the mistakes and can then work on what needs to be done to improve at training and in reviews.

The next 4 weeks are going to be fun to watch as we get to take a free swing at a couple of finals contenders and get to try and win a couple of games against fellow bottom dwellers that will only aid in the improvement of the playing group and finishing a year with 7 wins after many media experts predicted we'd struggle to win games will be a great reward for the club and give us a strong foundation to build from heading into 2026.

Seems logical. Not riding him into oblivion like a couple of campaigners in the match thread, but it did appear that Mansell was not lighting it.
Tag, tackle and run off might have been a decent curve ball to throw at the geriatrics in the second half at least.

Thats because the bar is set so high for Umpires to assist Collingwood. We beat them in the Free Kick count, but if the Umps were consistent, there would have been a stat column for "Throws" Sidearse and Mitchell threw the ball more than they handpassed, and one of the Daico's brothers was caught HTB right in front of goals.

Their pressure and execution in the third was the difference.

Left the G thinking the Pies will go out in straight sets. Nearly all sides in the eight would have put them away if the umpiring was like today (not blatantly in their favor). Even the bounce of the ball went their way almost all day.

We are still scrappy and turn the ball over often when coming out of defense - especially on the wings. Loved Faull's attack on the footy and Hotton will be something special. Old heads did well - Vlastuin was incredible, Broad solid and Short had a couple quarters that remind us of his 2020 form. Nank looks tired, and I'd be looking at cycling a tall out each week for the rest of the year. Sonie and Ross did well. Mansell was the player I would have subbed. Needs a spell the VFL.

Give this group 3-4 years, and we will have a very scary forward line. Add Armstrong and Lalor in the mix...

Didn't feel like a loss today - But learnt more that Collingwood would be completely stuffed without either Daicos, - and based on today, they are going out in straight sets.
