Then the trade shouldn't get done, there's no way we can allow ourselves to take unders. I'm sorry - it's on Port to maneuver around and come up with value.
This gets thrown around every year but it just doesn't happen with uncontracted players. We did it with Brad Hill - Freo told us to go and get more than pick 6, so we traded pick 6. They had to settle for pick 10 in the end.

I agree fair value for Nas would be more than 2 first rounders and Port don't have that, but the expectation that they would just go out and get more capital for our benefit when they're negotiating for an uncontracted player is not realistic.

I think the only way Port is incentivised to come up with more is if Nas just says he wants to go to SA, not fussed which club

It does when it's a top 5 player at 22 years old. It's a one of one scenario, this hasn't happened before.

The system is broken, and we have to be prepared for him to walk to PSD if they're not prepared to pay what he's worth.

Honestly if Nas leaves I might be done. Best player we've drafted in two decades, 22yo becomes completely elite mid who looks like he can play in any area of the ground and do anything and he's going to leave? Feel like we may as well give up if this is the case.

Come on, mate, chin up. Club will be fine--we survived Plugger going, Bazzer Hall etc--also i still think he will stay.

Look, I hope I’m wrong… but let’s be real if Nas was going to stay, he would’ve signed by now. The longer this drags out, the more obvious it is that he’s gone. And honestly, I’m over it.

The Saints backed him from day one, developed him into the player he is now. If he doesn’t want to be part of where we’re heading, then he can go no hard feelings, but don’t expect a warm send-off either. The club comes first.

What I really hope is that we play this smart. Don’t let him walk for peanuts. We’ve invested too much into him to just roll over. If he wants out, fine but we better get a proper deal. None of this unders garbage. Play hardball. Top compo, or a ready made gun in return. Otherwise send him to the draft and let eagles get him

I'm sure money is not the issue for the club with Nas and his management, otherwise we would have his signature at this late stage. So it looks like it's deciding the future beyond the next couple of years.. considering football- will the Saints go deep into finals, or being close to family etc.
If a star young player has the chance of playing finals and even a premiership in the next few years, and doing this while being near family, then who could blame them for following that dream?

This is a hollow threat - "I would prefer to take nothing over two first round picks" is an attitude that can only exist on the internet and would make a terrible situation even worse for us

Nah, I am with him. We get screwed by the AFL with NFA's and FS, get screwed with shit fixtures and timeslots, they say do everything right, we do and grab a star at pick 11, and we are about to get screwed over with inadequate compensation.
We are just a feeder club that is not allowed to get better by the AFL.

I dont think I've ever seen so many opposition supporters genuinely want a player to stay at their club like the overwhelming majority seem to want Nas to do.

Neither SA club are going to have adequate picks to get a trade done so it's going to be an absolute sh*tshow if a trade is requested.

I'm hoping if it does eventuate it will effect change and the AFL finally tells the players enough is enough and gives more control back to the clubs like allow trading of players if they don't have a no-trade clause.

Bloody depressing actually.
Broke our all time membership record this season. 64+ thousand.

Forget ever seeing that figure again for a long, long time, if ever, if he leaves.

We won't be fine. Plugger was in the twilight of his career, Hall was nowhere near the level of Nas. You work your arses off to land a guy like Nas and walks literally as soon as he goes elite. Of course the club will be fine but it will set us back a decade in memberships.

Hopefully it's all moot and he signs on but we are ****ed if he leaves.

The clubs need to start fighting back. Stop trading players who signed an extension 12 months ago. Fight for proper value instead of giving in to anything the big managers want.

Nothing will change unless the clubs start taking a stand.

Wonder if he’ll get booed by all Victorian supporters like JHF did

Nas is literally the face and future of this entire rebuild that’s taken us decades. It’s not like he’s only got a couple years left in him.

Him leaving would just make it so much more difficult. At 22 he’s basically carrying the team on his back already.
