It's been said time and time again on here but far out, what an improvement Worner has made this year, felt like he was everywhere on Saturday night, he's a great contested mark nowadays. Would be hard pressed to drop him if we had a fully fit team, cemented himself as Best 23.
Yep, I'd written him off after the Geelong game. One of our most important spoilers/intercepts. Good kick out of the backfield too; not so much when he's aiming at the big sticks. Hope he can improve their too, as he's got the tank and aerial threat to be useful pushing forward - looked nervous as all **** taking his set shots though though.

seemed like we could get nothing going smoothly after quarter time, poor in the contest and fumbly on the spread. poor games from our A graders mostly, but still managed to pull out a win. 11/12, what a brilliant run to be part of!

sweet looked strong af most of the game, jackson was everywhere in the first quarter and then seemed to get hooked once butters got off the leash?

NOD was terribly fumbly and weak in the contest, but i dont think we can bring in sharp can we? ras was good, probably our best mid, still needs to put on some weight i reckon. we clearly missed MJ/Young in there.

amiss was quiet but thought he really threw himself at the footy all day.

clark and Brayshaw both had really quiet games, need them back to their best next week.

+wagner & simpson makes us a better side i think.

He’s now Ryan’s Heir-apparent. Ryan has moulded him into team first, do what it takes backman. He’s absolutely a lock best 22.

the reason why 3qtr comebacks results in either a flag in melbournes case in 1946 and collingwodd 2022 prelim, is because when the whips are cracking, mano a mano the last quarter shows whos better when hey are trying their best.

I normally love Chappy but that missed tackle on Lukosius in the pocket that led to the goal where he got sold candy like a baby was truly awful. You could see Lukosius twist coming a mile away, all he had to do was hone in on the hips.

For some reason that infuriated me more than the Banners kick that I accurately predicted he would kick out on the full, two seconds before he did it.

I know this is not the vent thread and Im actually quite chipper this morning but Worner, you can get up half an hour earlier this week and go down to Cockburn and join the Voss kicking Academy boys. Get with the program, you almost cost us the game. (Otherwise youre doin pretty good, just quietly)

I know Chappies size & the fact he can play tall or small makes him an asset in the back half, but I’d love for him to get up on a wing & free his mind a bit.

He’s clearly not playing to his potential where at his best he is an intercept marker, runs & carries & can kick with good decision making.

With the wing roles as they are currently designed he has all the tools to succeed there.

I think he’s had a few sessions training the role, I’d like for them to revisit it for his sake.

This may be a bit reactive and definitely won't be agreed on by everyone, but I reckon he's gone past Chappy.
Chappy's form has fallen off a cliff and he is playing well below his capabilities. Idk what went wrong or how the club can fix it because he has potential.

It felt like Chapman started the season really well but it seems like he gets caught holding the ball and making mistakes far too often now.

has he ever put together a real run of form though? even one game at a high standard would be pushing it tbh, hes mostly put up good quarters.

a wing move might me a good change up for him. weve clearly not got those spots bedded down, not sure nows the time for that experiment though.

Chappy trying to do too much. He hates losing a contest, does Heath, so this flat spot would be giving him all sorts of mental conturbations.

A few games this year he has killed some pricks while tackling and come off looking a bit sore himself. Maybe he just needs to take a week off, kick back, watch a few highlight reels of himself punching holes in the space-time continuum, spinning out of tackles and smacking campaigners' lights out in tackles. Let the body rest but fill the mind with images of Heath Chapman bossing the shit out of shit. Come back a new man.

The last fk of the game lol. Sweet literally took himself high and should’ve been a holding free to Darcy if anythingView attachment 2391993

There was a point in the game when Aliir got a free in our forwardline for a high that he himself initiated that made it clear that the umps were just paying anything that looked like it might be there, regardless of who initiated contact. Port players took advantage of it all game and it's why the count got so lopsided

Genuine question:

Would it have been better for Alex Pearce to kick a behind, rather than a goal? The clock stopped at 44 seconds. Which is the better scenario:
  • 1 point ahead, defending a kick in.
  • 6 points ahead with a centre bounce.
I wonder if we'll ever see a situation in the AFL where a player deliberately misses a set shot in a close match to avoid a 6-6-6 CBA. I think it makes sense to do so if there's less than 30 second on the clock.

Always kick the goal.
Unless you’re Melbourne, worst case is likely a draw. You kick a point, 44 seconds is a long time to defend without proper structure. At least 6-6-6 they have trained the scenario a hundred times everyone is on the same page.
On defending a kick in you can practise it but there are far more variables to try & defend that you have no control over.

If you really wanted to take an option like that, but you’d have to be a point in front, you’d kick it out on the full if you weren’t confident of kicking the goal, that way you can slow the resulting kick in & make them kick up the line which is easier to defend.

A draw is ok, our percentage sucks any way.

A loss would have been a disaster.

Under 10 seconds left then a point would probably be better.

Hmmmm they backed themselves in to win the clearance with Darcy just smashing clear to the wing...

Risky but ce off. But the last time they did that against the bombers it didnt
