More would need to go. Like potentially Webster retiring.

Incomings: TDK Aleer Ryan FRP Fincher

Paul Amy practically saying we are taking Campigli and looking at Voss.

+ Ted Wanganeen

Sorry, forgot to say Webster as well. Maybe Schoey and Moose will be up for trade? I assume both have value though Dees may wait for us to delist Moose

Young Guy #6 and Port Patriot could jump the fence 🤣
Oh man I hope it gets announced that Academies and father sons are in the bin for the first round.

Would be delicious to see more melting of our new friends.

I’d hope Arie gets another year, I think he needs to not be a defender. Could be a weapon as a half forward if he builds his tank and his marking improves. Lot of ifs but hopefully gets another year
We've got plenty of athletes who can't kick, why would we want to remove the guy who isn't an athlete but can kick?

Give him a chance to improve, he hasn't had much of a run at it.

If Webster retires Voss nearly needs to be a lock. Defends really strongly in back half, can lock down dangerous smalls but can also take a mark. Beautiful distributor by foot. Think he'd be an upgrade on Stocker.

A few of them already appear anxious about access to this kid 😄

When is the tv rights deal up? I suspect the next one will be worth much less money, given they (likely) wont have Foxtel coming to the table for the next one.

Can’t see Stan(channel 9) paying that sort of money either.

Can see the caps going backwards in the next 10 years
I think you can count Amazon, Paramount and Apple (maybe even Netflix) in as new bidders here and DAZN the new owners of Foxtel value sports very highly. I doubt the cost of the rights goes down, I would guess it's up by about 20% based on what's happening overseas.

The current rights deal expires in 2031. Considering how much has changed in the media landscape in the last 5 years, it's completely impossible to predict what the marketplace will look like in 2031. Foxtel coming to the table will greatly depend on DAZN, who bought the company for their sports properties (because the widely held belief, worldwide, is the only way to make money in streaming in 2025 is through live sports). The partnership between Foxtel and DAZN has only just begun, so we have no way of knowing what that will look like in 5 years time.

I'd be more worried about free-to-air television and whether it still has a place in the sports media landscape OR the money to compete in 2031. There is some hope that streaming advertising (on platforms like 7plus, 9Go) will offset the losses on free-to-air - but the major FTA channels are still facing an uphill battle. Channel 7 only posted $17 million in profits (on an over $1 billion dollar investment) the last financial year - which was a 63% drop from the year before. Traditional TV seems to be dying.

My guess is the next rights negotiations will be dominated by streamers (as we've seen with all international sports) and it's likely the entire AFL fixture will be paywalled from 2031 onwards.

DAZN are trying to get out of the current deal that is already signed, given they don't value it.

Can't see any of the others bidding as high as Foxtel used to, but maybe I'm wrong. It has little international appeal
