this is something i would have tried to keep a secret. Name Michalaney in the back pocket, with Bond on the bench

Collingwood aren't stupid, they would know that we have no reason to select Bond if we were planning to use Max as a defender based on prior history; equally they'd remember the Richmond game. Every club has access to advanced stats, and those stat sheets tell you neither offer much offensively at the moment, in a league where offensive output from your D50 is worth its weight in gold. Especially in a matchup where you have history of suffocating the oppositions ball movement game.

It's a big win for Collingwood if we do go that route, and they know it, seeing they get their most dangerous forward (albeit one who is horribly out of form) against a lesser defender for us wasting one of our best players on something that on the balance of things, probably doesn't achieve anything. Though it may not be a bad thing for us, owing to how useless our last selected forward has been.

I think Pedlar needs to come in, he draws free kicks and tackles up forward. 8 touches and a goal would be the kind of game we want (with a few tackles).

Dowling did well against North and fits our structure on the wing if Curtin moves into the middle.

I'd really like to have Laird and/or Keays rotate through the middle, Laird is in really good form around contest especially.

Keays is just built for finals contests.

It comes down to Smith or Bond in my mind. Bond on Elliot scares me... Smith doing anything under pressure scares me...
Like this. Pedlar if fit is a hard nosed footballer we need in finals. Dowling didn’t do much wrong. Laird in the middle a definite possibility if they get on top. Max back. Smith’s experience might give him the edge as a sub

I like the fact that Billy can find the ball, unlike most of our fringe players.

Billy played predominantly on the wing.
  • His first goal was an uncontested mark achieved by hard running from the wing ✅
  • His second goal followed dropping his head and spilling an uncontested mark (luckily given a free).
  • He was mostly opposed to Dylan Stephen’s who caused us plenty of damage
  • He looked very panicky in his clearance work.

I think the stats flatter him so I think he is 50/50.

yeah he's not locked in but he benefits from being the main additional midfield option at the moment.

Think we only have 26 players vying for a finals spot (unless injuries happen) only other fringe players competing against him are Taylor, Pedlar and Bond who don't look like taking up any serious mid/wing time.

Smith maybe but he plays better as the Sub.

If Bond performs well and Billy doesn't, I wonder if we roll the dice with Max as an extra mid once Rachele comes back.

Scratch match at training. Rachele and Ryan are doing running, no sign of Edwards.

A team - Keays, Berry, Curtin, Thilthorpe, N Murray, Dawson, Walker, Soligo, Michalanney, Hinge, Worrell, Peatling, Neal-Bullen, Laird, Milera, Fogarty, Bond, O’Brien, Cumming, Keane

B team - Jones, Murphy, Pedlar, Welsh, Cook, Taylor, Burgess, Schoenberg, Nankervis, Dowling, Smith, Draper, Borlase, Gallagher, Drury, Sholl, T Murray, Butts, McAndrew, Strachan

Max played forward and looked very sharp.

20 in that A team so three to come in. Smith looked sharp and deserves a spot. If max plays forward that keeps Bond in, so hopefully Taylor gets a gig ahead of Murphy as Max would get the Josh Daicos job. You would think it’s out of Dowling or Pedlar for the last spot.
I would go Dowling as fit & we need the extra wingman who can OK play forward.

So based on the great man bigman report...

In: Max
Out: Draper

B: Bond, Murray, Keane
HB: Milera, Worrell, Laird
C: Cumming, Dawson, Curtin
HF: Michaelanny, Fogarty, ANB
F: Walker, Thilthorpe, Keays
R: O’Brien, Soligo, Peatling
I: Hinge, Berry, Dowling, Taylor
Sub: Smith
E: Burgess, Nankervis, Pedlar

Wild thought. I’d be seriously considering moving curtain into centre square to win this flag
I like the idea of some kinda surprise in the centre, but maybe not Curtin>
The Coaches have more inside info than us.
I hope they're planning something that will make Collingwood shuffle some deck chairs.
The current mid set up ain’t gonna get it done
I agree.
Our defence is under immense pressure from the Clearances imbalance and has done a stellar job for most of the year.
If we get close to breaking even on Clearances our Defence will stop them but out forward efficiency should provide a win.
I agree, we’re gonna need some Blighty-type coaching masterstroke moves to win it.
I dunno if Nicks even knows Blighty but I'd be giving him a call to sound out some ideas or get something off-the-wall from him.
In the clinches Curtin’s not even close to being ready to do it either though?
He runs both ways off his wing so looks like he has the tank.
Would being in the midfield trenches curtail his marking power? It's been a huge asset for us.
A guy with Milera’s in-close evasive skills could be a good move to the midfield though.
I've been wrong about Milera and wanted him dropped after 4 or 5 games, but he has come good and grown in confidence; great to see.
You're right, he's good when he has the ball at getting out of congestion-trouble but can he hunt the ball in the claustrophobic tightness of a Clearance pack?
The break will have done all of Dawson/Soligo/Berry/Peatling some good but, yeah, we need some kinda Wild Card to surprise Collingwood with.

Surely if Pedlar was going to be named as an emergency, he would've been named in the SANFL for valuable match conditioning

My gut says Dowling doesn't make it to the line

If Dowling goes out I feel it's a big mistake. Provides flexibility as a forward, high forward, wing or mid and actually finds the footy.
Yep

Someone who can bob up with a goal or two is crucial with Rankine out

I think he is the right choice as sub, comes in behind the ball and we have enough coverage up the ground if it is a forward of center player that is subbed. He can still break lines and kick long, but is able to also hit a target at distance if he lowers his eyes.
I like the romance of having Smith as sub. Missed our last tilt at it due to his knee injury. Deserves a crack and this will be his last year.

Yeah I would be surprised. Nicks favours Pedlar. However, Dowling could be babysitting Racheles role so rather than to bring in players for one game he may just back in Dowling.
