Dawson was okay, but ****ing hell you’re asking a lot when they are locking down on him, and the rest of our mids let a guy like Newcombe waltz around the stoppage doing whatever he wants.

I take back any defence I’ve made of ROB. He’d better be just about on his death bed otherwise that’s completely indefensible what he dished up tonight. How the **** does a professional footballer miss his foot? That one moment sums up his night.

Berry, Peatling, Soligo and Van Berlo have a lot to answer for. There’s no denying we need some extra quality in there, but so much of what happened tonight had nothing to do with ability. For ****s sakes, Newcombe is a gun, and we just let him do what he wanted. Get a bit of campaigner about you as a midfield group. Elbow him, shove him, stand on his feet I don’t give a ****. Make his life hard. Those three players looked like they were scared to touch him.

Nicks. My ****ing god. What are you doing? How did you leave Curtin wasted on the wing, not kicking to him, not letting him in to the centre bounces, for the whole night. You’ve been blessed with this absolute freak of a footballer and athlete, and you’re ****ing scared to use him.

A lot of us said all year, we needed to be trying Curtin on ball, we needed to be playing Dowling, Draper and Edwards, and what do you know, the mids we had ****ing shit the bed.

I’m willing to be patient, and I know the best of this group is still ahead of us, but **** me, there are some obvious mistakes that we keep making. When does this change?

There's a gear good teams go up at crunch time. Pressure is higher. When the going gets tough... we don't.

Reality is we overachieved during the minor round

All of that is true. But we still spent both weeks several metres off/behind opponents.

Maybe it's mental, maybe its footy IQ, maybe it's fitness. Maybe its a bit of everything.

But I watched it closely and we weren't running them down.

This is likely to be the bad sort of finals experience that scars the group.

The guys who played okay and are made for finals will lift a gear and rise to the level, but the duds who were humiliated might shrink and never get back to their best.
