Agree, I was there.

Jarman was huge that day. Kicked a great goal late on.
Was also there. Jarman pulled that forward pocket snap out of his ass late in the last quarter right in front of where I was sitting. Wanted to smash him but had to admire him.

The killer for Geelong that day was not Gaz Snr being suspended (was out of form and had missed half the year) but Billy going off with a hammy in the second quarter. He was our best forward that year, had kicked 8 the week before and was in career-best form.

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda. But all academic now.

NGL:
  • Yes, Hawks fans, you have the chance to give supporters of my vintage a unique kind of trauma. This would make us your bunnies and be even worse than '08.
  • In all honesty? You'd better bring more pressure than you usually do. There's a reason why teams commit the fewest clangers against you. (hint: 51 tackles like last night ain't getting it done against us)

No doubt we're in for a week of people saying "It should be a great game" when it really shouldn't at all. I've got us winning by 45+. There is literally zero reason why this "should be a classic" at all, except that a bunch of games the players are too young to remember.
Geelong are number 1 for pressure acts in the competition and Hawthorn number 2. I think on advanced metrics Hawthorn are top 3, not sure where Geelong is. But to say Hawthorn 'don't bring pressure' is just wrong

Yeah, I actually had forgotten that Billy did a hammy until I watched the highlights before. Did he play in the prelim?

Dawks are easily the most underrated team this season.

For quite a while now the Dawks have been the only team I've been concerned about in this finals series and I was cheering hard for the Giants and Crows.

Geelong should win, but it's not going to be easy and it's far from a foregone conclusion.

The resting of Ginni, Impey and Gunston at the end now makes the last ten minutes of the game make more sense as there were a bunch of Hawks players running on fumes when watching live. Would have been down to one rotation.

No, Billy missed the Prelim, Gaz also still suspended. They both would have been back had we made the GF. But we didn’t. So they weren’t.

1991 was one of my favourite years, even though we couldn't win it all.

We had a 6 goals comeback at Vic Park that season. Gaz retired and then unretired.

Every single final we played was an epic. Especially week one Billy vs Plugger shootout.

Didn’t want this game because hawthorn to use David king’s favourite terminology don’t beat themselves so we can’t afford to be off. Need to sort out our kicking for goal because you just know theyre the sort of team who will come out and ice 6 straight to start the game if we kick 2.7 or something
Jury is still out on our midfield. Adelaide have an even worse spread in the middle than us. Adelaide and Collingwood are without doubt our best match ups out of the top 8. Geelong and Brisbane? Not so much…

Hawks will run out of legs in the second half you’d think. Geelong will be super drilled, fresh, and professional. Then again hawks have nothing to lose so will throw caution to the wind, and, well… these two sides are heart attack central so anything’s possible.
Hawks and Geelong have everything to lose

I’m shocked we are here without Day, given our midfield woes. Next year is completely different IF we can fix the mix. That’s not down playing our chances thats realism IMO.
Nah the free hit talk is pure copium. You see it from some supporters every year. Next year is next year. There are no guarantees and there are no chances that should be wasted.

Hawks will have majority of the neutral support. There might be some exceptions from the Essendon camp.

I can’t remember a time in the last 30 years that neutrals have actively supported Hawthorn. In the 2013 GF I saw tons of head ****ed MCC members wearing purple.

Most neutrals would rather stab their eyes out with a pencil than support one of these teams. The only team I can see neutrals getting behind is the Lions. As for Essendon fans, lol…
