Would swap 3 midfield frees for a 50m as soft as Elliotts. Especially if it’s 60m.
The 50 against Jiath was one of the most obvious 50s to be paid. The opposition player who comes up holding the ball is not allowed to let the ball leave his hand without giving it to his opponent. As soon as he placed it on the ground, he realised it and quickly gathered it.

They are the rules so not sure why Hawk fans are up in arms over it.

A free in front of goals to Freo last season in the last quarter, when a Pies player, while getting up from a stoppage handed the ball to Daicos rather than directly to the umpire cost us a finals spot.

It may be harsh, but that’s the rules.

Rather than whining about the decision, ask why Jiath was so poor.

I think that’s the best the hawks have to offer. A+ for effort for the hawks tonight. Just beaten by a better team.

Hold your heads high

You can't be serious.... how the hell can any 'proud' AFL team have a tackle count of 36 in a poor defeat, then back it up at the same ground (their home ground) with 38 the next week and not only that but their opposition, the Pies have 82 tackles with a 44 deferential, that's BS and you say "hold your heads high'.... surely you must be trolling cos that is effen disgraceful and I'm sure every Hawk supporter would be pissed off big-time knowing that fact, as I'd know if that was my team who put in that disgraceful and unacceptable effort, I would be.

"Hawthorn has seriously struggled in its tackle count in the past few weeks, recording 36 against Brisbane and 38 on Friday night"

How the **** do you win clearances and contested possession and lose by 50
Because we played exactly how Collingwood wanted us to play. It was like the Wicker Man - they were controlling every one of our thoughts and actions. Let a Hawthorn player get the ball, sweat on them, turnover, Pies players all run forward - rinse and repeat.

I feel the team is just unbalanced right now. The defense is too tall, they are playing 2 non marking wingers, they have 3 small forwards who dont tackle. The mix is just all wrong on every line. Hawthorn need to make a ton of changes but then I dont think Sam has the maturity to completely change what he is doing mid season if that makes sense. Changes they need to do is

  • Move Hardwick to defense permanently . They are too tall down back.
  • Move Sicily up forward permanently. Josh Battle took his role
  • Move Karl Amon to HB . Guy is much better with the ball in defense
  • Play Weddle on a wing as a defensive wingmen
  • Chol to play CHF. They need a tall forward presence further up the ground and Chol best suited
  • Play Calesh Dear at FF. Guys too good for VFL

Aside from that just begin dumping players who dont tackle. Nick Watson can 2 goals a game but he is giving up 3 with his insanely poor lack of defensive pressure. Guy should either tackle or go to the VFL til he decides he wants too. Same logic should apply to Connor Macdonald too.

In the end I doubt the above happens and structure stays the same. I see Hawks finishing like 8-10th and this year being a big step back for them

Excellent overall assessment with Sicily still an issue no matter where he plays..... not sure if he's carrying an injury but he's just not the same player.

Hawks advantage over other teams is their players win one on ones a lot. Kicking to contest Hawks tend to win out but Pies literally hand balled the ball away from contests. Pin point transition without letting Hawks use their advantages in contesting. It was blatantly obvious in this game. Hawks caught in the middle of a rock and a hard place.

Id drop Siciliy but its not a realistic outcome. Id essentially just have him out of the backline cos his decision making is so bad. If you are injured also forward is always your best spot to play also

Up forward id more or less play Siciliy as a defensive forward on the intercept marker. A insane waste of money on someone in such a role but thats where has fallen too also

I wonder if that says more about the Pies? In our game, it became clear for whatever reason that if we kicked quickly and long to a marking contest on the wing, our smalls would just swarm all over you. I've never barracked so hard for that specific play in my life, and it's pretty much the sole reason for our comeback when all seemed going against us.

As for the one-on-one stuff, the stats do bear it out. Hawks #3 for contested mark differential, Magpies #14 ... and that may also loop back to the point I made before.

A couple of things...

Credit where it's due - last night Watson and Ginnivan both had situations where they were actually caught high, but they didn't flop. Ironic really, as they didn't get the Free Kicks.
They'd probably argue that that's why they flop - because if they don't, shit umpires miss it. Others would argue that they're both like the Boy Who Cried Would.

But regardless, good on them for not flopping/staging.

Secondly, I seriously think I'd tag Steele Sidebottom ahead of anyone else at Collingwood. Old Tin Arse just keeps getting the pill, making the right decisions and putting the ball exactly where he wants it. What a gun he is.

Damning.... and who would have thought that with the handful of Hawk Hollywood upstarts that they don't like to chase, tackle or bust their gut but love to celebrate goal, then let everybody else know about it.
Ned Long 11 tackles

Newcombe, Worpel, Nash, Ward 13 tackles.

He’s probably the toughest guy to tag.
Endurance has always been off the charts.
He is experienced.
Maybe the most skilful player in the game. Can damage you from both sides of his body.
Only needs half a chance.

Is that surprising considering they way the captain carried on last week after a non debatable free kick. Don't have to read far hear to realise Hawks fans think they are hard done by umpire wise on a weekly basis even with a +60 free kick count over the season.

You can’t drop Sicily.

If he’s carrying an injury, then just put him on the injured list and give him a few weeks or whatever it takes to fix it.

This is assuming he has a injury that wont require season ending surgery. To me it just looks like he is pushing on for such a reason.

Regardless though, even when 100% fit he has been replaced by Battle. His days as a defender are over. If we are to go to a current day player, id play him in that Cam Zurhaar/Cam Rayner/Jake Stringer style half forward role in the long term

Forward line is ****ed

35 year old Gunston
Zero pressure Chol
Witches Hat Wizard

Can’t think of anyone else

Premiership favorites at start of year. How pundits got it wrong….
Pundits also wrote the pies off after 1 game. Year after year everyone forgets how long the season is.
Complete joke.
