Autopsy 2025 Preliminary Final: Hawks get rolled

The umpires reamed us in that second quarter - final result aside there were about 3 calls which resulted in 12 point plays.

That Gunston free kick against the in goal square was criminal.

We would have been 4 goals up with all the momentum.

Instead they take it up the other end and start their come back.

I'm surprised we were not thumped by more. 20-5 centre clearance in the context of the 6-6-6 rule is going to get you heavily scored against. Especially if your opposition forward line includes a player like Cameron.

Umpiring was horrible when the game was up for grabs, but the umps were not winning Geelong those centre clearances (at least not most of them :) ).

Ill never ever understand why Serong never got one look at it this year.
Emergency almost every week.
Has to leave to get a regular game.
And he will.

I don't think Serong is going to help us win clearances unless the Cat's brains trust mistake one Jai for another.

With a literal one man midfield basically all season, I am disappointed that we lost a PF. But they are by far a more experienced, battle hardened Cats team.

Proud of the boys made it this far without Day all season. And improved from last season. But it is clear what the list management needs to address. Midfield midfield and midfield a position list management neglected in the past few trade periods. Need a genuine A grade bull midfielder. And add depth to the midfield. We currently out of the top 10 sides we have the least genuine options in the midfield. We have a lot of versatility with forwards, backs and wings. But no versatility and no depth thru the coalface.

Wizard, Ginni, Dear showed clear improvement this season. Another preseason will see them raise to another level.

Like to see Weddle work on becoming a genuine mid next season.

Not sad that we saw the last of Worpel. Too slow to be a release valve, too small to be an inside bull, don’t have any tricks, too indecisive lack composure when we needed him to stand up.
Good call about the lack of versatility through the midfield.

I think this hurts us just as much (even more?) than our lack of quality in that position.

The fact we were throwing The Wizard in the middle to try and win a centre clearance says a lot about our lack of depth in there.

We were still in it with 6 minutes to go, despite being reamed by the supposedly neutral men, and being down in form.

I disagree wholeheartedly with the "oh well, they played better" sentiment on here. We played more skillfull and pure football early. It went unrewarded by the officials. The game became a physical tustle after that. Our playerrs, not sure if their effort to be skillful was a path to victory, became mired in the fokking cats negative miasma.
What is the future of the game? Skill or cynical foqqwittetry? I know what I hope is the answer. Foq Geelong and their bullshit. That's all.

Fuxk me, Dangerfield plays with different rules to us.

I was listening to SEN for a while. You would think Danger had never had a free in his life and Hawk players infringe all the time.
In the end, I turned them off. Just could not stand the bias.

Cats were extremely hard at it and their little taps and one percenters pushed them forward multiple times. Our miss were very slow to react and often found themselves out of position.

Onto the 4th and we have momentum, until we lose a 3 on 1 contest that leads to a goal. Bloody frustrating.

I do not think one player in our midfield won their position and the majority was well down.

Congratulations to the Cats ... they were simply too good for us. No complaints bar some iffy umpiring that is usual AFL standard unfortunately. Beaten by the better side.

Our midfield needs Merrett, a fit Day and after today's reaming a Petracca type to bring us the premiership we desire.

Also getting scored too easily against by smalls in fwd line reared it's ugly head again. Although ultimately 66 to 40 inside 50's was where the game was lost. Didn't give ourselves a chance.

Hope the burn 🔥 spurs us upwards next year. Many lessons to learn from tonight.

We have had a very good year ... finishing 4th. With some more class in the middle ...that is coming we are as good a chance as anyone next year. Winning 2 interstate finals a great outcome and prelim experience invaluable.

Sun comes up tomorrow Hawkers ... stand straight and proud. We are on the right track.

Nash was awesome.

He can hold his head high. Chol in the ruck also.

We need learn to make our opponents more accountable. Or at least be able to switch between Blitzkrieg attacking football back to man on man tight defensive football. I dont think youre ever going to be a contender until you have the capacity to shift gears like that

He’s a bit of a vanilla player. Doubt we’re losing much.

Great season and lots of great memories.

Midfield has been our Achilles heel all year and it got exposed today which I thought it would.

Can't understand how CJ got to be sub in 3 finals given his performances in all were error ridden. I don't know what he brings to the team, but Sam obviously does.

Would have love to have seen more of McKenzie and HH this year and confused as to why they get dropped after a bad 1/2, never to return, when we sorely lack midfield depth and rotation.

Hopefully we get to see more of Serong next year and hopefully we don't lose all 3.

Umpiring was a disgrace, but you're never going to win a final with a centre clearance count as absymal as ours.

Hopefully Chol isn't suspended for the start of next year. Him firing is crucial to our success and early wins.
