Chris Scott on Danger: “He was born to play Finals!” 😻

I don't even care about the Grand Final. Beating the scum in the Prelim is a season-highlight for me.
I won't go that far, but it'll certainly soften the blow if we can't salute next week.

Any GF loss hurts, but after tonight, it pushes that potential loss into the "Hey, s**t happens. That's life" category rather than the "I'll be in the fetal position all summer" category.

If nothing else, 2025 has finally buried the only trump card Hawthorn supporters had left. It's in the bank.

Still though, we're a huge chance and have more than earned our right to be there.

Bring it on.

Patrick Dangerfield is a generational player and somehow still underrated. He is every bit the class of Buddy, Dusty, Fyfe and dare I say it, our lord and saviour Jr. It's so affirming to see him do what he does, even at 36. I hope he can get the Norm Smith next week, I don't think he will care and it will not define him, but he deserves the recognition. That game tonight was something else.
3 players I just absolutely love watching.
Ablett Snr
Ablett Jnr
Danger - because he is fierce and gives it everything. You know the effort you’re getting with him.

A few thoughts for now may put some more in later.

Our 3 most important players are Miers and Blics and Atkins.
Not saying they are our best but you can't deny they allow us to play the way we want to play and lets Danger, Holmes, Cameron etc do what they do.

Another quick thought about Clark apart from one turn over he was very good and showed he belongs in the AFL.

Selwood to Smith
Hawkins to Neale
Smith to Dempsey
Duncan to Bowes
Tuohy to Humphries
Kolo to O’Sullivan
Rohan to Mannagh
C.Guthrie to Martin
Bews to Mullin
Stewart to Clark

Ridiculous to be playing off for a flag after three years with that turnover.

Absolutely cheating.
Shh Richmond fans will use your post as evidence we cheat :p

Its funny I am seeing Hawks fans online claiming we are a shade younger than the Pies, who are old as ****, and that the cliff is coming, and they are this young and exciting team...

Not much between the average ages, 10 players with less than 100 games vs 8 players so we clearly have guys in the pipeline and nearly as many as them, and then the rest of the stats are either equal or we have 1 more than they do.
Yet they make it sound like its a team of 30 years with 1 or 2 rookies.
Hawks didn't debut a single player this season

I basically sat on my phone in the second half and once it started raining it was getting a little more difficult to type any updates

Hawthorn fans left in different little sub-groups
  • the first set to up & leave did so after Miers goal in the last
  • those who stayed obviously enjoyed that 5/6 minute patch where they kicked 3 goals; Jezza.... 😠
  • but then more left after Stengle's soccer goal
  • before Smith's goal a few minutes later put the rest out of their misery

Always interesting to watch fan groups up & leave early when they've decided their team is done for the match
Some of ours on this thread were ready to do that halfway through the first quarter.

My theory is he got a jab and he will be very sore tomorrow. Hopefully hes less hobbled sam Reid next Saturday and a good contributor.
I thought the same but his mobility did seem to improve the longer the game went, which maybe supports the dead foot theory.

It’s difficult for me to understand + accept.

Footy is like marriage:
For better, or worse,
For richer or poorer, in sickness + in health,
To love + to cherish, till death us do part.

The players, coaches + supporters are devastated. You stay to support everyone.

Still, the 44 year drought was hard.

But since 2007, we’ve had amazing teams. So blessed to be a Geelong supporter + now we’re in another Grand Final 😻

Go Cats 🐈‍⬛
We had some amazing teams in the late 80s and early 90s too, but we just couldn't get over that last hurdle back then.

Anyone have footage of the free kick to Henry in the goalsquare again Gunston? I felt like that was a big moment in the game.

Aso did the team stay in the city or shuttle bus it back to Geelong?

Seriously what a completely classless dickhead. I'd hate to be coached by this tosser. Really hope he never even gets to play his team in a grand final, let alone win one
Just 4 more years will do. Hawthorn have a (at least a Premiership in a decade) streak they want to keep going. He'll be replaced if he's no longer close to one

Here's what Chris Scott or any other professional coach would've said when asked that question:

"Yeah I understand it's a difficult one for the league. I know that we have to put players and their well-being first, and I respect that. I'm also mostly thinking about my team and our fans right now, and it's probably not my place to take an opinion on it. I'm sure if we were the ones being directly affected, we'd have a position on it, but right now we don't really have that anywhere near the top of our priority list."

So yeah - he was asked specifically about the issue, with reference to Tom Stewart, and the words "I don't give a shit" didn't have to come out of his mouth. He's a flog. Incapable of being professional when he's emotional. Maybe the extra context takes some of the mayo off, but not much in my opinion.

He was also asked if he had a tip for the Premiership. Again, if Scott or any other coach was asked that, you'd get something like this:

"Gee, at a moment's notice it's hard to say. The three teams remaining are all fantastic sides and any one of them would deserve a flag. But I'm not much of a tipster, so I'll just let the cards fall where they may, just focusing on our team and our fans right now."

What he said:

"I hope they all lose."

He's a one-eyed tosser.
You've been listening to Chris Scott too long. ;)

Again, this shows the quality of the people we have at the top of our club.

Tactically and strategically, he's got a lot of nous.

But saying shit like this? Complete w***er.
I think Sam Mitchell is mainly Tactical (short-term focus, innovations like practising with footies dipped in soapy water etc.) while Clarko was also Strategic (Clarko'c cluster, booming left-footers to feed a leading Buddy, recruiting Gibson/Lake etc.). Sam recruiting Gunston back raises the question why Gunston was let go in the first place.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sam had promised a shorter turnaround (vis-a-vis Clarko) to a Premiership to trigger that succession. Maybe he is feeling that pressure.

With regards his character traits, I think Hawk coaches have always been "burn bridges" / "take no prisoners" types. The exception being Peter Schwab (probably why he didn't last long).

All: Do correct me. I've always looked at the Hawks like a contagion that needs to be contained!

Indeed.

I instructed her to hold off on prepping that eagerly awaited sammich until after the match because I wasn't hungry enough to warrant risking a Hawks goal.

She waited in the kitchen until the commencement of the game. I commended her for such an exemplary display of dilligence and reassured her that it tasted all the better for it.
Last I heard, men were pilloried for confining women to the Kitchen  #justkidding
