Better than blowing our entire draft hand, he'd be free and he'd sure be better than Francis at least
Yeah ok. You are obsessed with kids. They don't win now. You talk a big game with your posts on the draft and future prospects but you have know Idea of current list analysis or status. We have a window all be it closing now, not in 5 years. Using Francis is complete deflection when you consider the bloke you are comparing him too has fell of cliff quicker than a Red Bull Cliff Diver.

Marshall is likely on his way to the Cats and that will sink their first round pick this year.

Our first rounder this year is also easier to trade up than theirs if they decided to not trade for Marshall.

Lastly it may not just be Florent moving elsewhere, was told it could be a surprising player (Only catch is it is unlikely to be someone who has signed a contract this year, and its not one of our WA boys).

The third year of draft picks (2027) have limited to no value for clubs due to Tasmania, so best to exclude them from discussions.
If signings from this year are out, that means Campbell is out. The two id be watching are Juzzy, OOC next season and Rowbottom who i feel is expendable.

That is IF you believe we are in a window, you may think we are that's fine, I don't see that to be the case at all really. We lucked out last year with a lot of reasons, and still were shown up big time when it counted we just were okay. We aren't going to have an injury list from heaven again.

I'd rather be targetting 1-3 years from now when Brisbane, Pies fall, etc. That's our window. Not as if we have Chris Scott as a coach either

Careful some on here won't like you suggesting Rowbottom lol

We're not getting Greeves.
Interesting that he had consistently ranked well inside the top ten until now. If indeed he does go at 16 (per Twomey) we would be a chance. Most of the other mids in the range seem to be more outside types.
Schubert would be a good KPF get but probably not available. Ludowyke appears to be the only other high-end KPD in our range.
Either Greeves or Schubert would be a good pickup if available and both should go before King or Carmichael.

I would like to draft in a 25kg heavier Hayden Maclean. A pack crashing contested marking beast.

Given nobody wants to join us I think Hayden needs to get on the potatoes, and the steak and the pasta.

A titanic will never be a speedboat so let’s make the best titanic we can.

I also want him to grow a beard. Big guys with beards are scarier.

A bit of grippo on the hands and we have the next Tomahawk.

Who needs Charlie Curnow ?

Get it done Dos.
A 25kg heavier Doss?!!! He would be playing the game in slow motion!

Our window is basically Heeney/Grundy playing at this level and if Warner stays beyond 2026 thats it.

Curnow/May make sense right now not in 12-24 months time

I would much prefer Curnow than Petracca, our midfield is fine honestly, sure they get beaten sometimes but every midfield does.

The biggest problem this year (the Cats and GWS game 2nd half late in the year stand out) is our complete inability to win or even neutralise 50/50 contests in the air forward or behind the ball, leading to us either giving up intercept / contested marks or having to commit extra players in the air which gives the opposition extras at ground level.

If our midfield is dominating like the first half against GWS then yeah it looks fine but if they start to get on top or break even we get destroyed because we lose the field position so badly.

I find it weird that so many clubs, and their supporters, think it is a good negotiating strategy to ask for things the other teams either doesn't have or won't trade for obvious reasons.

All it does is reduce the chances of actually getting a good offer.

Sydney are still confident on landing Curnow.

His management have continued to indicate to us that he is interested in a trade.

Geelong have other priorities, do not have the trade capital to bring him in.

GC have some interest, but are happy with their forward set up currently and are looking at cheaper forward options, limited capital to trade as well (This could change depending on if a GC player decides they want out to Victoria, but for the moment you can rule them out of the Curnow race).

If it goes through (To the Swans) will be a 3-4 club trade, our first this year and next along with a player. Player likely to Carlton (Florent type, but may be a surprise) and our two picks packaged to someone earlier in the board to help Carlton get ahead of the Dean bid.

Our first this year and next have limited value for Carlton due to father son options they have.

Internally the Swans are bullish on our chances next year, so have been reaching out to players around the league.
Bonz any news on key defender recruitment (outside of cult hero Finnbar Maley) or are they as bullish on our younger talls as well?

Players who I wouldn't mind*

Greeves - big bodied mid, knock on him would be if he has the athletic traits to translate his game to afl level
Farrow - in/out mid but seems like a bit samey in our mid rotation but is quality
Schubert - classic marking KPF. Will take a few years to mature
Ludowyke - good mover and marks the ball well. Few years off and will need to develop body in vfl for two or three years

"Reaches"
Thredgold - KPD
Hetherton - KPF - fallen off radar a bit but had 11 goals in 3 games for the bushrangers this year prior to being sidelined with a back injury

Later draft:
Onley - Tall Mid

*now that it is out in the universe no chance in hell we will get any of them
Greeves or Schubert (no chance of both 🤔) I like a lot as both have solid frames you can build muscle on. Aggressive. The other two less exciting but could end up being what's available.
Good call on Hetherton, especially if we got Greeves (say). Thredgold reminds me of Grainger-Barrass - good at this level.

Oh, we would only be getting one of the first six.

Thredgold got cruelled by injuries this year, same as Hetherton.

Out of all of them, would be happiest with Hetherton.

Very interesting. Thanks Bonz. Two firsts and a Florent would be alright.

I just hope we're not putting all our eggs in one basket as we do have other positions of need. Obviously still a long way to go, and we can't fix every problem in one go, so if we have to pull the trigger at that price, then I wouldn't complain.

🙋 Having seen Buku a few times he was rightly on the fringe at the Dogs who were desperate for a KPD. Yeah nah.
Yeah, let's just trade for stars only. Didn't take long with this thread to deliver.
