He'd be a fantastic fit imho but internally we see Milera and Laird as half back lock options next season and beyond so McVee wouldn't have realistically been on our radar
By that I mean we have more pressing needs with only so many assets to address them.

Cumming can go to half back.
Edwards and Ryan could be options.
As Dawson ages he could go back.

Well, we were in the mix for flags in the mid 2000s, in the early 2010s and then again in 2017, and this year we were one of the better sides in the comp.

We struggled while rebuilding, exactly as everyone expected us to. Now we seem to have a strong and positive squad that's missing a couple of pieces.

I think the "woe is me" is overstated. We've mostly been an okay second-tier club, with a few who have been better than us. Hopefully we'll now use our advantages in the way we should have the last 15 years and haven't.

The criticism of the philosophies that stopped us winning flags during those ‘contending’ periods still remain. I don’t understand how that’s not patently obvious to people interested in our club. Through process and consistent application of intent we’ll continue to be pretty good minor round performers. But we’re going to continue to fall short when it matters. Our philosophies guarantee this and we absolutely do not have the edge required to win a flag.

Or playing Tex in the SANFL or Worrell for a bunch of games. You learn focusing on developing your weaknesses in the lower leagues.

Did it help Fogarty playing other roles in the SANFL? Hard to know - he is a much better footballer now than then, that's clear. Hard to know what contributed to that.

Worrell only got a game because Doedee finally missed through injury. Doedee’s form was bad enough to he dropped, but we don’t operate that way.

Seriously, how many of those are midfielders?

Think I count one, Zane, the rest are not. And Zane has played 23 games over two years.

Stop proving how clueless you are.
Bo Allen, Sanders, Leo Lombard were drafted as midfielders. Duursma and Travaglia are utilities that spent some time in the midfield but a lot of time in other roles. Tholstrop is a forward.

Not sure either of you should call someone else clueless, that seems unnecessary.

You might consider unnecessary but his form suggests otherwise.

Draper doesn't need to work on his game any more than other elite picks. He's a bonafide star player who was excellent at junior level and has a boatload of strengths. This idea he's a flawed project player that needs tinkering with in the SANFL is wrong.

And if it was true, why the **** did we take him at pick 4?

Look at the competition's star midfielders. How many of them were top picks (so not project players) and were developed through the reserves?

Just from the last few years All Australian teams

It's irrelevant whether they are midfielders because I was talking about established proven players

For all we know they could be proving the point. Maybe they will fail because they aren't being developed in the AFL

My point is that of the elite players that we do know about, the All Australian types, the vast majority of them were played in the AFL early, especially if they were early draft picks. It's a proven fact.

There is very little evidence that early draft picks become elite players by playing mostly reserves football early. If there are players that fit that bill, I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Current evidence I've seen suggests otherwise though

I’m not convinced Nicks’ choice of experience over youth is Drapers fault.

Interrupted draft year, leading to a limited pre-season. Needs work but so do kids, some get to do it in the one’s, however Crows have always done it through the two’s. Let’s not write off a 19 year old just yet.

"Crows have always done it through the twos"

And how has that worked out for us so far?

Really need to get a ruck. Some people say Darcy Fort, Rhys Stanley, etc are "nothing special", "average" rucks but they actually contribute, have good coordination and don't inhibit their teams from success. ROB however does not with his tapwork to the opposition, falconing the ball, shinning the ball, getting in the way of handball chains, crowding our forward line etc. We won't win a flag with him.

Fagan said in his press conference after the Grand Final that he likes to back young players in, and tells them to use their weapons to play to their strengths.

The Brisbane Grand Final team had

Sam Marshall 19
Ty Gallop 19
Levi Ashcroft 19
Logan Morris 20
Darcy Willmott 21
Jaspa Fletcher 21
Will Ashcroft 21
Kai Lohmann 22

Hopefully they can’t afford to keep them all as they get older and we can grab a few
