Does anyone know more about his background, hard to find much information about him before Glenelg.

Lol, Carrs coaching panel is lightyears ahead of whatever shit Hinkley was running
Darren Reeves alone with two state league premierships is a more accomplished coach than Hinkley.

There is a bit of Mark Stone (Glenelg's previous premiership coach who went from Wagga Tigers to South Freo B grade then A grade coach, then to West Coast, Sydney Swans, Freo, Glenelg, Brisbane and now Perth's coach in the WAFL) and Chris Fagan about Reeves.

Ie didn't play at the highest levels but worked his way up through the ranks and is obviously good at working with young players. He was 47 when he got the Glenelg gig.

As JimmyBC has pointed out many times, footy heads in heartland states, state leagues, are more than adequate to become AFL assistant coaches if their journey has been long and seen success.

From Glenelg's press release when they appointed him as coach in late 2022. He likes to multi task.

The Glenelg Football Club is pleased to announce that current North Adelaide Football Club Head of Development, Darren Reeves, will coach the Club in a full-time capacity for the next two seasons.

Reeves has undertaken a variety of coaching roles over the past 13 years, culminating in his current role which incorporates Senior Midfield Coach, Senior Assistant Coach and Reserves Coach. Reeves brings a wealth of experience at State League level, having coached the NT Thunder for two seasons as well as having coached the U18 Centre of Excellence program at the Central District Football Club.

Sanfl article when he got the Glenelg gig

Glenelg has secured highly-rated North Adelaide development mentor Darren Reeves as its new senior coach for the next two seasons. Describing the past 48 hours as a ”whirlwind”, Reeves met the Bays’ playing group for the first time on Wednesday night in preparation for his start on January 3.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the 47-year-old said he was determined to promote an exciting brand of football at the Bay, utilising the Tigers’ potency inside attacking 50m.

Originally from the Blue Mountains in NSW, Reeves also spent two seasons coaching the NT Thunder in the former NEAFL competition after initially starting his coaching journey by steering Nuriootpa to a premiership in the Barossa Light and Gawler Football League.

Darren Reeves

2010 – 2013 Salisbury Football Club (SAAFL)
2014 – 2015 Nuriootpa Football Club (BLGA)
2016 – 2017 Centre of Excellence – U/18 Head Coach – Central Districts Football Club (SANFL)
2017 – 2018 Reserves Coach/Senior Assistant – Central Districts Football Club (SANFL)
2016 – 2017 AFL High Performance Level 3
2016 – 2017 AFLCA Next Coach Program
2018 – 2019 NT Thunder Head Coach
2020 – 2022 North Adelaide Head of Development/Senior League Assistant/Reserves Coach

Boasting a strong development background, Reeves – who guided North’s Reserves into the 2020 and 2022 Grand Finals – is also eager to work with the club’s talented juniors, following the U18s winning the 2022 Torrens University Cup.

Very pleased to hear that opposition analyst is going to be a real job done by a real coach. It's almost as if Carr is trolling, by picking up on something we all knew was non-existent under the previous regime.

Hopefully us being out-coached even before a Sherrin is bounced in anger will be a thing of the past.

He was Jacob Surjan's assistant at North Adelaide before he got the gig at Glenelg.

Wonder how much good mates and back to back North Adelaide coaches Carr and Surjan lent on him to make a backflip.

i like this for a number of reasons - it’s fact he’s been highly regarded at every club he’s been at says a lot about him. but an added benefit of that is having him leave glenelg is air to annoy at least two tweeting Cornes types.
Chad Cornes to coach the bays in 2026!

He is gonna report to lord Jordy as his minion of WINNING.

Seriously though, good shit. ****ing hell we were so stale and had massive experience, quality and skills gaps across the board. These are filling right out.

What a good start to the Carr era so far. Nail landing Dew and we are looking really good.

Great to sort these before players return too.
