Swans were heavily into him in his draft year

COS has looked really good this year too, he's gonna develop into a brilliant defender IMO. Unfortunately nobody was willing to trade with us to get ahead of the Geelong pick, AKA we weren't willing to pay the price. I'd imagine the price was pretty high.

I would suggest that anyone evaluating Melican on his highlight reel may be doing so with a touch of sarcasm.

I would also suggest that writing off Curnow on the basis of his performance in a grand total of 1 finals series is ridiculous.
To be honest, my only concern with Curnow is the price we're rumoured to be paying, and how high it is.

2 1st rounders and Florent OR Hayward - Get it done.
1 1st rounder and Florent AND Hayward - Get it done.
2 1st rounders and Florent AND Hayward - That's where I start to worry. But maybe if we had 2nd rounders coming back as part of that package it would be easier to accept.

Curnow is a gun, no doubts there, but the price has me worried.

No argument. I would love to have him but if it happens, I think we'll cringe at the price

If we didn’t have a good academy haul I would agree with you. But we do, so it’s a good year to spend everything!!!

I will say this happens in every negotiation in that you most of the time here the outright ridiculous offers each way.

Take Luke Parkers trade last year

Sydney came out im pretty sure and wanted pick 20 odd to start and North wanted him for like pick 60. In the end it landed in the middle on pick 40 (Bice)

I think the realistic answer given past trade history of comparable players is either 2 and Florent or 2 and Florent with something on the way back e.g. A second

Our academy haul addresses some areas of need e.g. partially KPF with King, maybe small defender with Carmichael, maybe medium defender with later options.

It also covers areas we don't really need e.g. HB, wing. And doesn't address inside mid, KPD or a ready KPF. Now obviously if we got Curnow or Petracca that deals with one of those for now. We'd still need to address other areas, though we would maybe make do with rookie picks.

King is more a hybrid than a genuine KPP. Carmichael will let mills go back into the middle.

Agree with the rest. List is crying out for key defenders.

One of our Mods posted a rumour this morning they received, 2025 & 2026 1st Florent and Papley. Which kid of doesnt fit with Papley categorically ruling it out in an approach from Charlie's management.

Definitely keen to know the name you cant mention publicly ;)
That can’t be right.
I’m sure we’d have to be giving you Sheldrick as well just to complete the deal with a bucket of Vaseline coming back our way for future years of trading with Carlton.

If He indeed did finish at the Swans and you could get his body right this is not fantasy its fact. Curnow with mobility gets up the ground on the lead, takes marks, but more importantly then wheels and goes banging long goals or hitting up targets that have got in behind the ball. He has high footy IQ and does not stuff around with ball in hand. His kicking for a bloke his size is exceptional and could be a massive weapon. This Is Curnow fully fit & a version of what Carlton have had with him winning his Coleman's. Will he get to the club and will his body be right ? Who knows but if it did come to fruition look out. Ironic part of this is we have a very similar player to Curnow in McDonald All be it without the same athletic attributes but the same ability to be able to get up the ground take marks out on the lead and use his good field kicking and High footy IQ to get the ball quickly into areas inside 50 that are going to have opposition defenders under the pump. We need this type of forward and ball movement instead of our clunky stop start entries inside 50.

Agreed. I think this year a lot of what looked to be slow, indecisive ball movement was simply a lack of tall marking options ahead of the ball. Curnow is exactly what we need... a player who can lead well outside 50 and take a contested grab.

Now here is what I heard last end of season from a Carlton man.
He said Curnow’s knees were fkd & that the club was concerned.

He will leave Carlton, not necessarily us, but it will be for far less back than people think because his salary will be a problem going forward.

Don’t want him to be honest if it means selling farm. He is a good payer obviously and a need but not the total need

He isn’t the difference to a flag no way imo

We frontloaded the first two years of his current deal. He's actually cheaper than you think based on his contract.
