This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

Can we still match? If so, we should his contract is not that much considering he could be good insurance if our trades fall through.

Unless we need his salary for something else?

All these options seem at last as good as getting pick #45 to me...

1. He comes back to the club on what is obviously a modest 4yr contract.
2. Geelong trade pick #17 for him (or Mannagh if they want, up to them :)).
3. He walks to PSD for nothing and risks getting shipped off to West Coast.

Well what do you think #8 #28 plus F1 F2 and players like McKenzie and Lewis add up to?

I don't think Merrett is worth 3 top 10 picks, so not sure why we'd need to trade Lewis? This is the clubs stance as well.

I'd rather back ourselves to get the best out of Lewis while we're in the hunt for a flag.

The fact that Battle was band 1, when his salary is high but not elite by comp standards, illustrates how it's used to equalise, and in St Kilda's case, placate.
Sounds like Battle and Silvagni contracts are pretty similar yet Carlton get band 2 and saints band 1.

Apparently there's a photo of Steven King and Bailey Humphrey walking around the Tan.

Mate of mine also saw them walking around the Tan. I still don't get why they meet in public like that when they could quietly meet at someone's house or an office somewhere? Seems so odd to me. Obviously someone is going to see you take a pic.

This is the end of the 2nd round #39. Will probably drift to 45 by the time all the FS and academy picks go through. What would Worpel be worth on the open market? Probably a top 10 pick i would guess. This is another reason we should be looking seriously at trading Lewis for a mid first rounder this season rather than losing him for pick 65 compensation next season as a FA.
Worpel is nowhere near worth a top 10 pick on the open market. He's been on the open market and gotten 1 offer which is very very modest 4 years, and a lower offer from us.

Players that are worth a top 10 pick will get offers from every club.

Are they looking for Clayton’s bag of goodies in the bushes or are they giving him a tour of Melbournes wonderful facility.

If I was trying to recruit a player to the Demons I would keep them as far from any of their facilities. Absolute backwater stuff.

If Worps was worth Band 2 Compo, then why did 2 clubs offer him $650k a year.

We just need to come to terms with the fact he aint that good. Turn the page and lets get on with finding a new midfield while Geelong pay $650k for a guy who kicks the ball worse than my ex girlfriend.

He is hopeless only a grand finalist has any use for him.

Worpel would be worth about 25 on the open market, so a mid 2nd round pick. So I logically think it follows that band 3 is appropriate. But the difference between band 4 and band 3 is so small that its really irrelevant.

Silvagni however - worth about 35 on the open market but the saints have paid for someone worht more and I guess thats the point. Carlton would be forced to pay up to 1st round equivalent to retain him.

Wouldn't we have a bit of muscle to flex here?

Already got a place down there and Cats committed to him. They will have to pay up (to an extent) if we match.

I mean rules are rules and we are going to be on the receiving end when it comes to contracted players this trade period.

Whether or not we bother or want the angst I have no idea. Probably the club doesn't.

In what universe is Worpel worthy of a top 10 pick. Maybe from pick 30 to 40 about right.

Geelol not paying top dollars and we do not want him.

A pick in the 40s is a joke!

All I say from here… I hope the hawks shaft every team in this draft period. A best 22 player in top 4 team, at 26, only worth a pick in the 40s… shaft!

We never reap the benefit of compo picks.

In all honesty, there should be no free agency compensation at all. It’s a ridiculous system.

If a player qualifies and has decided to leave and your club can’t convince them to stay, they should just move with no compensation.

It comprises the draft and there’s never going to be a fair system. So just make it nothing and be done with it.
