2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

That is a significant upgrade for the '26 list on the '25 list. The fact Cordy and Jones have gotten so long out of this club says to me we've been playing catch up for a long, long time.

Also, I too am keen on Pou #2, but if Sharp, Greeves or Grlj are still available at our pick, would make the romance pick of Mini Pou a tough call...
I've talked about this before but if I was Gubby and SOS I'd be interviewing Matteas's parents and closest friends and asking them in their opinion, do they think Matteas would push himself harder and enjoy playing more in a team with his little brother or with his brother on the opposition team?

I asked my son the same question and he said definitely "opposing team". But he's 12 and not a professional sportsman lol. As a parent who loves both kids, I'd much prefer them to be on the same team, sharing everything together etc. But thinking of my two boys specifically as players, there's no question that competing against each other would bring out their best effort.

I wonder if Matteas and Jevan are similar or more like the Daicos brothers or Ashcroft brothers, etc. Definitely something to consider anyway.

I'd be interested to hear posters' opinions about including any of the following as part of a trade for Marshall, including reasons (nothing useless like "he's a spud" please):

Mitch Knevitt
Mitch Edwards
George Stevens
SDK
Lawson Humphries
Jacob Molier
Grya... nah we're dreaming, aren't we?
Ted Clohesy

These are the only players on Geelong's list which intrigue me and which Geelong might possibly part with for a shot at Marshall and another possible flag before the impending clean out.
George Stevens, only because he's a big-bodied midfielder with some promise
1 of his two games at the end of this year was quite good
With  Knevitt i think they knocked back someone elses interest already
Gryan & Humphries l highly doubt they part with

If we can turn Ro, Butler, an F2, an F3, and some salary cap into TDK, Flanders, JSOS, Ryan and Aleer, the we're freaking on. Draft a J Pou, a Taylor, or a Farrows with 7, match a bid for Fincher, and Bobs your uncle. I'm hoping for an off-season of:

Out:
Marshall (traded)
Butler (traded)
Cordy (delisted)
Jones (delisted, retained at VFL)
Webster (retired)
McClennan (delisted)
Shoenmaker (delisted)
Byrnes (delisted)
Boyd (delisted)

In
TDK (FA)
JSOS (FA)
Flanders (Ro picks and Butler)
Ryan (F2)
Aleer (F3)
J. Pou (P7)
Fincher (Matched bid)
Voss (Rookie)
Wanganeen (Rookie)

Gives us

AFL Best 23

FB Aleer Wilkie JSOS

HB Sinclair Howard Clark

C Wilson Philippou Windhager

HFF Ryan Sharman Hall

FF Higgins King Owens

Foll TDK NWM Flanders

INT Macrae Steele Hill Henry Garcia

VFL Best 23

FB LOC Caminiti Barrat

HB Hastie Tauru Fincher

C Travalia Boxshall Wood

HFF Carrol Keeler J Pou

FF Collard Heath Wanganeen

Foll Dodson Jones Dow

INT Voss, Stocker, Armstrong, Said
Tauru will never play VFL again. Are you crazy?

No way Geelong give up anyone from there GF team plus Stewart. Their depth isnt great either, so its pretty average options. Would have to be a fringe player (Stevens, Bruhn, O.Henry etc.) to go along with a first rounder (or 2) given it will be at around pick 20 this year and probably similar next year.
Bruhn? Hahahaha no thanks

Or he has pulled the trigger an hour after TDK was confirmed as a St Kilda player because he isn’t happy.

The timing cannot be a coincidence.

It will be fascinating to see how it all plays out.

100%, the timing wasn't accidental. Has his nose out of joint and expressed it without saying it.

Make these arrogant sleepy-hollow gombeens pay a kings ransom for him - or no ****ing deal! Over to you Ross, SOS & Co... As for Marshall, well a contract's a contract. We're in charge here and I hope we stand our ground!

Mitch Knevitt - big-bodied mid but terrible kick and inconsistent. Boxshall is better
Mitch Edwards < Dodson
George Stevens - wouldn't mind him although he's a bit slow. Quite damaging by foot for a clearance bull which is unique
SDK - tick tick tick
Lawson Humphries - elite ball user but sooo bad at defending. probably a better and younger version of bonner tbh
Jacob Molier - no idea. All I know is that he's a super fast tall forward
Grya... nah we're dreaming, aren't we?
Ted Clohesy < Hall, Henry in same role

For a team as good as Geelong's it's surprisingly difficult to find desirable fringe players

If I've been working somewhere for 10 years and the bosses bring someone else to do my job for twice the pay, but tell me i can cover the new guy on his breaks, I would probably be looking for a new job.

At the end of the day, this is their job, they have to look out for themselves above all.

Except that your boss has prepaid you a proportion of the next two years salary, for two years you are yet to work. Plus you have agreed to stay for that time period and have a contract in place. Love Roh, but sorry you can't have it all. If its to the employers advantage after the pre-paying and the contract then fine, otherwise see you at the first day of training.

Anyone else think it’s absolutely ****ed that Melbourne have leaked a story to Journos about a chat with Oliver and a role change and he find a new club if unhappy?

I kinda feel sorry for the guy here.

Dr Spaceman , can you do a GIF of Oliver being Kevin Klein when he's flattened in A Fish Called Wanda?

"It's k-k-k-k-Ken coming to k-k-k-k-kill me!"

humphries no chance basket

so with that in mind SDK a clear choice, many years younger and he means we dont have to pick up a spud ruck as backup,he also doesnt clash with dodsons rise,as he can play back, unlike say an edwards

would add j.clark to your list and he along with knevitt stevens clohesy all have as much bust potential as sdk,i think he comes with the greater benefit

Would be holding Marshall no matter how much he wants out or how much Geelong offer.

He’s a big boy, he’ll be fine.

I’ve found it a little bemusing so many people on here pumping up Keeler as a forward/ruck option. Like.. what are y’all seein !? He’s one of the worst rucks I have ever seen! I’m a massive fan of the guy but let’s not piss on ourselves and claim it’s raining.

I feel like people were watching a different Keeler to me. You know he doesn’t do those three fabulous things weekly, let alone halve a contest that much? Hey, I’m hopeful. He has incredible traits. But he was like a scarecrow for most of the year or has everyone deleted their posts? We were a man down when he was forward. And don’t give me the “yeah buts”, if he is asked to be a tall forward again then god almighty he better have improved his one on one. Very possible that TDK can’t play a chunk of games purely because people get injured! Gee I love the potential of Dodzilla, one of our best young prospects. But neither are ready for a full year of first ruck.
Sent away this summer with a huge gym plan. Pretty clear to him by the coaches that he has all the talent but needs to be better physically to compete.

Expecting a different Keeler in pre season

Think people have been distracted by the salaries of TDK and JSOS and lost sight of how good both players are.

Watched some highlights yesterday- both compete well at ground level and are exceptionally strong in the air.
Our marking around the ground has not been a strong point, so anything to improve that..or more.

If this guy comes back with an "Im the man" mindset, he will be unstoppable! I want Ollie Geale and our media team to start referring to our F50 as the "Keel Zone" or the "Keeling Fields" or something like that so he knows he owns that area, like Plugger and Buddy did.

Shame about Ro but it is what it is. I would have liked to see him and TDK in the same side.

Hardly surprising though. Obviously wants to be the number one ruckman and if he was looking at the Cats last year, there's a pull to go there. Who knows what they're offering him.

Anyway... I'm sure SOS won't see us screwed over in the deal.

Bring on Keeler. Saw enough last year... he could be anything.

Since 2027 is the earliest realistic target Keels and Dodzilla both have 2 full years to develop into a 2nd ruck. Again having no cover for King should be the main concern.
