Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.

Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Something I've been thinking about over the past couple of days is the front loading of contracts.

Its widely accepted that front loading is a big part of the reason we have a huge warchest.

Why is it that numerous sources - both media and connected posters - are discussing getting Steele and Marshall's salary off our books?

I suppose noone really knows the machinations of our salary cap, but I was under the impression these two have had the majority of their contracts paid already.

Have been thinking the exact same thing.

I’m not in the business of defending Essendon but I reckon criticising them for not playing a match that was cancelled, in the pre season no less, is something anyone should be to upset about. I get families came etc but that one’s not on essendon.

It got cancelled because of Essendon.

We were there & ready to play.

It’s arousing yes in so much as it gets the blood flowing for after game celebrations.

Football is bloodlust with rules like watching the ufc, too much talk of circle jerks on here.

I see Steele very differently to others on here. Makes zero sense to me to part with anything less than a pick in the 20s

Paying $700k+ pa for one of your best players to play at another club would be the worst strategy ever.

So, you were a bit cryptic in answering my open ended question like a politician. Are you saying you know for a fact that we haven't front ended Steele or Marshall's contracts?

Or are you saying we'll be overpaid in a trade because they actually have been front loaded?

Clearly I'm a few cents short of a dollar myself because I'd much rather you keep it basic and stop with the cryptic clues.

I'm hoping they try Barrett as a forward in 2026. We've picked up Aleer and Silvagni, and Howard should be back from injury.

Caminiti has played his best footy at a defender hands down, and has so much more development in him.

Barrett was actually playing very well as forward in the Coates League in 2024 (22 goals) before being switched to defence. We're flaky up forward with King injury prone and Marshall no lock to remain at this stage (or the seasons to come).

Carl or Basset said at one point that the saints must find alternative revenue sources instead of selling games (like bulldogs, hawthorn etc) now we have the govt of Fiji and the AFL on board.

Now thats an alternative revenue stream without selling games.

I literally just said if our plan was to create cap space and spend big only to send 2 players packing for cents in the dollar then it would be stupid.

So it implies it’s not the case. Not that I know that factually.

Bains is weak and shafted Chris Grant because Grant disagreed withn Beveridge.
Beveridge is way more powerful at that club than Lyon will ever be at the Saints.
The Wilkie debacle was completely instigated by Beveridge who ran roughshod over Power.
When it wrnt belly up as Power said it would, don't be surprised if he gets blamed.

He didn't standout for Sandy in the backline for mine.
But the coaches have said that they are happy with his development back there.
But l agree,
he has sticky hands.
And they played him in one game forward for Sandy & he looked comfortable there.

In the constitution, has to be replaced in two years. Reckon he will do a Putin and replace himself with an acolyte and stay on the board.

I'm many pages behind, but....
He can, and has at least once previously, renominate and if the other board members accept his nomination he can serve another term.
My read, is that he'll be on board for the long run.

Hmmm. So has a deal already been agreed to if Ro as a contracted player and his management are willing to come out publicly and request the trade? Ro and his management have been aware of the TDK offer for as long as everyone else, they must have gotten things moving behind the scenes a while back.

If that's the case, I think I've yo-yo'd back to liking SDK. Unless we can work out an amazing deal with future draft picks or other clubs players, he almost certainly will be better than whoever we can get at pick 24 or whatever the Cats 1st will end up at.
