2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

Grander concern is more around midfield still for that reason. Tons of midfielders are gettable but we just didnt offer batshit insane money too.

Ill say it once and ill say it again. We need to throw insane money around to get people over... we just need to make sure that player fills a positional need for the team as opposed to just knowing how to get to Scarbarough beach as the pre requisite

Its pretty obvious the strategy.

We are using all our top picks on gun kids now..

Our hands were tied with bringing in free agents as we got pick 2 compo and diluting that would have been dumb.

So how would YOU trade in a gun mid after offering them stupid money? Not by free agency. So by trading pick 1 or 2. For who exactly?

Our trade / FA target is obviously Warner in 12 months or two years. When the draft is gutted by Tasmania and this years draftees and existing kids have two more seasons development. THAT is when we chase FAs and big trades. Not this year.

So tell us all. How would you have done this? Found this willing and able gun mid to move across right now. How would you have paid for it?

Will Phillips is the only trade I could see being gettable and he wouldnt cost big dollars and not top picks.

I'm told Willem Duursma is pretty keen to get to WCE, and Harley has reached out telling him he's keen to have him over. They still have a pretty good relationship.

Also this Bailey Humphrey to Melbourne move is still very much possible even if the noise has died on it a little. This is good news for us if it happens given it means one of GC's picks will be gettable.

Harley Duursma 1 - 2 punch sounds good.

Same as Sharp plus Cumming / Schubert 1 - 2 SA combo.

Use 1 on Duursma. Either split 2 or get in another top 8 pick.

Splitting 2 I still believe will get us Sharp.

Duursma is so far ahead, it would take a Fairy Godmother deal to prize that away from us.
Let Melb, Rich, Bombtards scrap over pick 2, which is, hopefully, CDT*.
*no disrespect to the young man, it's needs based opinion

I hope this is our strategy.

Take the clear # 1 Duursma who is close with Harley.

Auction pick 2 off to Essendon, Tigers and Melbourne.

Take Sharp anyway.

Trade for another late top 10 pick with 13 plus ?

The anti Clark mob have backed yourselves into a corner where no matter the outcome you all have to stick to your view he is no good.

Going off early time and time again and over valuing our players leaving.

Haters gotta hate.
They got no Simmo or Nizzy or even the credit crew anymore so they need to pick someone. Clark is a sitting duck considering his role.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why Cody curtin didn’t make the top 50 of zero hanger’s most recent mock draft, yet in July he was ranked 18.
Looks an absolute competitive beast with a nice set shot.

Likewise Rodriguez down to #50, Swaddling 47.

At a guess, WA talent is undervalued because WA youth pathways aren't as highly regarded as Vic.

Curtin had some injury issues that held him back this season, others have mentioned something without specifics but say expect a return to better fitness next year. Maybe a bit of OP or a niggle?

Now Rodriguez sliding out past 50 has me stumped. Touted as a top 5 selection 12 months ago. Anyone have a clue what happened there?

He had a half decent championships, still gets plenty of ball.

Therein lies the problem...once is enough.

I dont think Erasmus/Davies would have cost alot. Id have been working on ensuring both get here and forget Starcevich/Robertson. Would have cost more money and a tiny bit more draft capital (maybe also lose one of the picks in the 30s) but we just need midfielders... and we dont have the time to wait for someone perfect

If we get to the tail end of the draft, have 2 list spots remaining, and all of Banfield, Williams, Rodriguez & Swaddling are still on the board, who do we take? Do we roll the dice that Banfield and Williams last long enough to be taken as Cat b rookies?
Cat B rookies are pre listed. Once they exit the national draft we got no dice to roll

Id keep Cripps space open til after the draft period. We decide what list to put him on after the drafts done

We’ll know if anyone is bidding late. If there are players we rate higher than the NGAs/FS then you take them, simple as that.

I think Williams might go second round. He was already rated by some clubs highly and then from the testing it seems like he had a great combine so that would have done his chances no harm. Do we match I'm not sure but he does seem like he might fit into Mini's system well, has a high workrate & plays fast.

Banfield I'd take over the other 2 from what I've seen.

Tylah Williams not in their top 50 but rookie me central have his draft range at 15-30

As long as Williams stretches out to 37 before a bid we’re sweet

Matt Clarke is that you? It’s okay, we are all behind you. Bring us home strong and silence the doubters, champ.

*Trade 13, 34, 38 to GC for 7
*Trade the future 2nd that GWS want for Aleer to get Aleer
*Go to the draft with 1,2,7,41,53,58
*Draft either Duursma, Patterson or Robey with 1 and 2
*get Taylor or Lindsay with 7 and Rodriguez with 41
* 53 and 58 for Williams and banfield
I would have next years best 23 looking like this
B: Hough, Edwards, Starcivich
HB: Ginbey, Aleer, Yeo
C: Duursma, Roberson, Allen
HF: Baker, Shanahan, Hutchinson
F: Reid, Waterman, Brockman
R: Flynn, Reid, McCarthy
Int: Hewitt, Dewar, Graham, Duggan, then either Gross, grego, maric or a draft pick
