Hi all,

As many of you would know from your respective club boards, I have been doing a rolling team of 21st century for last ~10 years which I try to update every year as changes required.

Most of the time, most boards agreed with at least ~20 players I choose however there's always a few differences.

To fill in the most boring time of year, I thought I'd rank each team's one. Only criteria I used were minimum 50 games for that club in this century and I favoured longevity over peak performance which is why some pretty talented injury-prone players missed out. I also tried mostly to pick players in position so there are some occasions where better players miss out.

#1: GEELONG

Unsurprisingly the most successful team of this century comes in at no.1. Unbelievably, every single player in this list is both an All Australian AND a premiership player.

FBT.STEWART*M.SCARLETTT.HARLEY (vc)
HBC.ENRIGHTH.TAYLORD.MILBURN
CJ.BARTELJ.SELWOOD (c)C.GUTHRIE

#2: BRISBANE

All but 4 of the starting 18 come from the 2 premiership eras.

#3: HAWTHORN

Very tough to split from brisbane. Probably the best forward line out of this list maybe equal with geelong & richmond.

CS.BURGOYNES.MITCHELL (vc)I.SMITH

#5: SYDNEY

Maybe the most consistent team this century so not as many absolute top shelfers as the top 4 teams however a very even spread of great players. Not one weak link. Another ridiculous forward line.

#9: RICHMOND

Tigers supporters, I promise this is not a lame ninthmond attempt! Similar to melbourne, outside of 4 elite years have largely been a poor side this century however this side is largely reflective of those 4 years with some absolute superstars in here and some others that were great serviceable players. Another destructive forward line up there with the very best in this list.

On a more serious note I would include Lewis Jetta in the Swans side. Yes, in theory he may not be as good as the players listed but he provides something that no other player does. He is very much a point of difference with his speed and his kicking.

I find Sydney being under West Coast offensive. Those w***ers wish they were as good as us :)

Yeah I wish we got thrashed in as many grand finals as your mob has :moustache:

proper flip of the coin that one. even during the rivalry years i always felt west coast were better on paper but swans were better as a team and an exercise like this only looks at paper, which the game is not played on!

I'd personally have the Mark Williams/Puopolo types over Dylan Moore.. for now
McEvoy over Everitt
Shiels over J.Smith

Great effort on our side.

Defense would've been hard to nail. Personally think I'd have Nick Smith in there myself and could stake a claim for Richards. Mattner and Malceski also unlucky and to a lesser extent Shaw and Kennelly.

Would add in

Given he played over 50 games for us Lake over Hay and 2 of Guerra, Hardwick or Stratton over J. Smith and Brown. Shiels would miss for me

Here is my Swans team. A bit different to the team listed, but I feel like with the addition of guys like Blakey and Jetta it brings in some more attacking flair that the other Swans team did not have. Also got rid of the butchers of the football with kicking in Hannebery and Parker. Everyone in the team I listed can kick.

Also felt like we did not need both Barry and Rampe in the same team given they play basically the same role, but Rampe is more attacking than Barry was.

Get in whilst you can, one of those is soon to be another teams Team of the Century!

St Kilda is crazy

Max Hudgeton over Sean Dempster, Dempster was good, but his career was cut short and Hudgeton all day every day.

I'd have Kozi over Membrey every day of the week. Seb Ross and Geary aren't near this team lol.

Goddard over Aaron Hamill. Jack Steven over Jack Steele, Steele isn't in the team at all, I'd have Andrew Thompson on the bench taking Jack Stevens spot (who is taking Jack Steele's spot)

Gresham being in this team is criminal. I'd have Mason Wood in over Gresham, but Wood doesn't get near this team either. I'm going with Adam Sneider lol

Coach is obviously spot on.

No offence to Kozi, he was a decent player, but in no way shape or form should he be anywhere near anyones team of the 21st century.

He's better than Membrey. And no doubt you won't be able to answer this - but how many goals did Milne kick because Kozi split the pack? Highly underrated player.

Yes, he is better than Membrey but he still isn't a standout player. There would not have been many games won off the back of Koschitzke.

As for him helping Milne, I suspect that is something a lot of really tall full forwards could do, just because they are big and if they can't mark it they can usually bring it to ground.

As for him helping Milne, I suspect that is something a lot of really tall full forwards could do, just because they are big and if they can't mark it they can usually bring it to ground.
But it was Kozi that was doing it. In a successful team, with Kozi often taking the 2nd best defender every week.

Like I said - highly underrated

It's difficult enough to do it for one team, let alone 18, so kudos have to go to you for that curnow inferno.

Rating West Coast at 4th is also about right and your team is just about spot on given the criteria of minimum 50 games this century, and longevity over peak performance, so it means ones like Chad Fletcher push out say Beau Waters from the list.

Thanks for your efforts!

Embley on the half forward flank so we can put Kerr on the wing?

Serious?

Would have been more offensive to Eagles fans if it was the other way around. Would you rather have Ben Cousins swapped with Daniel Kerr?

If the major quibble is a slight positional controversy then the OP has done very well. What's your team then?
