I actually think Sydney’s biggest issue is Dean Cox. I don’t think he’s up to the level. He always looks surprised when they win.
Who was the last ruck turned coach to win a premiership? John Nicholls in 1972? (Google AI says Robert Walls in 1987 but I don't remember him every being a ruck??)

Would anyone on here like to list Curnow’s finals record over his career?

Sydney sans injuries will be more than competitive. Will Curnow and his finals record elevate them further? The jury is out for mine.

Nothing wrong with your memory , Walls played almost all his career as a CHF, with maybe some time at FF. Carlton had strong rucks, headed for the most part by either Nicholls or Jones during Walls' career. Might have pinch hit in ruck for a bit during the odd game but doubt he was ever selected in that position. And yes, Nicholls the last in VFL/Afl.
Graham Moss coached Claremont to a WAFL flag in 1981, and I think Ron Alexander followed up with E Fremantle in 1985.

They are dangerous in season and will likely make top 4 with him.

They aren't dangerous in a GF because winning one requires mental toughness and they tend to be mentally soft in grand finals-unless Cox can coach this out of them.

You need a fair few hands to count the amount of games where he went missing.... that's a fact.

The good players have the occasional lower impact game. The greats have a rare one. Heeney has far too many to be anything but an average player.
Best and fairest this year again.
You have issues.
He epitomises what is great about AFL- spectacular mark, great near goals, gets lots of the ball.

Club best and fairest mean nothing - Zach Merritt has several!!

When he wins a brownlow or a Norm Smith then you might have a leg to stand on.

What is it with Sydney and poaching star forwards but never winning a premiership? Like Lockett and Franklin. The only time it worked out was with Barry Hall.
Even with Barry Hall, Sydney was very lucky to win the 2005 Grand final. Barry Hall kicked 2 goals out of Sydney's 8 goals and 10 behinds.

Looking at the swans 2012 forward line that won the flag. Their talls were a ruckman in Mike Pyke. A semi decent but injury prone Key ruckman and full forward Sam Reid and a versatile 193 cm utility in Adam Goodes

Played 3 finals for 2 wins, 1 loss.

Averages 10 disposals, 1 goal, 5 marks (3 contested)

How so?

Whats the issue? Why is the back line bad?

Is it the tall backs? The smalls? Or inexperience with certain players?

I am still scratching my head on how my dockers lost to your side narrowly last season
1. Rampe and Lloyd are shadows of their former self.
2. McCartin is a good footballer but undersized on the big fwds. More of a 3rd banana
3. Melican is Melican
4. Blakey is Blakey. But he can't or doesn't defend. Loose as a goose.
5. No good young defenders coming through.
6. VFL side was terrible

Conclusion I think media saying we are contenders with Curnow haven't done their research.

Do You remember Josh Kennedy ?
That’s a stretch.

Kennedy was behind Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis and Sewell, so he left for opportunity.

Serong is just a good VFL player.
