For a long time the USA has committed acts of war and just not declared a war.

They've done it all over the world and nobody's going to hold them to account for doing it in Venezuela either.

The only person who would do that is Trump, because he wouldn't know or care about the implications because he's not going to be implicated.

I think there's a few differences in terms of why there's resonance now - a state-sanctioned murder at America's doorstep is going to resonate differently for people than it is in the Middle East (sadly we've seen time and again that for many an Arab Muslim life doesn't hold the same sanctity as others, and whatever racism is whipped up against Latinos it's not going to be the same). That they've boastfully been showing these murders only disquiets people more (Bush and Obama were never going "Check out this sweet snuff video we've got" in the way that Trump and Hegseth have been).

Ideally the Democrats would hold them to account when they're elected back into office - it's not enough to campaign on stopping the ICE arrests etc, they need to be willing to hold to account the people who've overseen and committed these crimes. A lot of Dem primary voters get cowed into voting for who they're told to (consciously or otherwise), but they need to learn from experience and pick someone who'll actually fight back and not just be another placeholder before the next fascist gets in like Biden was.
