Theres no point burying the kids at 18,19 without trying to preserve them when it doesnt matter 2025 only for them to be the next Ridley, Parish, Langfords

You walk a tight rope, dont cry when it breaks

Robey has shown just how precarious it can be
I’ll die on this hill, Tom Blamires, 23, deserves his shot

It was interesting that in what was being called a weak draft that in the end clubs went with the young blokes anyway.
You summed up why Blamires did not get selected in your own thread on the draft board.
Small. Not super quick. Skills have improved but not anything more than just above average.
Does run all day.

It looks like they wanted (maybe needed) to keep him, but whether they still do post draft is more important. We’ve ended up with a few guys who might be competitive in the middle early, which was never a given when they made that statement.

I also don’t read there statement as a promise, just an opportunity.

Also, I would have thought he would be training with us now if he/we were interested
Maybe not a promise but I do think the preference to keep him if at all possible was pretty clear. Would be pretty mean to screw him around for so long that he basically can’t go anywhere else and then not take him.

You’re right that things may have changed since then, and I guess we will see. But I’d still like to see us do right by him.

If another club wanted him they'd have reached out and he'd be there by now.

I read dogs were keen on him when we first delisted him, not sure if they still have interest though.
I could see him fitting well into the dogs midfield, they are a bit light on for defensively minded mids and being in the premiership window they can afford to carry an injury prone guy in the hope of getting his body right.

He was delisted on list lodgement day, as in the last one when the DFA periods are all done and they’re just figuring out how many picks each club should have in the national draft. By that point clubs already have their plans laid out. The timing means he’d have been lucky to get a rookie spot and now lucky to get a train on spot somewhere else.

Clubs wouldnt have waited until then though.

100% if someone wanted him they'd have reached out, he was out of contract, when he was officially delisted is irrelevant.

They did express interest after he was told to look around.

In any case I’m not here to convince you or eth. I’ve had my say and I stand by it.

I don't know what eth said.

But clubs look at out of contract players through out the entire season. They dont sit around waiting for them to be delisted.

Its just silly to suggest another club wouldnt have spoken to him because we offered him a maybe. Hugh Greenwood to North Melbourne is an example off the top of my head.

If someone wanted Setterfield they would've come and got him.

Edit: Just read. I dont really have an opinion on the snarky moment between you and Eth. I dont really care if we promised him a list spot or just a chance. Its irrelevant to my point.

Was the foot news with setterfield clear before end of DFA period, has it been fully cleared that he can some genuine running in pre round 1?

I must say im surprised a club like eagles didnt take him over F.Macrae, Schoenborg - Also he may not have been interested enough to move their on a 1 year deal. As bad as that sounds, it does come into it for some, its why clubs have to offer guys like M.Cox, Sandilands very late in careers 2 years when they only deserve 1

I don't imagine the Eagles have a need for him, as they already have Reid and YEO as big bodies....if YEO can get on the park, don't need any more injured players.
