Carlton a flag chance in 2026.

Given they've finished worse than 11th as often as they haven't this millenium, it doesn't take too much imagining.
Judge Carlton on their recent post covid results where they haven't finished bottom 4 and have won more finals than Fremantle and West Coast combined. They'll most likely finish in the 7th-10th range if we're being realistic but an optimistic view could see them in the mix for a top 4 finish.

No thanks.

I'll judge Carlton on the fact they peaked at successive 13 win seasons, before regressing their list after 2024 and having a 9 win 2025 despite having the easiest draw in the competition, and again regressed their list after 2025.

They're more likely to be in the bottom 4 than the top 10. (and the betting agencies agree with me on this)

Im sure they consulted you prior to framing their markets for 2026
Have you placed a bug in my phone?

The conversation went something like this - 'Hi Fadge, we believe you are historically the most accurate Ladder Predictor on BigFooty - what are your predictions for the 2026 season?'

7th seems pretty optimistic. Since you last won a final Gold Coast, Adelaide, Hawthorn and Freemantle have all flown past you, St Kilda strengthened at the end of 2025 whilst your list went backwards, as it did in 2024. I am struggling to see who in the 2025 top 8 regresses behind you. By the way what was the justification for including West Coast in your post covid analysis given post covid they have finished 9th, 17th, 18th, 16th and 18th

Gold Coast are nepo babies with silver spoons in their mouths they're going past most teams except for maybe Geelong and Brisbane. As for the other teams you mentioned they aren't more proven that Carlton and the reason I mentioned West Coast is because they've been worse than Carlton were in their dark ages despite people saying Carlton have been worse than everyone.

This is true in that blues at their worst we’re not as bad as the eagles have been recently

Important to remember Carlton massively underachieved in 2025, they’ve done a lot of work, Bo the on the track and mentally, to reset for next season

What changes have done done on the coaching ranks ?
have they replaced any assistants from 2025

plenty of coaching changes

Blues took a long look at themselves after a poor 2025, setup nicely for success now

When do you expect this 'success', and what does 'success' look like?

Yes as I've mentioned elsewhere Carlton had their worst 4 year period from 2015-2018 they won 19 games which is better than West Coast winning 11 games from 2022-2025. This is despite West Coast having a massive home ground advantage while Carlton are disadvantaged having to play at Docklands Stadium.

A GWS supporter labelling Gold Coast as ‘nepo babies’ is just about all time.

Gold Coast have goldmines for academies while we hardly get anything which is disappointing because Gold Coast is an AFL hotbed they don't need extra assistance. Chalk and cheese compared to Western Sydney which is arguably the toughest market for AFL in Australia.

Eagles have bottomed out, they’ll start turning it around but remain a long way from finals

Blues had the weight of expectation and faltered, will need to work harder to regain lost cred

Coming off an ACL can be tough. He is unlikely to be at his best in 2026. Considering he hasn't even played an AFL game yet means he is a real unknown at this stage.
Bailey Smith was coming off an ACL heading into 2025 and was arguably the best player in the competition that year.

There seems to be no great expectations about Carlton for the coming season. We seem to be gleefully written off by all and sundry.

I don't think we'll be winning a premiership in 2026 but i reckon we'll do a lot better than what some people are expecting regardless.

I reckon we'll be an eight to twelfth place team at best. A lot would need to go right to break into the top four.

'Lost Cred'?

Carlton haven't had any 'cred' since the 90's!
they are seen as a finals worthy team, but dont have contender cred.

Need 5 + years of consecutive finals with at least 2 x top 4 finishes to get to that level
