Do Collingwood need to enter a rebuild phase?

Actually I'm thinking you're the Donald the way you just spew out bs facts left right and centre 😆

Are you seriously trying to argue that Daics doesn't win Brownlows because of his game style, when he actually averages more votes than anyone in history? 🙃

Has he won a Brownlow yet, or have blokes with more clearances and contested possessions won them in the past 3 years instead?

What about salary cap, is that compromised too? We should have plenty of $$ available if all our stars are retiring at once

Free agents will be queuing up to join the mighty Pies and play with the game's undisputed best player
Who are these stars you are talking about ? I assume you are referring to Pendles, sidebottom who are playing for stuff all $$ . The money wont be free'd up as much as you think

He is the dominant king of the Brownlow, it's just stupid to argue otherwise

Others bob up and down but Daics is a new level of elite, every year

He's the best player in the game and will be possibly the player of the century just on maintaining current form

Tough read this thread. I think everyone makes fair points.

Last season, the younger players who should’ve been getting games had long term injuries in McInnes, Harrison and West. Then we also had injuries in Jiath, Ryan and Sullivan, not to mention losing Bobby for half the season. Hard to force out senior players when the players that should’ve been doing so are injured.

We also delisted fossils in Mitchell, Hoskin-Elliott and Cox which we went to the draft so not sure what more we could do?

Sidebottom had a good season, Pendles was serviceable and Elliott kicked 60 goals so we’d be going the North approach in forcing out senior players who were playing good footy and how did that turn out for them? Howe had a good start to the season and then fell apart. Those who have been to pre-season training have seen the coaching he’s providing McInnes and Cochran so there’s value in keeping him for one more year.

Yes, we’ve wasted some draft picks over the past decade though we’ve been very good at trading for players that we feel can have an impact; Crisp, Howe, Cameron, McStay, Lipinski, Mitchell, McStay, Long and Bobby. In our 2023 premiership side, there weren’t many first round draft picks in there (that we drafted).

As some have said on here, we’re constantly turning over the list but we realistically need 2-3 young players see more senior footy in 2026 which I don’t think is unrealistic.

Ok, so no Brownlow for Nick yet then?

Glad we cleared that up.

Also if he were a 'new level of elite', he'd have polled more votes this year than '24, not less.

I don't know Wormy, all I'm hearing is that everyone is retiring, Tassie will take all the draft picks and we'll be struggling to even field a side of 23 😆

Nice assessment

The worry is the almost complete lack of exposure of young players via the draft with the youngest player in the last game of the season drafted being Daicos who has played 95 games. Note the average age for that game against Brisbane was 29Y 106 D

Other players from the 2021 draft onwards games at AFL level

2021 Harrison - 16
2022 Allen 15 Ryan 1
2023 Jiath 1
2024 West 1 Hayes 2

Still think Collingwood will be very completive next year given a reasonable injury run though

Forget awards… if he was the undisputed best player he’d have been in the best 2 players on ground in a final …
Lol best 2.... how random. He was equal BOG with Hill, Mitchell, Pendlebury and DeGoey in the 2023 grand final in my opinion. I'm not sure what he was in the voting. I'm guessing 3rd. But your argument isn't valid in my eyes. Not top 2? Why just top 2? Why cut it off there.

Yep I completely agree with this. Ideally Harrison, McInnes and West were the three I would’ve liked to get games into but two ACLs and a foot injury killed that idea.

Last season we established Long, Parker and Roan Steele could solidify themselves in our best 23 though we need to see more from Allan, DeMattia, Ryan and Jiath otherwise it will make our retirements feel that much worse.

Great that you finally acknowledged Daicos is a soft outside receiver.
Yeah a bloke who since moving into the midfield has avg more than 10 contested possessions and almost 7 clearances per game and has duly been awarded the most Brownlow votes of any player during that period.

But good old no research bzparkes is again making themselves look stupid.

You're quite brilliant bzparkes.

The Daicos boys will want more as well.

Well of course he gets clearances when he's 1m away from the person winning the ball waiting for the handball receive.

Do you not understand how clearances work?

Good on him for being ranked 26th for contested possessions I suppose. One day he may rank alongside contested beasts such as Brodie Grundy, Jye Caldwell and Jacob Hopper.

Happy for him that he managed to average the same clearances as retiree Matt Crouch though.

You're quite brilliant bzparkes.

Something we can all finally agree on :thumbsu:
