Since 2007 Richmond, Geelong and Hawthorn have won all premierships except 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2018

Lol. Thats unbelievable!

Extend that further and of the last 20 flags, only 2004, 2010, 2016 have been won by teams other than Richmond, Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney, West Coast, or Brisbane. 17/20 won by one third of the competition.

Only Malcolm Blight, John Platten and Nathan Buckley have won both the Brownlow and the Magarey Medal.

As an aside, Buckley is the only player to have won both the Brownlow and the Magarey as well as both the Norm Smith and Jack Oatey Medals as well for best on ground in both GF’s.

As it’s a bit of fun, the longest duration from first siren to final siren is 3 days.

Essendon vs St Kilda 1996 - the night the lights went out at Waverley, the game was finished on the Tuesday night.

Separately, if the crowd hadn’t interceded, I’m assuming we’d still have a Freo Saints game going in Launceston ;)

In a very even 1997 season all of the 16 teams spent at least one week in the Top 8, but the last team to enter the 8 was minor premier St Kilda after Round 8. The Saints were on the bottom of the ladder after Round 4, and still second last after Round 6.

Only 2 Matthew Lloyd's have played VFL/AFL.

Matthew Lloyd (Sydney) wore #18 in every game he played (1987-1991).

Matthew Lloyd (Essendon) wore #18 in every game he played (1995-2009).

Essendon Lloyd's father John played 29 games at Carlton in the 1960s, wearing #18. He later captain-coached FDL club Braybrook (the Bombers, wearing red and black) to successive flags in 1973-74-75, while a young Doug Hawkins was winning BnFs in Braybrook under-age teams.

Doug Hawkins last senior AFL season was 1995 (his only season at Fitzroy) - also Essendon's Matthew Lloyd's first senior season. Fitzroy played Essendon twice in 1995, but while Hawkins played in both games, Llloyd played in neither. (Llloyd played his first 2 games in rounds 14 and 15, but was omitted for round 16 - against Fitzroy). Matthew Llloyd (Ess) played 18 games in his last season, Doug Hawkins played 18 games in his first season. Doug Hawkins is at least 18 times more popular with general footy fans than Matthew Llloyd.

How the hell do you kick 19.6 in one half and 2.2 in the other?

Not quite as bad, but round 1, 1991, Footscray led Pies at half time at Waverley by 25 points (60-35). Second half we kicked 2.4 to Pies 17.9, to lose by 70 - a 95-point turnaround in half a game. Last quarter was Pies 10-5 to Dogs 0-2. Avg age and avg games fairly even, Pies more finals experience at that stage.

Every premiership coach since 1966 belongs to a Jeans, Hafey, Barassi, Kennedy coaching lineage. They were
  • Jeans, Hafey, Barassi or Kennedy themselves
  • Someone who was coached by one of them
  • Or someone who was coached by someone who was coached by them
Only 2 Grand Finals from 1965-1989 didn't involve one of them (1982 and 1988)
1982 GF was between Richmond (coached by Francis Bourke who was coached by Hafey) and Carlton (coached by Parkin who was coached by Kennedy).
And the 1988 GF was between Melbourne (coached by John Northey who was coached by Hafey) and Hawthorn (coached by Alan Joyce who was coached by Kennedy).

Cool thread that deserves a bump.

Was thinking Fagan broke this streak… but no. He was coached by Paul Sproule at Hobart, who was coached by Hafey at Richmond.

Have GWS played at more grounds than Scott Pendlebury still?

Upon research, Harvey Thomas from GWS after 23 games will have played at more venues(12) than Scott Pendlebury after 400+ (11)

Every VFL/AFL season since 1968 has featured a player coached by Kevin Sheedy.

A few retirements last year… those remaining are Zac Williams (31yo), Lachie Whitfield (31yo), Aidan Corr (31yo), Stephen Coniglio (32yo), Toby Greene (32yo), Taylor Adams (32yo), Jeremy Cameron (32yo) and Adam Treloar (32yo).

The only 2023 premiership players left at Collingwood are Pendlebury and Sidebottom. They’re also the only two who also played in the 2010 premiership.
Nah, there’s heaps

I get it, Pendlebury and Sidebottom are the only players from that 2010 premiership team that are still at Collingwood, and that played in the 2023 Grand Final victory, I would agree with that.
