What I really liked about that Ed goal is the finish. Expected the usual moon-ball kick from him, but he actually kicked it low and hard like a proper footballer.
His Kicking to Forwards was poor today

I was really pleased with Cochran's game today, he even moved sideways onto his none preferred foot and hit a 40 m pass, nice! He also likes getting into good positions one on one.....He just needs to clean up his marking a little, dropping marks like Nathan Murphy used too. Joel is a keeper!

Worry was Houston as like last year barley seem to touch the Ball and have no big impact
For some reason he looked disinterested. I'm not sure if there's still some lingering hip issues, or he's unhappy with his role in the team.
His teammates can't give him the ball if he's not working to create an option. He just gave me CBF vibes.
If he has another frustrating season like he did in 2025, l wonder what approach he takes and the club takes at end of season....🤔

Great news
Sounds like the club is also hoping he can play on talls or smalls as need be

I do get it. I think we all want to see what he can bring and impact in some way. Don’t quite know his position either, but this is the year where he must give us something
Time? For what? Clog list space? Honestly, I would love to know what recruiters saw in this guy. You've surely got to have 1 of either elite athletic traits (don't see any) or elite level decision making/skill execution (don't see any). So why would we want to draft him?

I liked this one moment where he ran great distance to half a contest from an incoming ball.

COLLINGWOOD

Result:
35-point loss to GWS Collingwood (75-110)

Match report:Collingwood vs. GWS Giants match simulation

What we learned: Craig McRae and company might be ready to experiment with younger options through the midfield. Though there were some key names missing from that Magpies engine room including Nick Daicos and Ned Long. Mature-aged draftee Angus Anderson looked comfortable playing against senior bodies, with his intensity around the contest really standing out. Ed Allangot plenty of midfield minutes too and he showed some impressive signs. Beau McCreery also got some run on the ball in a role he could get more opportunities in this upcoming season. McCreery and Dan McStay, who’ve both battled injury over the pre-season, got through the game unscathed in a good result after Collingwood has been marred by various setbacks across the summer. But they might be stretched in defence with some key peroneal in doubt for Opening Round. Kieren Briggs (four goals), Nick Madden (three) and Jake Riccardi (two) combined for nine majors to get hold of an undermanned and undersized Collingwood defence.“I just wonder with the injuries to Darcy Moore and Jeremy Howe, there’s been a lot of contested marks taken by the Giants, how big those losses will be early in the season. That is a concern if you’re getting beaten in the air consistently,” premiership Magpie Tom Mitchell said on Kayo Sports commentary. It could open the door for Joel Cochran to make his AFL debut, with the 2024 mid-season draftee showing good signs in defence. At the other end of the ground, there’s been plenty of talk around whether recruit Jack Buller or Charlie West can help fill the forward void left by Brody Mihocek, but both players were quiet and held goalless against GWS

✔️ Excellent initiative. First half a few blokes thought he was spectating a tad. With more game time, and confidence, he will naturally progress to ‘see ball, get ball’ (rather than “where’s Darc, Howie”.)

Beau's kicking was never bad but possibly lacking a little consistency, his kicking is really very good now, some wonderful pin point kicking today. Real X factor for CFC.
Beau has always had the capacity to kick really well but sometimes is not composed and rushes. Remember the Grand Final. He could have had 3 goals and ended up with none. He can kick over a long distance and drill them fron angles. A bit like Allan, he needs to slow down at times and assess. And maybe the blokes around these players need to assist them with this.

I haven’t followed a lot over the preseason.

But today’s game… beyond rustiness, just highlights that the squad is a little threadbare in under 23 talent.

Certainly excuses for first and 2nd year players.. but players longer than that really need to be showing a lot and pushing hard for selection

I’m sure some of them will come on… but outside of Allan, none of them are top 20 picks.

Short of bringing in an immense under 26 talent like Ben king, butters… pies need to hang onto its first round picks (and preferably keep 2nd round picks) for the foreseeable future… because there is a danger in bottoming out with the loss of several 30+ senior players in the next 18 months

What was he going to say? You don’t publicly can your young players, no matter how underwhelming they are.

The draft is pretty compromised with academy and father son selections so no not sure I rate first and second round picks that highly - unless there is a specific player we are after.

I am warming to the mature age players like Steele/Noble/Anderson and then going for free agents - McStay, Perryman, Houston.

Don't mention the cliff! This would have got you shouted down 12 months ago! 😂

Take a valium Swoop. Neither West nor Buller scored. Our defence was outclassed in the air.

Our younger players were okay. There were some good signs from:

Roan Steele
Allen (apart from his disposal)
Anderson (whose place will be taken by Long).
Cochrane (who will be ready by next year).

But without jumping the gun, it was a B performance. Nothing to get excited about. Nothing to be depressed about. We're a mid-table side. We are missing A-grade talent under 25.
